We booked a trip for December 5-12, and a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant....due December 5! :scared1: We changed our reservation and will now be going in mid-February, when the baby is 8 weeks old. I also have a DD who will be 5.

I'm bringing our Mac umbrella stroller (full-recline), but I'd like to wear the baby most of the time. Right now all I have is a Bjorn and a ring sling. Does anyone have suggestions for a different wrap/carrier that would be good for a newborn at Disney World? Preferably one that's easy to nurse in? I find the Bjorn to be a PITA to put on, esp. with a floppy-headed newborn. I was thinking of an Ergo, but I'm wondering if those are equally as complicated.

Thanks in advance! princess:

for a baby that age my favorite is a simple pouch sling like a hotsling or a peanut shell. An ergo for a baby that small is overkill IMO. If you have a ring sling and are good with that, I would use that. The other option would be a wrap like a Moby or a sleepy baby wrap but I find those too complicated myself.

I'm nursing my five week old in a sleepy wrap right now. We've been using it since we got home from the hospital and love it. I also plan to use it on our Disney trip next month.

I have more slings then I can remember right now. For that age I 2nd the basics of a pouch type like the Hotsling, I think Florida is too hot for a Moby even though I love mine here in the Northeast Winters its not a warm weather sling and to tie and untie 12ft of fabric gets annoying imo. You can find great deals on slings at diaperswappers.com, if you don't mind 2nd hand or mama made items :) Have fun! :thumbsup2

Hey October babies r us- I was in your town yesterday for dd orthodontist appt. We drive an hour and a half to get there every month but we get a HUGE discount from a family friend for braces-great doctor. Small world. Go Bears?!;)

Tinky-Tink, I have a three month old and will be going down in October. Which sling do you think would be easiest and best? I have a bjorn and do not love it. I have a 2 year old and would like to carry the baby as much as possible. Thanks :)

if it happens to be cold enough my favorite sling was the kangaroo korner adjustable fleece pouch and they make many other types now.

My fave for nursing a newborn was a simple mama made pouch sling. Like PP said, diaperswappers.com is an awesome place to get one. Light colored and cotton are the way to go. Or a solar veil hotsling is another great option. I'll be taking my pouch sling and mei tai for our 3yo in a few weeks. It's awesome when they fall asleep and you're riding on the bus. No taking her out of the stroller!

I used a Moby-style wrap that I got off of etsy. I love it, and still use it with DD at 18 months, only in different holds. It's really nice since she prefers to be carried.

My little one loves the Moby (and doesn't really like anything else). I know there is a nursing position too, although I never tried it. It can be hot with all that fabric, but I would think you would be okay in December.

We are heading to WDW in October and will be traveling with an 8 week old. She's 3 weeks now- and I have been using 3 different carriers to see what works for us!

I love my Maya wrap. It's light and gauzy so might be cooler in the FL heat. It's a ring sling- but if you go to the website and watch the quick video- it's SUPER easy to use. After a few tries it only takes me about 30 seconds to get it on and then a few more seconds to get her adjusted inside.

I also have an Ergo carrier- and I did purchase the infant insert- makes it so much better for a little baby. It's very light and comfy. I like this one because it keeps her face and upper body a bit more exposed so she doesn't overheat. But might be a problem if it's sunny.
I think the Ergo will be more useful when the baby is bigger.

My favorite sling is a pouch style made by Petunia Pickle Bottom. It is the Sojourn model that I have- knit fabric has a nice stretch. It comes in sizes based on your body size so there are no annoying straps or rings to fiddle with. I love it!

I am actually planning on bringing all 3! I find that after several hours in one- it feels better on my back to switch to a different style.

Dump the bjorn! Just get rid of it.

I want to say "hotsling" but ultimately mine was the wrong size and it never worked well. Had a mammasmilk pouch sling which was great, but I bought it (through a co-op on mothering's forums) just at the end of the days where a hip carry worked for us. Moby was great, but for me it WAS complicated, and HOT. DS and I were sweat-monsters in those days and it was just unpleasant. Had a couple nice big swaths of fabric that I tied Moby-style (mamatoto.org had instructions) for various Seattle festivals...that was nice but unwieldy. Great pix of me at the festival with the same name as my username though!

Got an Ergo, never looked back. If we get to have another baby, I'm using it (or buying another if I decide to sell mine in the meantime) with an infant insert. I could carry a 2 year old with long dangly legs, on my front, facing me, comfortably in it (b/c it's ergonomic you can't carry the baby facing away from you in a front carry...that method is bad for your back and bad for the baby's pelvic development, and they can't get "away" from the stimuli of everything going on in front of them). I'm sure carrying a newbie will be most pleasant. :goodvibes

I miss my sling time with my little guy. He is just too big now and doesn't like to cuddle he is almost 2 and over 30lbs LOL.

For that stage I loved my hotsliing and peanutshell when he got bigger I loved my Ring Slings. While I liked the Moby I was way to hot in it

aww my 2yr old still goes in a carrier often lol he loves them, hes 30lbs to so i cant wear him too long or i hurt...i was going to suggest the ring sling....baby can go upright against your chest, lay down, football carrier.....it will be the most versatile for you and you can use the tail to cover baby while you are nursing if you want.
At that age i would recommend an ergo or anycarrier with buckles.
A mei tai might work as well if you dont want the ringsling, my fav at that age is the catbird baby mei tai.
You can check out thebabywearer.com they have great suggestions over there, beware tho you will get hooked lol!

I was there in mid-Feb last year and used my Moby (with an older baby). It wasn't too hot at all.

Personally, while I love my ring sling I don't think I could go all day with it. I'd prefer a Moby or Ergo where I could carry the baby on my front. I think it'd be more comfortable (I imagine sore shoulders from some of the others).

Good luck!

I had a preemie, 3 lbs, and the Dr recommended the Cuddly Wrap (I think it is the same as the Moby, but I am in Canada?) for warmth, and comfort. She LOVED it, I LOVED it...miss her being that close to me! It was not hard to use, and I could take it off and put on my coat etc and it was like wearing a wrap sweater. It is cotton, so it very cool, and soft.

Congrats on the pregnancy, and good luck with everything!

We're Moby lovers here!! :worship:Great for nursing, and they evenly distribute the weight over your hips and shoulders. You will get really quick with the tie, and then you can probably just keep it tied on you all day, even with taking the baby in and out (unless it gets too loose or something). One tie fits a variety of positions, though you'll still probably be cradling or inward facing.

The PP's have given some great suggestions. I didn't read them all, so someone may have mentioned New Native. Here's their site: http://www.newnativeinc.com/ They also sell infant support pillows that you can prop them up on inside the sling.

Our favorite was our Moby Wrap (there is a learning curve, but once you got it, it is wonderful!) followed by our hotsling (pouch--better for my back b/c the weight was evenly distributed across my shoulder.)
