Favorite Resort for Christmas & Why?

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for Christmas last year. We were there from 12/19 through 12/27. The parks were relatively quiet from the 19th up until the 24th. It got busy on the 24th but the 25th was dead - because the weather was the worst I've ever seen at WDW. But the 26th and 27th were packed. And I understand it was very busy there though New Year's Day. WL was the best. The decor, the entertainment, etc. just exuded Christmas. We loved it and will definitely stay there again over Christmas.

I have heard that Disney leaves goodies from Santa for Christmas morning, can you tell me if you experienced this last year?

This turned out to be an interesting thread. The part about your child being out of school. How about taking your vacation the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. That way he/she would only be out for 5 days of school. Where we live, there is such a thing called independent study. If your child is out 5 days or more you can go to school and request this. Then over the rest of vacation your 6 year old can make up the work. Which can't be too much I would imagine. The school will still get their money. That is what they are most concerned about! I know. We've done it many times. Even when I had them pulled out for 3 days I thought it was worth it. They did get an unexcused absense, but who really cares?? Really! They still made up their work, which the teachers liked, but the school didn't get paid for those days. My children were good students and are now wonderful adults. The times they will remember more are the times you went out on a limb and took them out of school. My kids thought they were pretty special! Now to the real question. If we had the means I would have picked the WL from pictures that I saw and watching the Travel Channel, but we would have had to get 3 rooms and it was just too much. No discounts on anything on the dates we are going Dec. 20-25. Have a great time and talk to your school. I bet they'll work with you. PS If there are any superintendents out there. Sorry!!! But they are MY children.

I took everyone's advice, and tried to book WL. I was too late. They were booked. So, I saw that a few recommended the BWI, so I'm going to try that next. Our dates our Dec 17th thru Jan 2. I hope to run into some of you down there.

Great thread, I am dying to know more about Christmas at the resorts!

If we missed more than 5 days in middle or high school we had to make up every day we missed in "saturday school". If you miss more than 15 days for any reason parents have to go to a school board hearing and have excessive documentation (mostly medical) as to why you were not there or they can be fined and also have criminal action taken against them. The elementary schools also do it, but it wasn't around when I was in elementary. This still goes on, I graduated in 99, and I think it may even be more strict now. This is public school, not private,in TN.

I've never been to CSR at x-mas but if you visit my website below, you can see many photos of the resort.

Buzz: You've got to go for Christmas. CSR is decorated just as well as the WL, AKL and GF. It's incredible -- and the decorations are spread throughout the resort not just in the lobby. We had the best time there Christmas Eve two years ago. Santa was there and Minnie and Mickey and my daughter. She had them all to herself for about an hour before others realized they were there. Everyone else had gone to the Deluxe resorts to see Santa because they didn't advertise that he would be at CSR. And there he was. What a treat. But really -- go Buzz.

Several years ago, my dh and I spent 3-4 days in early December at the Dolphin and it was beautiful. A pianist played carols every evening in the lobby and there was a huge trees with huge toys in the lobby and a train that kids could ride on. We rode the bus and monorail around to most of the other resorts and Dolphin decorations were some of the top in my opinion (of course the GF was spectacular and nothing can compare to the smell of Christmas sitting next to the fireplace at the WF) Plus at the Dolphin you could walk around the Boardwalk area and enjoy all the twinkle lights. If they would only offer a good government rate this year!! :wave2:
