Favorite Place to Stay on-site

Another vote for POFQ. Seeing any trends? ;)

We've stayed deluxe only once- the Poly - and honestly we all preferred POFQ. So that's our home resort now.

Sadly, $150 is not a "last hurrah" budget at Disney - it's a moderate, at best, budget. You should subscribe to Mousesavers.com, a monthly newsletter that compiles the most recent coupon codes and deals offered by Disney. Also keep an eye on these boards- when a new promotion hits, it lights a fire under everyone here! Also, if you have AAA, you can get a discount on room-only reservations and also tickets. You can also book a complete package through AAA if you are interested in getting the dining plan.

If you do book POFQ, ask for a refurbished room. I'm not sure when the re-do's are supposed to be finished, but you may as well get a new room, right? The beds are queen as opposed to full-sized in the older rooms.

Also, I recommend picking up a good guide book so you can read about all the attractions ahead of time. This way you can pick out the cream of the crop and not waste time with less-appealing rides or shows. I recommend the Unofficial Guide (if you have intestinal fortitude- the new book offers 504 pages of info BEFORE you step foot into the first park) but other folks here love PassPorters. I've also used Birnbaum's, which is not so detailed but gives a good overview.

Mine, before moving down here, was definitely the Contemporary. I know that over the years before we moved here, Judy and I had over 100 nights there, all in the tower on the Park view side.

Our record was between the beginning of September 1999 and the middle of September 2000, when we spent 41 nights there on four trips.

We got to know quite a few of the people who worked there. One time we had AP rate reservations for one of the wing rooms and ended up in the tower; another time with a tower reservation we ended up on the 14th floor for a week. And, even without a reservation, we would get very prompt seating at the Concourse Steak House.

I have primarily stayed at the Epcot resorts (Beach Club, Yacht Club, about to stay at Boardwalk) which will be above what you want to spend.

I've done 5 day, 6 day and 7 day trips -- two of those were adult only. I think the ideal first trip is 5 full days plus 2 travel days. So if you can squeeze out one or two more days to account for travel, I think you will be very happy that you did so.

Regarding the comfy bed, while I'm sure the beds at all the resorts are comfy, comfy to me would mean bigger than a double. I have read that only some of the Moderate hotels have queen sized beds (as opposed to doubles). I think POFQ is one that has queen sized beds - someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have 2 favorite places to stay.

Port of Orleans-- Riverside--it is so peaceful and very very pretty there
Shades of Green-- very very pretty landscapes and gigantic rooms!

POR is my favorite resort, except for when the cheerleaders are there. Please be sure to check this out as the first week of February they are usually there. POR is sometimes used as an overflow resort for them. I don't know about POFQ.

We have stayed at WL and we love it. Wanted to stay there this June but decided to stay at BWV because we haven't stayed at any on the resorts in the Epcot area and wanted to give that a fair try. We like WL because it was beautiful and we liked the boat ride to MK. Yes, you have to catch the bus to the other parks, but you have to take the bus from any resort to one park or another the entire time you are there. Staying on the monorail is nice but you pay extra for that perk. We have not stayed at AK, but the reason is you have to take the bus everywhere and according to these boards it is away from everything. Not sure how close it is to AK but you still have to take the bus. At the Epcot resorts you can walk or take the boat to DHS and Epcot, plus you have the boardwalk area, with some games and restaurants and shops, that is why we wanted to give it a try. We have driven and flown, but either way, we always use disney transportation, never get in the car the whole time we are there, we just take whats handy. We stayed at OKW once and you can take the boat to DTD, but the buses were horrible while we were there, awful waits, but prob not always the case. Again, we like WL, close to MK, our favorite, and its not as $ as the other MK resorts, GF, Poly or Contemporary. We rent poinst from a vacation club mem, price is so much better that way and you have a few extras in the room. It is nice and quite in the villas and if you want company, u don't have to go far to find it.

Another vote for POFQ. The price is great and so is the atmosphere. It really is my favorite resort so far.
