Favorite Ornament

Mine is a gold shaped metal heart with a cutout in the middle. Hanging in that cutout is a heart shaped picture frame with my grandparents picture in it. My grandfather had engraved the word "love" on it. They have both passed away and every year it gets put at the very top, right in the front of my tree.

We have a monorail ornament that lights up and talks in the monorail announcer voice wishing us a Happy Holidays. A reminder of a sunny vacation is always welcome in a Michigan winter!

maslex's ornament sounds lovely! What a nice tribute to your grandparents.

I don't really have a favorite, but boy my husband does.

He LOVES the Hallmark Muppet's ornament of the old men from a couple of years ago. I bought it in Oct of the year it came out, and he played with it so much before the tree was even out--so as a safety measure I bought a second to have if it broke. Well I find out later that he too bought an extra. So our tree has one, and two in reserve. He has replaced the batteries in the one on the tree a couple of times.

Every time he walks near the tree, I can hear the old guys talking.

Before that ornament, he could have cared less about the Christmas tree, now he would put it up in Oct if I would let him.

A Tigers "Bless You Boys" button framed by orange and blue beads from a craft show the year the Tigers last won the World Series. I was 5 and got to go to one of the WS games with my grandfather, and the ornament always makes me think of those years when he had season tickets and it felt like we spent half the summer at Tiger Stadium.

The 1980 Frosty Friends ornament. Not only has it increased 100 times in value, it was my son's first Christmas.

We buy an ornament every year that somehow represents a big moment from that year for our family. The one that is the most special to me is an mirrored angel. "When a child is born, an angel sings. 2006" Our son Ethan was stillborn that year.

I have sooo many I can't even begin to pick just one...
My all time favorites are the handmade ornaments my mom made in the late 1950's and 1960's. The are intricate and beautifully done with all small sequins and beads. I have one that is red, white and blue with an eagle on it that she made after President Kennedy was assassinated.
My mom just passed away a few weeks ago, so putting up the tree with all of her ornaments last week was so hard.

One more that always makes me smile when I unwrap out of storage is a little pink glass pacifier ornament. My DD13 was literally attached to a pacifier for 4 years and I never thought we'd wean her off of it!

Mine is by Hallmark. It is a woodland critter scene. I got it in 1983. I would lay on the floor and look into it all the time. Now my kids get to enjoy it. When Christmas is over it is packed in its own box and put in the hall closet.

DH grandparents came from Germany. they didnt take much with thme but they did bring some ornaments that they used from their first tree in Germany. They are just whole walnuts painted silver. There were 5 but now only 3. I/we have one, DMIL has one and Dh's DS has the other. We hang it right near the beaded ornaments we made for our first tree.

That's like asking someone to pick their favorite kid! Each one has some sort of special meaning (mostly good, but a few have some ironic meanings). It's a very symbolic tree!

I have to say that I love all the ornaments my kids make for the tree but my favorite is one I have had since I was a child. Its a white porcelain deer with a wreath around its neck. I don't know why its my favorite, it just is.
