I'm cruising for the first time in October. I am actually booking tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out what excursion we are going to do in Nassau. I'm thinking I might want to see the dolphins. Or is there enough to do in walking distance to occupy the day? So I need opinions Disers. What do you love there??

And of course we need time to shop!.....

Thanks!

Ouch, we are going on our first Disney cruise in May and most people on this board say the same thing.

Maybe DCL could skip Nassau and make it a day at sea.

We are planning to go to Atlantis for a couple hours at the casino. It is only a $4.00 pp taxi ride each way.

I'm thinking about the Crystal Palace. I read online, the Crystal Palace is nice -not as fancy as Atlantis but has lower table limits.

We are going on the 2/21 Wonder. We were originally planning on staying on the ship, but after checking out the Nassau forum on cruise critic, we're planning on getting day passes at the Wyndham Hotel on Cable Beach.

Apparently, the cost is $15 per person and includes use of their beach, the pool, towels, beach chairs, and floats in the pool. According to others who have done it, the passes can be used simultaneously at the Sheraton right next door. (The sheraton apparently has a waterslide)

Not sure what the cost of taxi is, but from what I understand, it's just a 10 minute ride.

We're going to give it a try. I can report back once we return.

YES............please let us know about the Wyndham when you return! I did this in 2005 and it was FREE. But with many cruisers coming their way........they probably have started charging people for using their facilities.

Thank you for the tip about the Crystal Palace. How far away is it from port?

I don't remember specifically. I was reading a post someone wrote on Traveladvisor or a similar website. I remember the writer saying how it was a little farther than Atlantis. I don't know what that means. The writer took a cab and I think the fare was 10.00. :confused3 I'm looking into taking a jitney, though. From what I've been reading it's convenient and cheap. Dh and I have saved a lot of money and had some real adventures taking public transportation on our travels.

We did the Nassau City Tour through DCL. The cost was just $23 per person and it was a great way to see the city. I'd been there twice before but this was the first time I actually enjoyed it! We were back at the dock by 12:15 so you'd still have plenty of time to hit the casinos or do some shopping.

I plan to stay on board.

I read this so much about Nassau.

I was going to do the dolphins as it's always been a dream of mine. However with 6 of us I'm ouching over the price.

My family went to Nassau back in 91 with The Big Red Boat and it was a dirty place...almost scary, but I am sure times have changed, hopefully for the better.

We are going to do the dolphins...and you are right the $380 is killer for two adults and two kids...and then we are thinking about taking the girls back to the boat and they can go to the kids club while DH and I walk to Hard Rock Cafe.

We are two adults in our twenties and live in downtown Seattle and consider ourselves pretty street-savvy - and we even thought Nassau was kinda scary.

While we were walking in the touristy area, some guy came running out of the bank with a shotgun and told us to stay still. We thought it was a robbery! :scared1: Turns out, he was transferring the money to an armored car. Seriously, though, I don't think that warrants waving a gun at us.

If I had kids, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking them off the boat in Nassau (except maybe to go to the Atlantis pool facilities).

I want to know more about booking the Comfort Suites in Nassau for the day! I know it is next door to Atlantis and it includes access to the Atlantis waterslides & beach etc. I checked online & the "internet rate" when we go in July is $215. But it says check-in is at 3:00. How do you get your wristbands EARLY if you can't check in until the afternoon?!:confused3 But that's a lot cheaper than $155 pp!!

I felt totally safe and enjoyed a whole day of walking around Nassau. It was myself (33yr old mom) alone with with my 4 yr.old son. I think we walked almost every street in Nassau just sight seeing. Never felt unsafe!

I totally agree! Been to Nassau several times, always had fun, excursion or on our own, it's a great place to visit! I'm always sorry to see Nassau getting a bad rap! :sad2:
