Favorite memory of closed restaurants

Don’t laugh but I miss the simple things at the QS restaurants at resorts:
  • The fish n chips in real bucket from CBR (we took the bucket to the beach)
  • the make your own pasta from POR & AoA
why did these have to go??

So, back when the Crystal Palace was closed for refub in the late 2000s, the character meal was at Liberty Tree Tavern - AND IT WAS FANTASTIC! I wish they would bring a character meal option back to Liberty Tree Tavern. (Both restaurants are still sort of open, but this was a blip I wish was a forever thing.)

I filled the bucket with soda, so maybe that answers your question. 😄

Not so much the restaurant closed but BOG QS lunch was my must do. French onion soup, split a French dip sandwich, and a strawberry cheesecake cupcake. Ugh so good.

We have eaten multiple times every trip at WPE & will miss it once we do get back .Loved the pizzas, meatloaf ( both sandwich & entree ) & the pasta dishes. The half chicken was pretty good too.
We had a couple of outstanding dinners at Capt. Jack's our first 2 trips. The views were lovely.
On our honeymoon in 1998 we had breakfast & dinner at Bonfamille's. Both meals were great.

Although still there, I wish Chef's de France & LeCellier still had lunch menus.

I feel the same way about the Create your own Yogurt parfait at POFQ.

I had the best prime rib I have ever had a The Steerman's Quarters on the Empress Lilly. Also not gone entirely but loved the Character Ice Cream Social at Garden Grill. It was great, and a bargain.

For my wife and I it"s the Concourse Steak House at the Contemporary hotel. We ate there on our honeymoon thirty years ago. We liked the bucket of bread they served. It was a loaf of four different types of bread, in quarters baked in a bucket.
I still have the original receipt from that dinner.

There was also the top of the world dinner show that is now the California grill. We also ate there on our honeymoon.

My only experience with the Concourse Steakhouse was not good. It was a multi-family trip when I was a kid and they seated the adults at one table and the kids at another, then they treated the kids table like crap the whole time. I think my sister still holds a grudge and they aren't even open anymore.

The Portobello Yacht Club at Pleasure Island/Downtown Disney was always a must do for us.

I, too, really liked and miss Crystal Palace when it was a buffeteria. I still like and eat at Crystal Palace, but I liked it better as a buffeteria. It was not crowded, nor so loud. A mariachi band played there too, while we were there several times. I don't think it was the Mariachi Cobre that play at Mexico pavilion. I also liked CRT when it was King Stefan's Banquet Hall, and you could walk up and get in. (Though you could with most restaurants in 1995 through early 2000's, before the internet told everyone they had to get ADR 6 months ahead.) I liked the Catwalk Bar, and loved the Soundstage Restaurant---all the set pieces decorating it. It was so cool. A favorite memory is breakfast at Tony's Town Tavern. Sitting out on the patio having Si and Iam waffles and enjoying Main Street wakening, the balloon salesman coming out, the horse-drawn vehicle, etc. And families arriving and strolling, not running, to the Main Street music loop.
Obviously, it is a wonderful memory.

The McDonald’s in Downtown Disney.

To be fair, I was 8, so McD’s was amazing to me. I got a little Cri-Kee chirping toy, which I still have.

Bonfamilles. When I was little and we stayed at POFQ we had breakfast there every morning with beignets and strawberries and cream.

Same here. Loved Bonfamilies!

This is going way back. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Top of World at the Contemporary Resort. There was a very nice selection of food items and you had a great view of the Magic Kingdom which you would be visiting later in the day.

Also enjoyed the Grand Canyon Terrace at the Contemporary. You could view the monorails entering the tower building and they had a strolling Mariachi Band in the evenings. I was so much younger then (with no gray hair and a smaller waistline)!

The Empress Lilly - We ate at the character breakfast on the Empress Lilly in Downtown Disney in the early 90's. I have a lot of snapshots from that experience and the kids loved it. It was decked out with red velvet seats and fancy curtains. So different from now.

Melvin the Moose - We tried out the Melvin the Moose character breakfast at Fort Wilderness. We weren't sure about it going in but we ended up loving it. This was in the 80's!

Tony's Town Square - Breakfast! I remember the decor was so nice and I had fresh squeezed orange juice and strawberries with cream. It seemed very fancy to me. This was early 90's.

Le Cellier - Way back when, Le Cellier in the Canada Pavilion at Epcot was cafeteria style. You just picked out what you wanted and put it on a tray and paid for it at the end of the line and then sat wherever you wanted. We loved the atmosphere in there. Of course then it became table service, and then a signature restaurant. We still like it but it used to be so inexpensive and easy to get in!

In the early 90's Disney World was trying out a dining plan called Food and Fun. You got 3 table service meals per day (or counter service) including drink, appetizer, main entrée, and dessert, including tax and tip. Then you could also do activities such as golf or rent a boat. After our trip Disney called and asked us for our feedback. We said it was too much food! And we didn't have time to rent a boat or golf since we went to the parks every day, but we did rent a surrey bike. It was a really good deal at the time for what you received!
