What special memories do you have of your grandparents on Christmas day?

--My grandfather would hang silver dollars on a white Christmas tree for all the grandchildren.

--My grandfather would stock the spare refrigerator with pop and those tasty cheese triangles wrapped in colorful foil.

--My grandfather would also go to the local bakery and stock up on dozens of the best tasting Christmas cookies.

--Sitting at the kids table with all the grandkids.

--My grandmother would cook deer or rabbit and tell us that it was roastbeef so we would not get upset about eating Bambi or Thumper.

--Passing out the gifts to all the parents.

--Running around the house like maniacs

--My grandfather saying the table blessing before the meal. He was a Methodist Minister and always had something inspiring to say.

--Grandmother wearing a Christmas apron and a dress with her hair all done up.

What wonderful grandparents you had.

The Swedish food and decorations:D And waiting endlessly for the adults to have their coffee before we opened gifts on Christmas Eve:D

Christmas did not officially begin until I saw my grandparents 52 Plymouth coming up the hill. I would get so excited. Then one time after they stopped they got a red Radio Flyer wagon out of their trunk! I was so happy! My dad still has that 52 Plymouth. My grandpa bought it brand new. I enjoyed many a ride in it!!!:)

One grandmother always spent every C'mas Eve (Dad's b'day) & C'mas Day with us. She saved all the wrapping paper, ribbons & bows. She would re-use boxes from year to year - often having cut the picture off the front of a C'mas card & pasted it on the box. We still use some of those boxes - even though she's been gone 14 yrs.

Even though they had 4 surviving children, my other grandparents always came to our house first on C'mas Day. We'd pile into the car & visit my aunts, uncles & cousins.

We were fortunate to have 3 grandparents well into their 80's. I loved listening to their stories.

One of my favorite memories was after my "single" grandmother had died & the other grandfather, I went to the nursing home & got my surviving grandmother - the one who always handmade gifts because $$ was always short, the one who was a great cook, the one who tended to be gruff (but we knew she loved us!)

I took her to the mall to see the decorations, have lunch & do a little shopping. We had our picture taken with Santa Claus. You'd have to know her to understand how awesome that was & how out of character! The angel tree topper I bought that day no longer lights - but it still sits on the top of our tree.

We spent many of our Christmases over at our grandparents house.....there's so-o-o many great memories!!:D

These make me want to cry. Because of family disagreements I never got to spend the holidays with my grandparents. I wish I would have.

It is great to hear that you all have such great memories!

As an adult I did get to spend one Christmas with my grandmother. My husband and I now have the wrapping paper from the gift we gave her - a mini-chopper. After she passed away when we were going through her things we found the wrapping paper with card attached.

Thanks for this post! You brought back a wonderful memory for me!
