Football season is almost upon us!

We are having a football party at our house in November and I'm trying to figure out what we should have to eat.

For inspiration I would love to hear everyone's favorite football foods!

Tamie

beer, bacon, wings, more beer, more bacon and more wings

Oh and maybe some steaks

Chili, hot sauce on the side, with shredded cheddar ready too. Cornbread for dipping.

And beer.

I usually do wings, beer/soda/water, then grill or get subs. Tortillas chips and salsa for an appitizer. Sometimes, I just orer everything from a restaurnt. I like to watch the games too and I dont want to be up waiting on others.;)

Beer, chips, nachos, pizza, wings, brats, chilli, basically things you can make easily or have delivered. I have been to some where they had burgers, steaks, and lots of things being cooked on a grill. Bad part about those is who ever is doing the cooking will miss a lot of the game. I would shut the grill down about 10 minutes before kickoff or just let everyone cook their own.....

Beer, nachos, chili, Spicy Dorittos dipped in sour cream, and my personal favorite from my under-21 days: cream soda with salt and vinegar chips.

Hail to the Redskins!

how does a roast beef sandwich, sort of a philly steak sandwich thing sound?

It's a large group and I'm trying to avoid really messy foods, ie. chili. I cook chili for football games when it's a small group, but I could be talking 40 people with some kids running around.

I don't want to wish summer away, but gosh I love fall! I can't wait!

I always serve my world famous queso.....

Find some good chorizo (spicy mexican sausage). Take it out of the casing and brown it. Poor the pan (grease and all) into yoru crock pot. Add a can of Rotel. Cube a package of velveta and throw that in. Let it cook a couple hours until all melted. Serve with either potato or tortilla chips.

Are you making the sandwiches or ordering them? I agree with the messy food..especilly with kids.

With that many people you should be sensitive to diets. In addition to all of the yummy foods mentioned, I would be sure to put out pretzels with a low fat dip (PM for recipe) and some cut veggies. I would also make sure that there were some foods for the low carb bunch...like maybe...bacon! Cheese and deviled eggs work well also. And if you are providing beer, have a light variety available. My guess is that the low carb crowd will bring their own Aspen or Ultra.

BTW Tamie--I have to be in Minnesota in November.

4 Frankfurters -
8 Slice Thick-cut bacon Wooden toothpicks
4 Oz Cheddar cheese, cut into 1/2 4 Hot dog rolls

1. Preheat the broiler. Pat the frankfurters dry. In a skillet cook the
bacon for 3 minutes or until still pliable and not crisp.

2. Transfer to paper towels to drain.

3. Cut a 1/2-inch slit lengthwise from end to end of each frankfurter.
Stuff each frankfurter with the cheese.

4. Wrap the entire length of each frankfurter with 2 slices of the bacon
and secure with toothpicks.

5. Place the prepared frankfurters on a rack over a baking pan or on a
broiler pan. Broil the frankfurters until the bacon is crispy, about 2 to 3
minutes. Serve frankfurters

I always make sure I have my 7 layer dip on hand

Layer these:

refried beans
salsa (if its on the watery side, drain a bit)
sour cream
chopped tomatoes
chopped onions
chopped olives
shredded cheese

scoop up and eat with totilla chips.

This is so yummy that sometimes we'll just make a meal out of it! LOL

hmm... maybe I should have some bacon at the party ;)

IMGONNABE40 - Thanks for the tips. Yes, I will keep diet in mind. We know everyone well so I'll sit down and think about who might be on low carb diets. I know I could have one vegetarian if she is able to make it so I'll have to keep that in mind. I always cook low fat as much as I can, ie. using fat free items where I can so I should be ok with the dieting crew. Enjoy Minnesota in Nov., hopefully we'll have decent weather for you!

OCM - I was thinking about making the sandwiches myself. Either getting them already to go and then broiling them at the last moment or making them a little ahead of time and wrapping them in foil to keep warm.

this was my thought -

sandwiches
pasta salad
one other type of dish - potatoe, salad, veggie - maybe something with bacon ;)
veggie tray

then plenty of football snacks -

chips salsa or dip
cookies / brownies
peanuts
maybe a cheesecake or some other type of dessert too

then all the usual beverages

My MIL and Mom will be there so I know they will help me keep food stocked if I'm away from the kitchen for a bit.
