I'm in the market for a new digital camera. I currently own a Sony Cybershot which is OK but I would like something with a more powerful Zoom feature and more megapixels. The Cybershot has 2.1 megapixels and 2x optical zoom, 3 digital zoom, I would like at least 4 or 5 MPs and a more powerful Optical Zoom. Anyone have a light-weight digital camera with these qualities that would care to recommend?

I am bumping you back to page one.

I have a 3.2 megapixel. It is a Nikon Coolpix 3500 and it was great in the parks. It works well for our needs, but I think you want a bigger pixel, right? Our friends who vacationed with us in Florida this summer has a Nikon 4500 and it has 4.0 megapixel. Our other friend had a Canon, but I cannot remember the name of it was, but I remember it being one of the best to buy in April when we were purchasing digital cameras for our trip.

Hope this helps, but I just want to get you back on page one for more replies.

We have a Nikon Coolpix 3100. We love it. I think the pixels are in the 3's. It has great optical zoom. It does 30 second movies too. The pictures are fantastic quality and it does well with fireworks & night photos too.
We are really happy with it.

I have an Olympus C750 and I've really enjoyed it. It is 4m with a 10X zoom so it can take pictures from far away. I was able to take several night shots still working on all the special features but it is pretty easy to use just as a point & shoot.

I have the Olympus C700 with 10x optical zoom. It only has 2.1 pixels but I got a good deal on it and I LOVE having that Zoom lense. I get really nice pictures with it. :)

Thanks for replies everyone! What kind of memory media does the Olympus use?

I have to tell you, I have been in the market for a good digicam for a month now, and I have read TONS of information regarding them. Everyone thinks their camera is the best, so you need to read some nonpartial reviews! I would recommed dpreview.com, and imaging-resource.com for starters. The latter is a really terrific site! And, the 1st one, has great forums for you to read posts by others that have the camera you are interested in.

If I can help you, feel free to let me know!! Good luck in your decision.

We just bought a Sony Cybershot with 5.0 megapixels and LOVE it. We have owned several digital cameras, one Sony DSC, two Fujis and two Kodaks and this camera blows them all out of the water.

Look at the pics in my signature. They were taken with a 2.1 megapixel camera (no longer in production).

It's an Olympus C-2100UZ. It has a 10x OPTICAL zoom (forget how much digital zoom a camera has).

A bigger zoom with less megapixels is usually an advantage over smaller zoom with more megapixels.

Take a look at any of the newer cameras with a 4x or higher zoom.

There's an old saying in photography.

"If you don't like your pictures, you're not close enough"

Or you need a bigger zoom.

The only disadvantage to a larger zoom is the increased chance of blurry picture (especially in lower light without the flash) because of camera shake.
