Favorite Christmas Songs? 2008 edition

-Now that's what I call Christmas- Its a 2 disk set. 1st disk has classics and the 2nd disk has newer artist. You can also download select songs from it on Itunes

-12 Yats of Christmas- Its songs mostly about NOLA, so you have to be from that area to get it...but its def. a classic in my eyes!

-Elf Soundtrack- Lots of good ones on that one

Some of my favorite singles:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas- Judy Garland
All I want for Christmas- Mariah Carey
Baby its cold - Dean Martin and I can't think of the other person

Is River a Joni Mitchell remake??

I love White Christmas, I think that is my all time fav! Let it snow, All I want for Christmas is you.

One that I listen to OVER AND OVER is Christmas Wrapping by Waitresses:rotfl: I don't know why but I just love it. I'm so excited for Christmas music, countdown till Nov 1!!

I love that one too! My oldest daughter heard it on the radio and fell in love with it so we found a CD that has it on there (A Rock and Roll Christmas). I think she has it on her iPod and listens to it year round. :rotfl:

Can't forget the Hannukah Song (Adam Sandler). Not strictly a Christmas song, of course, but I love it.

The version of "Baby it's Cold Outside" that I have and love is Petula Clark and Rod McKuen.

And I messed up last night, it isn't Bing and Dean that I have, it's "A Christmas Sing with Frank and Bing."---Frank Sinatra, not Dean Martin. Oooops.

Silver Bells--any decent jazz version. :thumbsup2

I also love the Charlie Brown Christmas album.

The version of "Baby it's Cold Outside" that I have and love is Petula Clark and Rod McKuen.

My favorite is Barry Manilow and K.T. Oslin.

I like Barry Manilow's last Christmas Album "In the Swing of Christmas".

(I believe I have proven I can answer practically any question with "Barry Manilow!" :) )

OP, sorry to steal the thread, but I am looking for a Muppet's Christmas Album. Last year, DD& I heard it played at a store. it's not the popular John Denver version. It was the Muppets singing Christmas carol with wacky lyrics and really funny (the one we really like was the 12 days of Christmas, along the line of 12 pains of Christmas. I though I could look for it online so I didn't ask about it, but I've since been looking everywhere and can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

TIA

Sue

Anything by the Carpenter's! I really love Vanessa Williams Christimas albums. I grew up listening to them; they're so lovely. Brian Setzer Orchestra also has some really awesome jazzy, big band, Christmas songs. And of course the Nutcracker! :lovestruc

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music but I love Josh Groban's "Believe" from the soundtraack of "The Polar Express".

Children sleeping
snow is softly falling.
Dreams are calling
like bells in the distance.

We were dreamers not so long ago.
But one by one we all had to grow up.

When it seems the magic slipped away,
we find it all again on Christmas day...

Believe in what your heart is saying,
hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
there's so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.

Trains move quickly to their journey's end.
Destinations are where we begin again.
Ships go sailing far across the sea.
Trust in starlight, to get where they need to be.

When it seems that we have lost our way,
we find ourselves again on Christmas day...

Believe in what your heart is saying,
hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
there's so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.

If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
Just believe.
Just believe.

I LOVE that movie so much. I also really like Faith Hill's "Where Are You, Christmas?" from "The Grinch" soundtrack.

Where are you Christmas
Why can't I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can't I hear music play

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh

If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I've found you
You never fade away
The joy of Christmas
Stays here in silence
Fills each and every heart with love

Where are you Christmas
Fills your heart with love

There's a song that Kenny Rodgers sang, and I believe Clay Aiken did a cover called "Mary Did You Know" (I think that's the name). I love that song! There's been other versions, too.

i just remembered one song that i first heard a few years ago, but i have no idea who sings it.

it sounds like a young voice, maybe a girl? the song is about this little orphan girl maria who gives the king a bird that she found with a broken wing. its such a pretty song :cloud9:

any ideas??

That's "The Gift", sung by Aselin Debison. She was only 11 when she recorded it, if I'm not mistaken. I love that song... chokes me up each and every time! :goodvibes

Aww, now I can't wait for Thanksgiving! I won't let myself listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, so I don't get sick of it. The whole drive back to VA from my parents house will be Christmas songs though!

For the longest time, I thought "Mary Did You Know?" was written by a guy at my mom's church.:rotfl: That was the only place I'd ever heard it and I didn't know it was an actual song, performed by anybody other than the man at my mom's church until a couple of years ago when I heard it on the radio.

I love "O Holy Night" the best. It's so pretty that I like pretty much any version of it, with the exception of those singers who throw in so many runs that you can't figure out the melody. As long as it's being sung straight, I love it.
