We are a family of 7 and not big eaters. we usually order things to share for meals at restaurants rather than individual entrees. Mostly because I hate the massive waste of food that occurs when we order 7 entrees. Any suggestions of spots you would recommend for this type of ordering? Could by appies, or sharable entrees? Three of our crew are Disney kids, older two kids are Disney adults. But all typically order kids meals (if we order individual items).

All entrees are technically sharable... you mean larger entrees - like double portion size?

I think Splitsville would be a good choice, they have sushi, pizza, appetizers, burgers, you name it.

Via Napoli, Blaze, Boardwalk Pizza Window, any of the pizza places also would be a good bet since you all can split pizzas.

Yak and Yeti has decent sized potions. I ordered their kale and chicken salad, it is huge, and so is their ahi tuna nachos. Their fried green bean appetizer is a favorite for us to split.

We love to split the bread service at Sanaa and usually an entrée, like the shrimp biryani. That usually is enough for us 2.

Most of the QS meals are portioned for one in my opinion.

You can check for food photos at Trip Advisor, I find it very helpful, especially when portion size is an unknown factor.

I had an app and side dish meal at Nine Dragons recently- an order of cucumber salad and an order of spinach noodles. Yummy and filling!

ETA cucumber salad really translates to cut up pickled cucumbers :)

Thanks, that is helpful! We often order 3-4 appies to share and desserts or something of that nature. Wasn't sure if that was ok and where it would be appropriate to do so. Given our family size, ADRs are tougher. I was thinking of booking a late afternoon ADR for San Angel for drinks and appies would that be ok, or do we need to order full meals? We of course tip well :)

Spice Road has small plates and the outside tables are lovely if the weather is right.

We've also made a lunch out of appetizers at Yak and Yeti

When i think of portions big enough to share, i think of 50's prime for fried chicken (3 huge pieces plus side and veg), and also via napoli (you can share a mezzo metro for example...margarita is $39). Although if thats not enough, you can get mezzo metro plus a large?

Good lord, those spinach noodles are amazing!

There is no mandate to order entrees or multi-course meals (though a dining plan guest has different parameters) just because you have an ADR. We paid OOP for our meals last month- frequently reminded my kids we were paying for everything and that leftovers would go to waste....just order what you truly want. At the non-AYCTE restaurants, we ordered various configurations of apps/entrees/desserts(rare)/beverages. Like it sounds you would be, I try to be a conscientious tipper even when not everyone orders a "full" meal.

thanks so much, that is helpful-I was reading a thread on tripadvisor where someone was advised it was 'taking' an ADR from others to use it for anything other than a full meal, so wanted to be sure I wasn't inadvertently being offensive to the server. In our younger days my dh was a server so he is always a good tipper (unless it is really bad service).

Terminology aside, I can understand frustration at hearing that people use hard-to-get ADRs to order a minimal item just to see the inside of or experience a restaurant....but I think that is different from using an ADR for a meal during which you might prefer an app or two over an entree plus dessert (or whatever).

Feel like noting, we had seven TS meals in parks mid-April and I can say we had great service at every one.

Agreed-we leave on Tuesday and need a table for 7, so definitely not getting any coveted ADRs-getting the leftovers for sure ;) We tend to book off peak times and less popular spots, and last minute. I would agree on service, I can't think of any TS meals where we didn't have good to great service.

We really like Spice Road Table in EP. They have a whole "small plates" menu and we've never had trouble doing a walk-up there.

We also like Nomad Lounge in AK. Great apps menu and great drinks (even "mocktails" with no alcohol)

My apologies, appetizers. I suspect most people were still able to interpret my poor English/regional colloquialism. It is common used term where I live.
I have never called them appies in my life but I don't think it takes much effort to figure out what you meant so no need to apologize.:)

Our favourite "appies" are the sushi at California Grill but I doubt they would hit the mark for your clan. Also they are priced like entrees. :(

I saw apples too. :lmao:

As far as sharing, this is how DH and I dine. We like to order pastas and share as an appetizer. For our trip to WDW we are planning on trying Nomad Lounge as well as the Brown Derby Lounge for small bites. Neither one of us have large appetites and tend to be more grazers.

San Angel Inn! That way you can experience the atmosphere without paying $25-$30 for what would be a $10 entree at your hometown Mexican restaurant. Also I have found the apps there to be filling, delicious, and more adventurous than the entrees anyway. We usually do one app and drink per person, plus salads to share here.
