I've never been to hollywood studios so I need opinions please. I currently have a res at 50's Prime time, I thought it seemed cute but after reading another thread Im not so sure the "antics" are for me.. Dont get me wrong I have a good sense of humor etc. but I dont wanna be made to eat everything off my plate or no desert etc.. So Im thinking I should cxl & pick somewhere else.... Can anyone recommend a rest over there or should I keep the res I have? thanks

As far as I know participation is optional, although I haven't dined there before so I don't know.

We are eating at HS this time (didn't eat at the park last time) and we have chosen 50s PTC and Mama Melrose

There aren't too many TS options really, you have Sci-Fi, Mama's, 50's, Hollywood and Vine or Hollywood Brown Derby.

I reckon Sci-Fi, Mama's and 50's all sound pretty good. H&V is a buffet while Hollywood Brown Derby is an expensive, signature 2TS credit dining option. We had to choose between Sci-Fi or 50s. We chose 50s because the menu looked more interesting and the decor of the Sci-Fi just didn't suit us.

Of course if you can't find somewhere in the park to eat, you could always take a boat or walk up to the Boardwalk. I hear the Cape May Clambake buffet is pretty good, and we have ressies there too!

In my opinion none of the restaurants in HS are very good. They are definitely tolerable but not good quality food.

50s Prime Time and Sci-Fi are both in line with a chain restaurant such as Friendly's or Denny's.

You can ask the waiter at 50s Prime Time to skip the antics if you would like. They are all pretty good at reading the group and usually pick up on the fact that you don't want the play along but to be safe you can tell the waitress/waiter in advance that you would prefer if they skip the jokes/reprimanding.

I leave and go to epcot for lunch then head back to HS . BD is ok but not worth the money and PT cafe isn't that good to me so It's worth he little travel time going back and forth to get luch at a reasonable price :thumbsup2

Sci-Fi! We love the atmosphere, how cold the restaurant always is, and we've always had good service. Plus it's cheap enough for us to pay out of pocket on day trips and not feel like we're splurging, and I think their burgers and fries are delicious. :thumbsup2

I also think Mama Melrose gets a bad rap and is pretty decent, but I'm not much of a fan of Italian food. I'd go back to MM if I were booking a Fantasmic package and enjoy it, but it's never going to be a priority.

I won't touch H&V, and H&BD will never be worth the money to me.

I really liked Prime Time for lunch - DH isn't really into the antics either but luckily our server didn't pull anything at all. It was just a nice, low-key meal for us. We also liked Mama Melrose's for dinner. We used to like Hollywood and Vine but it's changed a lot in the past 5 years or so. I thought Brown Derby was pretty good but DD didn't like it at all. Finally, we all thought Sci Fi was just okay. None of the food there is haute cusine, but we're not at Disney for haute cuisine anyway, we just want something better than counter service and the DHS restos are fine for us! You definately have to make your own opinions though.

They won't actually make you finish your dinner or deny you a dessert. I didn't finish mine because the portion was huge and she still offered me dessert. I declined. My dinner was delish and I ate too much and forgot about dessert! :rotfl: They kind of gauge your reactions to see how far they can push you. Our "Aunt" had one of the girls stand up and sing I'm a Little Tea Pot for her dessert. It was hilarious. But everyone at that table was playing along and having a great time.

Go, have fun. Ask for a low key meal if that is what you want. The first time we went it was just DS and I. He ate his veggies first so our big sister brought him more. She kept bringing them because she thought it was funny that he kept eating them. And hey, they were veggies, not gonna hurt you. She did end up giving him his dessert for free since he ate like three servings of veggies. She was impressed!

Even though it gets a bad rap here sometimes, I've never had a bad meal at Mama Melrose's.

We've always been seated and served promptly. Food alway prepared well and delicious. Pretty decent variety - not all Italian dishes - just maybe an Italian "flair'.

The only "oddity" we ever had here was once, when it was close to closing time, we walked in w/o an ADR and they seated us after about a 15 minute wait. Our server, who was very attentive, suggested ordering our desserts at the same time we ordered our main course, to be certain that we would still be able to get what we wanted. That was very thoughful, and we didn't feel rushed or ignored at all. We still got our desserts after the main course - there was no rushing to clear the plates and dump the desserts on us, LOL.

Eh, HS doesn't have the best restaurants. I've been to 50's Prime Time (didn't like it), Hollywood and Vine (didn't like it either) and Mama Melrose (great food but bad service). So my choice would be Mama Melrose.

I would agree with you that the restaurants at HS are just ok to not ok. even brown debry in my opinion is enjoyable and decent but not amazing by any means. My favorite restaurnat in sci fi..its just a nice atmosphere and the food is burgers fries you can not really mess that up. and zero antics

Counter service: Starring Rolls
Table service: Sci-Fi Dine In

But to be honest, DHS is pretty weak. Although I think that's true of MK and AK, too...

I would tell you to keep the reservation. The theming is great and the food is pretty good too. If you don't want to participate in the antics the cast members understand and will keep it low key. In the past we would always eat at The Brown Derby, but the last two visits we ate at Prime Time. I actually like the food better. :thumbsup2

I love love love both 50's Primetime and Sci-Fi!!!!! Yes, they are not fine dining establishments but the food is tasty and they are FUN!!! The atmosphere at both can't be beat - can't bring myself to choose one over the other, always have to go to both!!!:goodvibes
