You guys are always such a wealth of knowledge- thought I would give you a try with this question.

I would like to take DD (age 7) to NYC in late October. Any recommendations for a basic, clean mid price hotel? Preferably in Mid Town.

We'll be seeing a show and hitting museums and such.

Real experiences are much better than shopping for prices on Expedia!!

Thanks!

I stayed at the Metropolitan last September and loved it! I don't remember exactly how much it was, but it wasn't too bad, I think under $100 a night. Probably depends on when you go. It was at the corner of Lexington and 51st, very good location. It was right near a fire station, and while that didn't bother my dad or I, if you're a really light sleeper it might be a problem...we looked at it as a positive though, we love the noise and bustle associated with the city.

Wow, have a great time!!!!!:Pinkbounc

Thanks for the suggestions so far- still interested in hearing any other personal recommendations.

Price range I am expecting to have to pay would be about $185-$220. (Not that I want to have to pay that much but that is NYC for you!)

Thanks!

Stay away from the Milford Plaza! I hated it. We had so many problems that they gave us a free stay and we didn't use it because we didn't want to go back. I like the Algonquin. It is a small hotel, but it is clean and has alot of character. Alot of writers used to frequent the place. There is a good little diner right outside for a quick bite and Radio City is right around the corner which is very convenient if that's one of your stops. I forget what we paid, but it wasn't bad (maybe around 120-130 per night).

My very favorite is the Michelangelo -- I just got back from there! I've stayed there 3 times and I don't think I'll stay anyplace else unless I just can't get any kind of good rate.
It's at 51st and 7th -- great location. The rooms are big beautiful and spotless. There is a free breakfast -- rolls, pastry, coffee and juice. The people are wonderful. And I've booked rooms for under $200.

I see they have an internet special now. Don't know for what dates or for how much.

Not midtown, but check out Hotel Beacon on the Upper West Side at 75th and Broadway. They have a website and you can also read reviews on Tripadvisor.com. We stayed there a few years ago and were very pleased. Good neighborhood, large, clean room and reasonably priced. Have fun!
