Father/Daughter song??

I don't know if anyone can help, but I'm trying to come up with a song to dance to with my dad. I don't want the typical songs--definitely not Butterfly Kisses.... but I can't really come up with anything good....any thoughts???

I do want something really special and meaningful. He has always liked Barbra Streisand and that type of genre.....

I was terrible at deciding this as well!!!

My dad isn't the mushy lovey dovey type of guy so a lot of classics were out... we were talking just last weekend about it actually and I was talking about how I loved the song from the movie 50 first dates (somewhere over the rainbow by iz... it's the hawaiian sounding version) and he was like "that's it!!!" so that's what we're going with. I love it! It just seems to suit us.

I forgot to mention that my dad does not like country music at all so no "In My Daughter's Eyes" which was one of my favorites. I gave him a Barbra Streisand song to listen to but he said that wasn't the one either....so I'm still on the search!!

Has your Dad ever called you by a nickname? Or did he ever sing a song to you? Despite the tempo, if it has meaning behind it...I think it's the best way to choose your song.

For instance, my Dad has always called me "Dolly" and he occassionally would attempt to sing like Louis Armstrong doing a rendition of "Hello Dolly" to me when I was younger. So, I am choosing Hello Dolly as the song we dance to.

This would be a less common choice... But my Dad and I danced to Somewhere Out There from An American Tail. It was very sweet. If I had thought of it at the time I would have suggested Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. We used to sing that together in the car when it first came out.

Hmm, well, if you're not opposed to a song in another language, there is a GORGEOUS French song called "A Ma Fille" (To my daughter) by Charles Aznavour--one of the greatest French singers, and the lyrics are gorgeous. Might be worth checking out on i-tunes if you and your dad don't mind being bold and a bit dramatic.

If you like the melody, I can help you translate in detail as French is my first language but the gist of the song is basically the father saying that he knows this day has been long coming-- the day that he will come home to an emptier home, without his daughter there; the day that he has to give her away to another man, and she will take his name and leave the name they have shared, yada yada yada, he feels a sense of resentment about this "stranger" taking her away, and yet because this man is what makes her so happy, he won't have any hateful feelings towards him, and will give her husband not only his daughter's hand in marriage, but also his own heart, simply because he loves his daughter so much.
