Fat Acceptance...

:lmao: Yep, I think so...

:thumbsup2 EXACTLY!!!

I'm sorry that it makes you sad to see your mom overweight and unhealthy. But your argument still does not make the comparison between smoking and being overweight a valid one. Your mom's weight might make you sad, and it may be difficult for you to see her that way. But ultimately, it's only HER health that she is affecting. Not yours. Her weight has no physical affect on you or your health. If she were a smoker on the other hand, blowing smoke in your face, then she WOULD be placing your health at risk. Still no comparison.

ETA: Oh! And good for you and the others who have lost weight! :thumbsup2
You should be proud of your accomplishment. But it'll have to be a personal decision that your loved ones will have to make (same as it was for you.) You'll never be able to make that decision for them.

Well if her mother continues, it it is likely that she might be disable in the future. It stands to reason that this poster might be called on to care for her.

California bans trans fats, Disney changes their kids menus, fast food restraunts must like calories for their meals. These are all due to rising obesity numbers.

Let not even talk about obese adults that are passing their habits on to their children. The number of obese children that I see at mall, at schools etc. is staggering.

Do we really think that our health care premiums are not affected by larger numbers of obese people?

I do not think that fat people should be ridiculed. I just don't think smokers should be either.

You may not have said those words but you IMPLIED it with your "no form shape or fashion" hoo hah....

What I WAS saying is No Crap Sherlock.... name someone who doesn't know that?????

Who's denying it???? No one. Especially not me.

My sister was bone thin growing up and I was a chubby kid. I ate HALF as much as she did. She ate everything that didn't walk away from her, I was always on a diet.

I learned that I had an unusually slow metabolism and HAD to eat less and exercise more to just be normal. I lost the weight at age 14 and kept it off until I had my children. My sister, btw, is now bigger than I EVER was because she didn't learn how to moderate at a younger age and when her metabolism slowed down she continued eating more than she should have.

I have to work every day to stay healthy. No one has to tell me, I've known all my life.

It would've been nice if people treated ME as nice as they treated my pretty little sister. They didn't. Was it acceptable to mistreat me when I did NOT self inflict my malady on myself? Maybe to some it was just fine.

:worship::worship::worship::worship:

Smokers are affecting OTHER people with their habit.... how does that compare?????

Fat people take up far more than their half of the bus seat or the Metro seat, yet they only pay one admission, so they are are affecting me with their extra flesh in THAT instance. . . . :confused3

Last I heard was that people had to eat to live. I don't remember ever being told that lighting some paper and a plant and putting it to my lips was a requirement for life. It's a choice you had to consciously make somewhere along the line, like taking drugs or drinking alcohol. Or driving fast, or having unlocked guns in your house. LOTS of bad choices.

Neither are good for you but come on... apples and oranges.

I was expecting a brilliant remark like that.... thanks for not disappointing! :thumbsup2

But they are not affecting your health.

I cannot help that I am pooh sized. I'd rather not get into why as it is no one's business but mine and my doctor's. I am always watching what I eat. I have no choice. But, I am not fat because I am lazy or a glutton. It would be nice if people wouldn't just assume that and treat me like dirt. Compassion is too much to ask for I guess.

However a smoker CAN stop smoking if they are willing to put forth the effort. (believe me, I know)

If they are not willing, then they are just polluting my air and my lungs.

I think there is a big difference.

Are you suggesting that fat people don't make bad choices? Or that their choices shouldn't be judged? Or that no one ever looked in the mirror before they reached 300/400lbs and saw that they were headed for trouble?

Hardly apples and oranges. I'm simply saying that we should be more tolerant of all people and their weakness not just the weakness that we also suffer from.

OMG! Talk about ignorant rude comments. Then move to another seat if I or some other as you call us fat people are in your way!!! And don't start that nonsence about only paying for one admission, seat or whatever. :headache:

Again so quick to judge others. Shame on you!!

You may not have said those words but you IMPLIED it with your "no form shape or fashion" hoo hah....

I implied nothing. What I SAID (if you go back & read my post CAREFULLY) was that an overweight lifestyle is not healthy in any way. If you can show me where I am wrong, I will stand corrected.

And I DO acknowledge that overeating is not the only cause. Many times it IS out of the person's control to an extent. There are certain meds (steroids for one) that play hell with a person's weight, along with various metabolic disorders. But I will wager that those are in the minority.

My sister, btw, is now bigger than I EVER was

Are you happy with this??

Pretty bitter mood today, eh??? Are you always this abusive with people who dare to disagree with you??

Oh for Christ's sake...that was just a "brilliant" response. Please share more words of wisdom.

Don't put words in my mouth now, Jim... I guess inflections and attitudes don't come across on a message board.

If you find me abusive, I apologize. I've had 50 plus years of listening to crap like this. I sound abusive because it ticks me off... Ask anyone who knows me.

Thanks for the tit for tat... it's been fun!

Who are you to judge? Perhaps you should let us in on some of your bad choices (assuming you've ever made any:rolleyes: ) and let the rest of us sit in judgement of you. Deal?

It comes from being defensive, from people looking at you like you shouldn't exist simply because you are overweight. They don't stop to think there might be a reason, or just to be grateful they don't have similar challenges, oh no, you offend their eyesight. So, you get dirty looks.
It gets old really fast.

Jeez....any pent up anger issues you may need to deal with? :sad2:

Go back and read my posts. I do not think it is ok to judge fat people. I also do not think it's ok to judge smokers. Just as I don't think fat people should be called names, I don't think smokers should be called names either. Clear now?

These threads are always amusing. I'm mildly pooh-sized, as is nearly every female in my family going back to my great-great grandmother (that's the last picture I have). We have no history of heart disease, no diabetes, no high blood pressure issues, no cholesterol issues. In fact, my last cholesterol screening came back as one of the best my doctor has ever seen with anyone. We have a history of dying around 100 years old.

My heart rate is normal, by BP is normal, my thyroid is not normal, hence the weight issues. I have had nurses ask if I jog because my BP is similar to that of a regular runner (they only have to look at me and realize that there is no way I ever run anywhere).

However, several of my thin or "normal" friends have all sorts of health issues. One was on cholesterol meds and BP medication before she was 30, another was on osteoporosis drugs at 26 because her dieting sucked all the calcium out of her bones. Another can't bend over to tie her shoes and gets winded going up a filght of stairs.

Being thin doesn't equate to being healthy any more than being overweight equates to being unhealthy. Unforunately, there are too many brainwashed people who think that all thin people are healthier than all fat people, which is not the case at all.

I'm a fat smoker, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies! ;)

Go back and read what I highlighted. You said " are we suggesting that fat people shouldn't be judged?" Here, I'll make it easy for you.

So is the guy spread out over two seats with his bags or practically laying down hurting your health also?

You know what I hate about this thread? The OP posted his/her stuff & hasn't posted since.
