Fastpass return or replacement?

You’d think in this day and age they could computerize all lines. Leading up to their trips, guests would open an app, click all the attractions they would like to experience, select all their break times and meals and let Disney schedule all attractions for every guest across the park.

Oh, but that would leave no money for Disney.. sooo. Nevermind.

I would personally hate this. I don't want my entire park day planned out like that.

if 10,000 people have the Lightening Pass+ then how can they all go to the front of a queue, that makes no sense at all.

I would guess, they will prices this so high that it will be a very unusual, low volume option. I would also guess in the odd situation where they have a Lightning Pass plus wait, they would say that currently it is a 20 minute wait for Lightning Pass+. If it is $50 per per person per ride, I doubt a family of 4 is going to pay $200 to wait for 20 minutes, they would just come back later.

I suspect that this sounds more complicated than it is. For example, depending on how this is implemented, the standby queue could be really cool. If you can be virtually standing in a long standby line until it hits 30 minutes, that would be very awesome. I would assume for this to work there would be a scanner / scanning system to add your name to the list at the start of the standby line for people who want to just walk up and ride. If the ride is less then 30 minutes, just scan and walk in. If the ride is more than 30 minutes, there is a sign indicating when they are taking Standby reservations for. You scan band, get in the virtual line and come back at X to stand in a much shorter physical standby line.

Only one standby line at a time, so if the standby is too long, then just pick another ride. It would work the same but give you more time to shop, eat,etc. win - win.

Here's the thing about "sounding more complicated than it actually is": If it "sounds" too complicated to the casual visitor, how likely will they be to even attempt to sift thru it? In effect, "sounding complicated" makes it too complicated.

n the podcast, they specifically cited how the line for Slinky would get shutdown after it extended past Little Mermaid. With a virtual standby queue, you could theoretically join the wait to join the queue and go off to do something else. Once the queue gets to a manageable length again, those who had joined the wait could then get in line.

Shopping and snacking is all that will be left to do. It sounds like regular standby lines may not always be available. I guess that's why the rumor includes a paid Genie option to give you a "plan". Ughhh, I hope this is a load of stuff, but I can see it happening. (Still ranting about a rumor - nothing to see here!)

I agree. They aren't set up to have 3 separate lines. They can't put instant access in the FP line with the regular lightning pass. Something is missing. I'm not quite buying there will be 2 versions of the lightning pass.

Agree. That is what I am thinking. My guess is Lightning Pass+ is going to be like VIP tours, a virtual non-entity. Standby is only when needed. A lot of the Genie services are matching what Touring plans does. In the end, this sounds like bells and whistles around the Paris system.

We haven't been to WDW since 2019. My plan was to wait and see how things go, and weigh the pros and cons. If this system is implemented, it would be another for the 'con' side of the list.

Or that visitor will just throw money at the problem to make it go away: they might just pick whatever gets them to the ride fastest without bothering to figure the system out.

So with genie basic I now have to wait for a time to be allowed to wait in the same long standby line? So that’s just slowing me down even more. No more casually strolling the park and seeing 20 minutes for Dumbo and jumping in line with the kids on a whim? What a magic-killer.

Seems overly complicated. I love the logistics of planning Disney trips but this sounds like a bit much. I wonder if this is something they would bundle with resort stays like universal does?

They didn't venture a guess as to when this would be announced. They only implied that it would roll out around Oct 1.
