fastpass questions - sorry if this has already been asked

I have some questions regarding fastpasses. I have been to Disney but it's been a while and I don't remember some things. We will be going Dec 23-27.

So my questions are...if we get to a park early in the am, about what time should I expect the return time to be? Is there time to go to other attractions and come back? Is there a window that you have to be back to the ride within?

How many fastpasses can you have at once? I thought it was one, but I read somewhere about securing fastpasses in the morning for the evening and I didn't think it was possible to secure more than one and for a specific time.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It seems lately that the first FPs of the day have been delayed somewhat--eg if you are the first person to FP a ride at park opening, then the return window may 30 minutes to an hour later--not the next 5 minutes, which you might expect. This may not be true for the time you are there, as it is so busy that perhaps the FP lines will open earlier.

In general you will have time for other rides before your fastpass expires, and later in the day, when your fast past return may be 3-4 hours after you get it, for sure you will.

You can have more than one FP, for one of three reasons. First, you can get another FP two hours after your first, even if your return window is greater than 2 hours away. Second, some FP machines are not connected to the network--e.g. "Lights" at MGM was not the last time I checked. Third sometimes the machines are just nice to you!!

You cannot get a FP in the morning for the evening by intent; however, it is possible that for very popular FP rides, especially those with small capacities, on very busy days--eg Peter Pan--you can get a FP at 11 whose return time is after 5p.

Keep in mind that you don't HAVE to return within the window--95% of the time you can use a FP that has expired. It's a kindness not to do this too often, as the whole FP system is based on eliminating waits by matching demand and capacity--so if you go after your time you are adding demand to what the system expects, and possibly (if enuf people do it) messing with the wait times...

At park opening, the FP times will be for around 45-50 minutes after opening. I don't recommend getting a FP 1st thing because the lines are already short that early in the morning. ONly get one if you have limited time or want to ride a specific ride more than once.

Early in the morning the time window will be closer to the time you obtain the FP than later in the day.-(You'll have more time to ride rides, before you come back, later in the day) I hope that makes sense.

You can only obtain a new FP after you current one has become valid OR 2 hours after you obtained your current one. So it it possible to have more than 1 FP at a time if one of them has a time frame more than 2 hours away. At the bottom of the FP it will tell you specifically what time you can get another one.

5 minutes after the start time for your fast pass window, you can get another. I noticed that the first time for most fast passes was around 10AM. So get your first fast passes as soon as you get in, ride the ride you want and then go on your FP ride. At Epcot, you'll need to get FP for Soarin' or Test Track then ride the other.

Some attractions have FPs for specific times, like 15 minutes before the show starts (Like Light Motors Action). And you can still get a FP for another attraction at the same time.
