FastPass Policy 'Change'?

Exactly. I see so many threads where you, T Catt, and others (many, many others) patiently and repeatedly try to explain/justify the fact that FP don't expire within the day they are received. And these people are just so unbelievably obnoxious in how they respond to the idea.

I say, stop even bothering to try. You're never going to win with the kind of person who rudely says that a touring strategy is only for "rule breakers" on one page, and then two pages later says, "well I'll do it now that I know about it."

If these people are throwing away their FP, or using them at 9:50am, because that gives them a nice warm little I'm a Disney Teacher's Petfeeling, I say LET THEM. Shorter FP lines at 8:00pm for the rest of us darn rule breakers. Stop bothering to try to convince people of something that shouldn't require any convincing!

Perhaps it is my line of work that leads me to take things that are "in writing" to be fixed...I work in insurance, where everything we do must be in writing, otherwise it essentially doesn't count. Legally, I must follow up every policy wording phone call with an email, basically recapping what I stated in the phone call and sending over the policy wording to cover our company's liability exposure. So my apologies if I've offended, but I tend to view things in writing as fixed or rules. My worldview, in essence, is affected by the work I do 50 hours a week. I don't think this is that uncommon, most people's views and attitudes tend to be influenced by anything they are continually ensconced in.

Probably not, but that's as far back as the search will pull the threads.

You are of course 100% right. So why do I keep posting?

Because there are so many people who legitimately don't know or understand this situation. I have to think that some of them will be helped by the shared knowlegde. I've learned a LOT from the Dis, and I do enjoy helping others out - and it's only right. Circle of life, kinda sorta.

I will grant you that my skin has gotten thinner, and I'm letting more of my natural sarcasm show, of late, but I honestly do try to be helpful.

You certainly are helpful, IMO. At least until the point where you have to go all uh, well, you know. ;) :goodvibes

Let me start by saying that receiving a little harsher responses than you should have because this has been a heated topic recently on the boards and it's become challenging to maintain patience.

That said, at the risk of keeping this thread going (who am I kidding, it will anyway) the back of the fastpass prohibits returning early but only requests you return within the window.

In the words of some other boards (non-Disney) I've been a member of...

FTFY (Fixed That For You) ;).

:rotfl:

There are always going to be interested, open-minded, curious lurkers who will get the GOOD info from a response. That's reason enough to keep on trying.

You might do as a couple other people do, and just get some stock responses, save them in a text file, and pull 'em out when needed. That way you don't have to reinvent the wheel each time, which allows feelings to show up and get all pesky.

I work in insurance, .... I tend to view things in writing as fixed or rules.

OK. I once accidentally let my car insurance lapse. I was desperate. I had been with Geico for years, and this was the first time I'd ever been late with a payment, let alone let it get something like 2 weeks lapsed. I was terrified.

By the rules as far as I knew them, I was out of luck. I was going to have to start over, at the beginning, and since I'd had a lapse I was going to be in deep trouble.

I was very upset with myself when I called to explain and beg, and they listened very kindly. They, after much hemming and hawing, let me pay a few payments right then and there (and I still have NO idea how I had that much available at that moment (probably b/c I'd forgotten to pay it, but it was more than just the one missed payment) b/c I had NO credit cards and NO savings at that time), and they reinstated me, and didn't punish me for having let it lapse.

So there are grey areas in insurance, too. Now it was likely a policy for the agent, a little-used happy thing that they could pull out for long-time, otherwise good customers.

But as that customer, I certainly didn't know that, and had NO idea that I would come away from that with the same insurance I'd had before it lapsed!

So you're in insurance, but unless that was the only time in the universe that that has happened, insurance companies DO seem to have "let's not tell the customers up front" exceptions like that, and all the customer has to do is ask (and have been a good customer) and pay a bit more at that moment.

Not so different, in a way, than Disney saying "gotta use it inside this timeframe" but having the ability to let people use them late. Except that Disney does it more often than insurance companies do. :)

I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree with this. Maybe try this. Go to the 5:50 FP ride, then go to the restaurant at 6pm for your 4:30 reservation and see if you get in when you walk up.

Here's a better example. Go to your 5:30 ADR at O'hana knowing you have SM FP's good from 7 to 8 pm, then get delayed when your O'hana seating doesn't happen until 6:30, and you don't get back to SM until 8:15 because of a slow server and being stuck on the monorail for 20 minutes while they had to clear a motor failure.

Now, deal with being told that, even tho' in the real world two hours is plenty of time to eat dinner and get back to the MK, you were delayed by a later than planned meal, and a balky monorail, and even tho' it isn't your fault, you can't ride SM using your FP.

And that's the bottom line. Everything else is about as useful as a non-winning lottery ticket (not that I'd know anything about THAT...).

Here in KY we call that the redneck retirement plan.

Did what? I hope I didn't offend anyone but I always viewed fast pass as a reservation. You wouldn't make a reservation at a restaurant but show up three hours later and expect to get in right away especially ahead of others who were waiting in line already for a table.

I think that is the height of ignorance.

Well...first I do believe you meant "height of arrogance".
But, the best analogy I have heard of why returning late for FP is fine is this....
FP is not a dining reservation...you are correct that WDW will not hold a dining reservation for someone who is 3 hours late. FP was designed as a way to hold your place in line so that you can do other things (ie: spend money in their park). So imagine that you get online for a ride and then you decide that yo'd like to wait until your sister gets there...so instead of proceeding onto the ride (ie: instead of using your FP during that 1 hr window), you just continue to let others ahead of you until your sister shows up....that would be ok right?
Basically the same thing is happening with late FP usage. You're not cheating the system..you still use the same number of FP's in a day - based on when you are allowed to get another one....you're just letting people in ahead of you by using it late.

Good analogy! :thumbsup2

These threads seem to be dying out more quickly lately. Maybe it's because there are people with already written logical responses to use? Still, it seems as the threads get shorter, the more threads get started. :scared:

While we were at WDW a couple of weeks ago, a lady I was sitting next to told me she was upset because they misread their FP and missed their time. Before I could say anyting to her a gentlmen who was stading and had his back to us turned around and said not to worry, you can use it till the end of the day. He then turned towards the back of the full bus and yelled, "Yeah everyone, you don't need to return during your actual time period on FPs. You can use them till the end of that day. My family and I obtain as many FPs as possible throughout the day and save them all for the last couple of hours before the park closes. It's awesome!" During the times we used a few late day FPs, we noticed that the people who entered the line before us had early afternoon FPs. No big deal, just saying I am seeing it more.
