FastPass+ linking friends

My family and I have used the new fastpass+ system. Our next trip will be in July with a group of people that have never even been to Disney. So I am wondering if I should link our reservations together. Will I be able to make FastPass resevations for all of us? They should all have their own My Experience accounts. Please help this part is ALL new to me. I have never gone with a group all with seperate hotel reservations.

I guess I am confused about what the point of linking is? Is it so you can see what everyone else has planned. Not nessessarily being able to book fastpasses for someone?
