Fastpass line being managed differently?

Do you happen to have the link to where Josh actually posted this pic. It would be nice to know when it was taken and I'd like to see what he had to say about it.

But honestly, a picture, while interesting to look at, just doesn't mean much. I could easily post a dozen pictures of absolutely no lines whatsoever. It wouldn't mean that it's typical of what happens on a daily basis.

Deleted by request. Thought I find it funny by quoting me it's listed somewhere else.

We waited well over 5 minutes using FP+ for a number of attractions, across multiple trips in the past year. Many times, we've heard guests say, "THIS is the FASTPASS line?"

Our Space Mountain wait times WITH FP+ have been the worst. I recorded: over an hour, 55min, and 37 min waits.

At BTMRR- we waited 45-50min, but that was a day when the ride had been down before our FP started. other BTMRR waits have been closer to the 15 min mark.

The Safari is almost always a minimum 20min wait with FP, especially if you include the post merge wait.

At TT, it matter a good deal how you define the wait. The prep room and post prep room add quite a bit of time to the process.

Jungle Cruise also comes to mind. We waited over 20 min one day with FP+. Guests were not happy, because it was rather hot.

Over multiple visits we waited 15 min with FP+ at a number of rides: 7D, TT, EE, Splash, Anna/Elsa. I was also surprised to have a 10-15 minute wait at Spaceship Earth.

We've not ridden Soarin' since the advent to FP+, but we timed many FP- visits. Ten years of visits with extended family meant lots of child swap at Soarin'. We never waited less than 45minutes, usually over an hour- though that was to complete the ride. Our standard practice was to ride LWtL AND eat lunch while waiting. If we couldn't do that, we went on LWtL twice, then spent quality time in the plant gift shop, then waited on the benches some more. With tiered FP+, there's no contest between TT vs. Soarin'.

How is a line leading up the FP return entrance any different than it ever was? Before, you had to wait for a CM to take people's paper FP, and now, you have to wait for people to scan in. Not seeing what's "new" about this.
There are more rides with FP+ so this is New.

This was not our experience last May. I didn't notice any difference in FP line wait times between the old and new systems.

That photo was taken first week of May. It's from his post on 5/8.

The long line is the FP+ return line, the entrance where the CM's are standing is the regular standby entrannce.

He indicates correctly that it's probably because some knucklehead doesn't know how to use FP+, which is what i was responding about. He also indicated that come back in 15 minutes and the line might not existt at all, or it could be longer.

He actually said, come back in 15 and it would most likely be gone:

In his judgement it was a temporary issue and while it looks really bad, probably didn't take long to clear it out once whatever problem that happened was taken care of. We usually run into a line like this every trip and have since we started going. Things happen. If this were typical of a lot of fp+ lines, then there's a real problem, but in our experience, this is not close to typical.

His comment "Long backups like this aren't uncommon" got my attention.

They aren't uncommon, and they never have been. I read that, but didn't think it significant because temporary backups happen all the time and always have.

To summarize, FP lines exist, CAN be bad, aren't uncommon ... and what?

I'm confused.

...but not at Big Thunder.
I guess I misunderstood since you didn't specify Big Thunder. On our last visit there were several attractions with FP+ lines to the first scanner. We waited in a few.

I was referring to the controversial photo :)

I experienced this exact same issue in December when I was last at Epcot, specifically at Seas with Nemo & Friends, we arrived during our FP+ window and the FP queue was literally OUTSIDE the building and overflowing outside of the FP entrance area, meanwhile the adjacent standby line only had a 20 min wait posted, the entrance CMs even went as far as telling some of us in the FP+line that we should get into the standby line instead as it was shorter!!!!!!!! I was in shock that a CM would say this (despite good intentions) and that the "FP+ line" was so longer than standby!!:confused::mad: I could have used the standby line and booked a FP+ for another attraction..

When FP+ was new, this was the case at every attraction. It was especially bad at MK. (I did not quote waits from that trip in my above post, btw.)

The delays were caused by the time it took to scan MB's. The time it takes CM's to scan MB's has actually improved over time, in my experience. After years of experience with WDW's stellar IT, and it is not hard for me to imagine days where the scanners are acting funky.:sad2:

Originally, there was also an issue with how FP+ times were assigned. The initial FP times were all on the hour. (or maybe it was hour and half hour?) It was only when I adjusted times that I got more fluid FP times between the hours. Simply put, I quickly realized the benefit of adjusting ALL our FP return windows.

Still, when we were IN the parks that first trip, we sometimes arrived at attractions near the top of the hour, with a LARGE throng of guests. I'm guessing a significant portion of guests use their FP's at the start of their time windows.

Is that stealing if the source is credited? Just curious. Doesn't seem like a big deal either way.

I'm always amazed when you come on here in such a huff. Seems rather silly since you have a lot of fans on here.

I've always liked his site and referred many people to it but one day I realized my son is in a picture he took and posted on that website. I wonder if I can ask him to delete it?

EDIT: Just checked his site and there are actually two pictures of our entire family posted. I understand that by entering the park we give Disney explicit permission to take and use our photos but I'm fairly certain those rights are not extended to non-affiliated commercial third parties. I've emailed him asking him to remove them from his website.

I am too. Backed up lines have been happening at WDW since lines first started at WDW, whether it was standby, fp+ or fp and for many reasons. I'm not sure what the point of the discussion is either.

Will you please delete your link to Josh's site. Thanks

Wow- do you have the right to request other people to remove links from their posts? I know you're upset that the owner of that photo didn't want you to post it, but really- this is inappropriate, don't you think?

To be clear, do we need to not link to photos or just post photos? I have linked to a photo on that site before (because it was enormously helpful). If it's not ok, I won't do it anymore ....

Probably best not to do it anymore.
