FASTPASS Ignorance Abounds

Even on our first trip to WDW when I didn't plan a thing (yes, I was one of THOSE first timers), I still could read the map and learn how FP worked!!

I hear ALL the time comments from the stand-by line, as we pass people, that it's "unfair" or we're "ditching". I just don't get it.

Do people just not read guidebooks or anything before going to Disney?

I mean - how much better can Disney explain this in the guidebooks and they have CM at the distribution points that can explain it all.

:rotfl: :confused3 :lmao: Forgot that they put that on the maps...that makes it all the more mind-boggling that some people just don't get it.

I think we should just keep the FP's as a secret between us Dissers :ssst: . If the rest of the Disney visitors don't know about them/or how they work, that is just better for us :lmao:

Karen :)

Agreed, I've heard over at Tokyo Disney EVERYONE knows about Fastpass and the lines to get one are nearly longer than the lines for the rides in the morning!

During our WDW trip last month, DH went to ride RNR standy-by with DS8 while I went to get FASTPASSes for later. :rolleyes1 There was a man in front of me who took forever to put his ticket in the machine and then waited for the FP to drop. Took out the FP. Then, inserted another ticket and did the whole thing all over again.:faint: He got 4 FP in all. When he was done, he turned around to me and said, "Boy that thing is tricky". :rotfl2: I almost laughed in his face. I put our tickets in and stepped away from the FP machine within a minute.

 I've received the glares from the people in the stand-by line too. It is really uncomfortable. The FPs are FREE and if they did a little homework or read the park map, they would know how to do the parks efficiently.

:sad2: We've had extra FPs before and people just would NOT accept them. You'd think we had "hot" tickets and were trying to get them in trouble. We're just trying to pass on the magic.:wizard: Some people just don't "get it". Oh well. :ssst: Hopefully, our little secret won't be known to the masses and they can keep being out-of-the loop. It's just like the Rider Swap tickets. We use them whenever possible too.:)

She says, "Oh, we aren't staying at a Disney hotel so we can't use those machine things."
:confused3 WHAT:confused3 ?????

I think those that have done Universal get it confused because if you stay on property there, the FP is including on your ticket.

It's only because of the Disboards that I realized I could use an expired fast pass. In May, I went to a F&G presentation that lasted longer than I planned, so I was about 15 minutes after the last time on my Soarin Fast Pass, I'm so glad I had read here that it would still be good!

Bobbi:)

Ok I have been to WDW 5 times and, call me crazy, but I have no idea what these "FP"s or "Fast Passes" are...

:rotfl2: Kidding!!! :lmao: I have really gotten a kick out of reading this thread! As someone else said, if I saw people getting to go through a line really quickly, and I was waiting, I would be finding out why!

I'm with the rest of you...Every time we left a park (usually about 5-6:00 pm)I would try to give away our unused fastpasses (I also try to pick one up every time my window would open, and we would alos get one for everyone in our party whether or not they planned to ride).

I just remember trying to give away Space Mtn. or Soaring FP's and people telling me "no thanks!" ???:confused3 . I will say that if you did find someone who actually KNEW what a FP was, that was certainly worth it!!

I know someone who swears Fastpass is something that's included in your Disney package. They have asked me several times- "now, fastpass is on my package, right?". I've given up on explaining it and now just say "yep it's included in your package". This is someone whose been to WDW before, too. :confused3

Ignorance abounds, not just about Fast Passes, but also about Single Riders lanes. How many times have we've seen people arguing at the end of the Single Riders lanes that some parent MUST ride with his kid. Excuse me, then why did you get in the Single Riders line? I was just there in May and saw this twice. Test Track had broken down again and when it opened back up, there were very long lines for both the stand by line and fast pass line, so I went through the single riders line. There was a guy in the fast pass line with his kid. The kid started yelling I was cutting. I smiled and told them no I was in the Single Rider line. The dad said, 'well so are we' and picked the kid up, put him over the railing, then climbed over himself. I warned him that the line was for single riders only and that he and his son would be split up. He said 'we'll see". Lo and behold, we got to the front and when the CM told the dad to go to one line and the kid to another, the dad went ballistic. The CM explained the single rider line to him, and the dad said "yeah, yeah, I understand single riders, but I thought we would at least be in the same car. My kid can't ride alone with strangers. Just put us in the same car.:rolleyes "

A few days later at AK, I was again in the single riders lane for EE and a dad went ballistic when he was told he couldn't ride in the same car with his daughter. What's funny is the single riders lane at EE is way off to the right of the fast pass and stand by lanes. It's sort of hard to find, so if he didn't know what it was, how did he find the line to begin with?:rolleyes1

And yes, in both case the dads didn't get away with it. They were made to go back to the end of their correct lanes.

I think some people are thinking the "package" aspect because that's how USF does it. Stay in their on-property hotels, and your room key gets you into the Universal Express line during your stay, or you can buy your way in quicker by coughing up the "Universal Express" fee.

I fervently hope that WDW doesn't decide to enhance their bottom line by selling the fast pass privilege, or by selling the all-park fastpasses. Not that I'd begrudge someone who can afford buying their way into the front of the line, but somehow I feel that's whats wrong with so much of our society today -- the privileged buying their way ahead of everyone else.

These stories are mind-boggling!

I guess I can just pick Disney vets out of the crowd, because the few times I've given away FPs, the folks are way happy to receive them.

Let's all bow our heads and say a silent prayer for the uninformed . . .

Thank goodness your stories ended with a bit of Disney justice!

If the cheaters get rewarded with what they want,
it makes anyone who does play by the rules into a fool for doing so.

I'm so glad. SO MANY TIMES I see people claim ignorance of Disney Rules (or society rules in general!) and GET AWAY WITH IT!!!! Don't EVEN get me started on EMH bracelets!!!!! I'm glad the CMs stuck by the policy on this one.

A few years back, Disneyland Resort Paris, we actually had a lodging/park pass package that included unlimited fast passes. So folks that have visited that park might think a little different.

But we're excited to have a little baby again. The baby swap passes are unbeatable (up to 4 others and good anytime that day).

I keep a couple FPs in my wallet at all times. You never know when you will strike up a conversation with some one and the topic is Disney. I give them my three or four must know tips about a Disney vacation and one is how to use FPs. I am a visual person and it helps for me to see something to understand it. I just whip out a FP and show them how it works. I have plenty of unused ones (and yes I do give away lots at the parks too) so I give them out. I shocked a dad once at the Children's Hospital in New Orleans. Both our daughters were to have surgery and we struck up a conversation in a hall. He said they were taking his daughter to Disney after her surgery for a much needed trip. After he told me this was their first trip I went into full Disney mode. I gave him a couple FPs and jotted down all the great Disney websites. He must have thought I was a nut.

I also get plenty of park maps and the resort maps that have a great WDW map on the back. These are my little Disney care packages. And no, I don't keep this in my wallet.

Even though it looks pretty straight forward, Disney could make it a little clearer.

They could mention it is FREE.

They could mention that it is open to EVERYBODY, not just resort guests.

Right below the FASTPASS section ROBO posted, is the section about Photopass (sorry I don't have scanning equipment). It doesn't mention anything about the cost.

So, I could see how people could be confused.

We had to leave Epcot after going on Soarin, and we had just received the Dream Passes for that day and knew we couldn't use them. We went to where the FP machines were and I tried to give the special FPs away, but it took an OK from a CM for the family to realize it was legit!
rwc:)

We had the same problem at DHS! It took me about 15 minutes to give away our dream fastpasses. We were already outside the park, and most people ran away from me screaming "we already have tickets!" like I was a scalper or something. I finally found a newlywed couple who took them, but didn't seem too sure what they were. I hope they were able to figure it out once inside.

With leftover regular fastpasses, sometimes I just leave unused ones on top of the fastpass distribution machines, hoping the next person who comes along (and knows what they're doing, because they're trying to get a fastpass) gets a happy little surprise.
