Fastpass Booking Question

I was wondering if this idea would work. If I have a booking for say 8/16-9/2. Fastpass booking would open 6/17. That would allow upto 8/16. then each morning I can book the following day until we hit the end of the trip. Now if I adjust the days of my trip down after 6/22 and before 7/2. I would then only be responsable for paying the 6 nights of the stay but I would ensure that each day no one can book fastpasses ahead of me.

Where if I book the planned stay anyone staying from 8/16 to 8/22 could pick up fast passes before my slot opens for booking and then my options could be more limited.

First I believe that you get up through 14 days with a concurrent stay (i.e. if you were staying for 14 nights you could book up through 14 days worth of fast passes; if you had a ticket for 14 days). So you would just go in and book your fast passes for the entire trip. Now regarding your plan to try to do fast passes early, i'm not really sure if there is a huge benefit. From my perspective I was able to get all of the fast passes i wanted for a short two day trip just booking in the normal time slot. So not worth the extra effort... And I did manage to get FEA and 7DMT so I was going for the hard to get ones. But that's just me...

Your understanding may benefit from reading the FP FAQ at the top of the forum and linked to below in my signature. In particular, read the posts concerning booking windows and availability.

And again I think that this plan would work for the ADR as well. I understand that I could get the rides I want at regular without going to extra length but I am wondering if the times would be available when I want them in maximizing park touring plans

You need to factor in an onsite stay and how the FP system operates. It's described in the section mesaboy2 listed above.

When your FP booking window opens, you book for all park days up to a max of 14 days. Then, you add on a day of FPs with each passing day.

If you are trying to "front load" a stay that you have no intention of using, book a room-only Stay that ends when your "real" Stay begins. Your FP Booking window opens based on Stay#1 and includes all the days of Stay#2 for FP booking.

But can I link both stays on the same Disney experience account. But if I were to do a two reservations with 1 for a room only then it would be checkin 14 days ahead of real checkin and ending at real checkin date. Would it allow to book fast passes in 2nd reservation even though first ends on real checkin day?

You now need to read the Split Stay section of the FP FAQ thread. It's linked in mesaboy2's Signature.

It appeared that most posters in the Pandora thread added on a 7-day room-only stay to open up their booking for their "real" stay.

Reading the Split Stay section explains what you are attempting to do.

I've read the FAQ for fast pass post but the thing it says is a room only booked after a package will extend to end of package. Well I would want the package to stay in this case not the room only. It says if you book room only first the fast pass opens 60 before the package date

When the FP booking window opens for Stay#1 it includes Stay#2 whether or not either is a package. It's easier to have separately linked tickets than to purchase a package.

You also need to read the FP FAQ Addendum that pertains to Stays over 14 days in length. That is also linked in mesaboy2's Signature.

Now why would I book 2 stays and have to put up a deposit on both vs just booking a long stay and then adjusting down dates after booking fast passes?

My thinking is that if the earliest that a date could be booked for fast passes is 14 days ahead of any date. That it would be easiest just to book one stay starting 14 days ahead of that date and then each passing day you could book fast passes for that day until the end of your trip.

If you booked directly with Disney, beware that it is very possible that you cannot add/subtract days to your reservation: there has to be availability (under your discount, if any) for that room. They became much stricter a few years ago. (Example: I called mid-April to adjust a late August POR trip by 2 days both ends. It was a BB, booked Aug of prior year - before airline tickets could be bought. I.e., I had to book the BB a year before the trip. They refused - it was all over this forum about how it had become much stricter. Some people think for exactly the reason that people book earlier start date to get FP and ADRs earlier, then cancel - then they can't sell those 1 or so days left orphaned.)

If you booked through a travel agent it could be much easier to change dates (they are more lenient with TAs), but there's a risk I think. If FD is offered to general public for late August as rumored, you might have trouble finding availability if you change your dates twice. HTH.

And really, really not necessary to deal with all this for late August. HTH.

I found when I booked my FPs two months ago that during the day I booked there was a lot of movement on the FPs. I booked everything I wanted at times that were close and then spent another half hour or so adjusting times. I was able to get exactly what I wanted when by refreshing. I moved one of our 7DMTs FPs, although not FEA just because I got the time I wanted on the first try (day 3 of a 7 day stay in May). You already have a long stay so you're going to be ahead of a lot of people for your second week.

I agree with the PP that if you have any discounts on your package you will have to rebook to change the number of days which could lose your discount. Our TA was very adamant about that so they may not be much more lenient with TAs.

I think you're adding a lot of hassle for little to no benefit.
