Fast Pass Strategy for Day Trip to DHS

We're going on a day trip to DHS (not staying on property). I haven't kept up with all of the fast pass and fastpass plus changes.
What is the best strategy for getting a Fastpass to Toy Story Mania? We have three kids under 6, so we're not rope droppers.
Do they still have the "traditional" fast passes? If so, do they disappear faster bc of Fast pass plus?

Traditional FP is gone. The later you arrive at the park, the less chance you have of snagging TSM FP+s. Rope drop is best. The FP+ system is too new to predict when TSM FP+ will run out.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if I have this down?

1. Go to ticket booth and exchange old tickets for the new kind.
2. Upon entering the parks, go to a fast pass plus kiosk and reserve the rides and times I want, out of whats available? And I do this all using my new ticket.
3. Use the new ticket to scan on the fastpass plus reader upon entering the ride during the reserved time window,
