Fast Pass question

Okay, I'm getting down to the nitty gritty on the details of this trip. I'm the only one going with half a clue about Disney so I need to have all my info before I go to save my own sanity! For fastpass... the idea in some cases would be while you are doing another attraction, send someone else in your group to the fastpass machine of another desired ride. Right? Okay, so I send my DH to get fastpasses for 6 total people (me, him, 2dds,MIL and mom). What does he need. Our room keys (key to the world???)-that is ours and the moms, right?? Tell me if I don't have this correct. He would insert our card and ask for 4 fastpasses then put theirs in and ask for 2 fastpasses? Someone set me straight! :p

You can get one fastpass for each of your park tickets. If there are six of you, send the DH off with all your park tickets, and he'll put them in the fast pass machine one at a time and six fast passes will come out for you.

If you have the Keys to the World, then your room keys and tickets are one in the same. ;)

When I say "one fastpass per ticket" I mean one in your allotted fast pass window. You can get multiple fastpasses during the day.

If all six of you wanted to ride then someone would take six park tickets to the desired rides fastpass machine. We always use the park tickets to get fastpasses.

One thing you have to remember when getting FPs is to keep a strategy. Don't just send someone to get a FP for a ride. For instance (my favorite example) Space Mtn and Buzz. If you send your husband over from frontierland to tomorrowland for a FP for Space Mtn, you may rather have him grab a FP for Buzz first. It has a quicker return time, and when that return time hits, you can get a FP for Space Mtn, and then hit Buzz, then you can hit the rest of Tomorrowland while waiting for your Space Mtn return window. Same for Mission:Space and Test Track. If you want to get a FP for either one, get the one with the quicker return time, this way you can get the next FP quicker. I normally have the FP with the longest wait as my last FP, this way i don't worry about crossing the park for something else. I normally hit as many rides as I can first, then when i am waiting for that last fast pass and past that, I can relax, check out the shops, and maybe hit a few more shows/rides that I can just walk on. Hope this helps out some.

jswalker, the only flaw in your plan is if you get Buzz then Space Mtn, SM is most likely distributing fast passes much quicker than Buzz, so you risk moving your return window further into the day. Possibly past where you'll still be in the park to ride it. (If you're hopping or something.)

Of course, as an afternoon plan, you're way is better because you could be stuck with just SM FPs for hours and not be able to get any more. In the mornings, though, I'd grab SM then Buzz.

We could be confusing the OP even more... :)

I've been hearing that CM's are really crackin down on expired Fast Passes. Over the last year they have been allowing people to use expired Fast Passes, but with more popular rides they are turning away your Fast Pass if it is expired. The biggest one is probably Soarin.

Last month, we used expired fast passes on every ride we rode, except Soarin. We didn't try to use expired fast passes on Soarin, because I had read on this board that the CMs at Soarin would not let you use expired fast passes. Our fast pass strategy was to gather as many fast passes as we could while visiting the parks in the morning when the lines were short. We'd just ride stand by in the morning, since the lines weren't very long. We'd leave the park about 11am when it became busy. When we returned to the parks at night, we would use our expired fast passes. For us, the system worked great.

Thanks for the replies. Wow, my head is spinning once again with the FP strategies. I'm getting from you all that if you get a FP for one ride you can not get another until your 1st FP has reached it's time. Some rides have a longer waiting time so we wouldn't be able to do that other attraction that would have a shorter wait? Right? (Gods, please let me be right!!!) :scared:
Oh, and you all say we use our park tickets, when am I going to see these tickets? We have a package from Disney. Do I get them at check in? Wow, I'm feeling a little out of the loop on these small details. Thanks so much!

It never occurred to me to save up "expired" fast passes. Can you really do that?

If you have a package from Disney, then your room key will also be our ticket. Each person in the room gets a room key, even children.

Most FastPasses will allow you to get another FastPass once it's time has arrived. Example: You get a FastPass for Space Mountain at 9:30 AM and it has a return time of 11:00AM to 12:00PM. At 11:00AM you are free to get another fast pass to another FP attraction. Like snag one for Buzz before you get on SM at 11:01. :)

Every FastPass will tell you at the bottom what time you're allowed to get another, sometimes it will be sooner than its return time, but usually it's the return time. There are some notable exceptions, usually the shows. The one that comes to mind is Indiana Jones at MGM. Since the FP is good for a specific showing, you can usually get another FastPass in 15 minutes or so.

As for your tickets, since you have a package through Disney you'll get them when you check-in to your resort. Your room key and tickets will be on the same card, looks just like a credit card. You can also add your credit card to it for charges in the park and then only need that one card whenever you leave your room. Very convienent.

Yes.

And on two different days in late January of this year,
we successfully used "expired" FPs on Soarin' with no problem at all.
(Soarin' was quite busy at the time.)

But, I would not COUNT ON using "expired" FPs on Soarin' or EE (because those attractions are so popular and crowded)
but, in over a dozen WDW trips since FP has been implemented, I have never ever been turned away using FP that had gone past their "expiration" times (in that same day).

Sometimes you can and sometimes you can't. We weren't allowed to use them on MIssion Space once even though the standby wait time was only 20 minutes. If you plan on doing this you are taking the gamblke that you will be allowed on, they don't have to let you and at busy times they won't.
