So I know you can make 3 FP's for a day and when you are done with 3 you can go to the kiosk and select another one.

My question is.. if your initial 3 include Wishes, since that doesn't happen till late, are you pretty much screwing yourself out of getting any additional FPs?

Yep

Bummer! I just had that light bulb moment when thinking about it.
I don't really care if i give up additional FP's but that might mean I'm doing FP for wishes on my own lol I'm not sure the rest of my group will care that much about fireworks.

Your situation is much discussed on FP+ threads. It is one of THE principle reasons that guests have trouble deciding to choose an advanced Wishes or MSEP FP+.
There are so FEW of them issued, and they preclude getting other FP at MK.

There are so many places to see from that it wouldn't be worth it to me. We easily used 8 FPs at MK in a single day on our October trip last year. We MIGHT try for a Wishes FP on our AK/Blizzard Beach/MK day, but never on a full MK day.

This is when park hopping really becomes a good option if you can do it. You can choose a park like AK where fp+ isn't needed so much and schedule your fp+'s for the evening in the MK. Availability for the wishes FP+ seems to have gotten much easier with the new viewing areas, but same day is still not a likely option.

Their added availability popped up unexpectedly a week or two ago.
I have to assume that as the word gets out about the Wishes FP+ viewing areas, those FP+ will become one of scarcer advance items.

Just compare the total number of guests who can fit into those areas for one showing of Wishes
vs. the number of guests who can be accommodated on 7DMT in a full day.

Time will tell. Stay tuned.

Below is a "work-in-progress" of my overview of the new Hub.
Some of the "outer" sidewalks shown have not been built yet.
Some of the unfinished areas have since been finished.
Again, a work-in-progress, all the way around.

I did use a Wishes FP last trip to MK and I did enjoy being able to sit down and relax with out being surrounded by tons of people. We only went in the evening so it was worth it to us. It might not be if you are starting your day early.

The situation you describe has very recently changed (last couple of weeks) and not for the better.

Just completed all of my FP+ for my trip in 28 days. I have 2 little daredevil DD's. We were commando last 2 trips. They want to ride the fastest, tallest rides. They did almost every coaster at Cedar Point last summer. For one of our 2 MK days I put my foot down. We are going with relatives with younger kids. I decided we are going to ride Peter Pan, Pooh, Tales with Belle, etc, etc, those kind of rides. AND I fastpassed Wishes. We would never have done this the past 2 trips. They are only young once and they are on the verge of growing up, so this day is all about slowing down, enjoying the theming, being innocent, spending time with their young cousins. And sitting in that beautiful new, uncrowded area to watch Wishes I thought was a perfect ending to that type of day. Now, the other MK day may be a little more commando style.

Recent reports are that guests are told they need to stand for the show, and that the areas are very full.
Although some report that they still do sit, their views may be compromised.

This may change as Disney adjusts things, but right now, we just don't know.

Oh no! Too bad. Thanks for the heads up. Im planning another trip and that might change things for me.

I figured this may happen. The early pics I saw on EasyWDW seemed to good to be true as far as being able to sit, even lay down and sprawl out a little while watching Wishes. If they pack people in the viewing spots like sardines, then IMO, it is not worth giving up the extra fastpasses for.

I agree - I may rethink this for myself. I'm not sure I'll entirely care about the crowds as long as I can maybe get some decent photos/video. However I am short and more often than not I think I have a great view of something only to be blocked at the last minute by a very tall person lol.
I can't book any FP's until mid-April so I still have awhile to check out reports.

As for the spots being readily available on the FP booking system... I was playing around and went to the very last day it would allow me to book an FP at the moment and Wishes was not available so I'm thinking they go pretty quick.

I expect availability to tighten as crowd levels increase, but actually since we desperately want wishes fp+'s I've been watching availability for a few months. I can only see 30 days out, but up until the day they opened the new area, I did not once see any availability for wishes. Since that day, I find it easily. Time will tell if it continues to be that open.
