Farrells is making a comeback!!

The first Farrell's opened in 1963 in Portland OR, so I literally grew up going there for birthday parties and family celebrations. When my kids were little we lived a block and a half away from the original store so they went there for birthdays, too, until we moved up here to WA. (The original store operated under the name "Portland's Original Ice Cream Parlor Restaurant" for many of it's later years. I was so sad when the doors closed for good!)

I'm glad to see that Farrell's is making a comeback; Tin Roof Sundae - yummy! :goodvibes

Our Farrells was located in Torrance, CA. We used to love to go there & I remember my 12th b-day party there, too. Yes, we DID get the zoo. I remember all the animals on top of the sherbert & ice cream.

I used to get a big jaw breaker from there. It was a whole 25 cents back in those days, and that would last me for weeks.

I had looked it up a couple of years ago, and they show one in San Diego, but hmmm, maybe not part of the original chain, or a spin off?

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to the comeback. I may have to stop in Mission Viejo on the way south, or maybe go up to Santa Clarita for the heck of it. :)

This thread has made me so happy!! :cool1:

I have so many happy memories of Farrells as a kid! I went there for so many parties and I LOVED the candy store!! I hope they bring them back JUST as they were!

The only one I've been to was in Louisville, KY in the Oxmoor Mall. I lived in and around Louisville for most of my childhood and NOT trip to the Mall was complete without visiting Farrells!!

My parents would be in hog heaven if they brought them back. They still talk about the Hog Troughs that they had back in the 70s  As a lover of ice cream this would be one dangerous place for DH and I :rotfl2:

I LOVED Farrell's as a kid. So happy to see they are making a comeback. I hope they open one in Michigan. This brings back so many memories. I also remember the big drum.

I had my 6th birthday there in Arizona. I won't tell you how old I am today..:rotfl2:

Great to see a comeback. Anyone remember Swenson's (maybe it was a Phx thing)?

We had Swenson's too. Matter of fact, I think there be one here in the O.C.

We had Swensons in N. Calif when I was a teen and to this day there is one here in Reno. We go there at the end of every grading period with some friends to celebrate the kids' grades. Nothing like a Sticky Chewy Chocolate sundae with extra chocolate covered cherries.

Ours was in Woodfield Mall. Funny, we were just talking about the great old ice cream parlors last week at my in-laws. My son couldn't believe it when I described the "Super Purist" -- 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream and a pitcher of hot fudge. That was my favorite (and DH wonders why I'm so fluffy now!)

I had my 6th birthday at that one. I think about Farrell's whenever I am going through my old pictures and see the pictures from that party. At least now I know what the huge sundae in the picture is called now since I didn't remember and it looks as if me and my four friends had no problem finishing it off.

Mamacat - Ever had Swiss Orange Chip - YUMMY!!! To this day it is my all time favorite made by Swenson's and we don't have them around us. Miss that beloved ice cream! :thumbsup2

Sorry, can't say that I have. I'm all about the Sticky Chewy Chocolate although the frozen chocolate covered cherries are my favorite and I sometimes just order several of them without ice cream. ;)

I'm worried about our Swenson's - we were in there last weekend on a Sunday night. First the place was not heated, we were eating (along with a few other patrons) in our jackets and gloves, we were miserable and could not wait to leave . There was only 1 person working the whole store. Their menus are "new" but they are a home printed version of the old tri-fold ones with all the yummy pictures. We have been visiting this Swenson's for 15 years, I hope they make it but with the new menu came new pricing. $7.95 for the Sticky Chewy Chocolate sundae, that's crazy, it used to be $5.95.

Momcat - Both Stores in Phx closed up shop. One closed in the late 90's, the other I think in 2000's sometime. We were sad to see them go, but no one was visiting the stores anymore. Bummer!
