I hate saying goodbye. It's always sad. I had a few more days before it was inevitable, but I decided to just get it over with today.
I opened up my purse and withdrew the checkbook. Next to go was check number 798. Poor, poor 798. Would all those digits actually fit into that little box? They did.
It was difficult, however, getting that dollar amount written out in long hand. If I had to write "continued on reverse" here and proceed with the long hand on the backside, would they accept it? Whew! I managed to get the whole number written out on the front side, but it was a tight squeeze.
I inserted my little coupon for payment along with 798 into the envelope so kindly provided by the lady at H&R Block. My mouth was dry, but I somehow managed to lick the envelope enough to get it sealed. Then came the stamp. It was one of those American Flag stamps, which I felt was extremely appropriate.
I had to send it to the mailbox by DH, as I just couldn't bring myself to do it.Anyway, it's done. It's over. The mail carrier came, and took it away.
Goodbye dear check 798!! I hope the IRS takes good care of you! We will miss you!

I'm hoping for at least a postcard from him telling me exactly what my $787 is paying for - a new toilet seat or perhaps part of a screening wand at an airport? Life's just not going to be the same without mine.
