Farewell, Fitz... for real, this time.

I just read that John Amos passed away in August. He was known for his roles in Roots, Coming to America, Die Hard 2, and Good Times, among others. One of my favorite roles of his was his portrayal of "Fitz," Admiral Percy Fitzwallace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who was killed in the line of duty, on West Wing. He also played football for Colorado State and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a good actor and played roles in SO many shows.

I didn't know the name, but just saw the tribute on GMA and realized I did know and enjoy his work.

Sad to see him go.

It's interesting that you mention the August reporting of his death.

A friend messaged me yesterday afternoon about the passing of John Amos. My reply was that I thought he died back in August. She said it was a hoax. I was sure I'd seen his date of death on a reputable source, because I'd watched Coming to America right after James Earl Jones passed and it prompted me to dig into the status of John Amos. I pulled up IMDB and it still showed an August DOD. When I was chatting with my friend yesterday, IMDB was still reflecting that August date.

Wonderful actor. I know he had some amazing roles, but for whatever reason, my mind keeps going to Beastmaster. Hardly a cinematic wonder, but I remember going to see it in theaters and thinking "That's the guy from Good Times and Mary Tyler Moore." Rest in peace.

Talented actor that I looked forward to watching.

I found out about his death on social media, but the wonderful thing learning that way was reading replies from people about how nice Mr. Amos was. Very kind and genuine to fans. Always nice to read that about someone you enjoyed watching on the screen.

Just makes my heart sad knowing we now lost both dads in Coming to America. RIP, Mr. Amos.
