We recently moved to the NYC area. Among the many items of sticker shock I am trying to get used to are the flights to MCO. We planning on going in October, and most flights are over 300 (jet blue is 307).....
Even Southwest is well over $200 (and isn't a particpating airline in magic express which we'd like to do).

Does anyone who has experience with NY ticket prices know whether i am better off just biting the bullet and booking now, or waiting with the hope prices might drop as it gets closer?

thanks.

As far as I know, if an airline does not participate, that just means you need to pick up your own bags; they won't deliver. You can still use the transportation service to the resorts.

I know, but with three kids under 5, having someone else take my bags is a HUGE help (although I may have to weigh it against the price difference)

If you purchase on JB and the price goes down they will credit your JB Trueblue Account. You will need to sign up for that. If you book on weekdays it is usually less. I always book as soon as the dates open and watch for sales. Our flights for Oct did not go down since May but did go up. Our sons are flying mid-week and theirs did go down from the original $99 to $84. This just happened last week.

Thanks for the information on JB. I did not know you could do that; hopefully I've learned my lesson for next time.

As the day passed (and I actually did work as opposed to looking at ticket prices), the JB tickets went up another $40 (they were up $25 from when I first looked in the morning until I posted). I got scared and booked aa for 300 a ticket -- more than I ever paid to go to orlando (and in choosing seats there were less than 10 empty seats on the flight down).

How jealous am I of those who got $49 tickets!!!!

I got my Tickets from Delta. 2 round trip tickets for $175 each.

I dont know your dates but for October 1st Southwest has RT tickets for about $156 each! Thats the internet special. $57 for oct 1 leaving Islip in Long Island and $99 coming back the 7th

will correct the mis-information posted in this thread.

Sorry if I misinformed. What I meant to say is that "participating" would mean that DME will pick your luggage up for you and transport it (i.e., you don't need to go to baggage claim). For non-participating airlines, you need to pick your luggage up yourself at baggage claim and then take it with you on the bus.

Or am I off-base there too? :confused3

Your off base with that. No matter what airline you fly when you get to MCO you do have to pick up your bags. The only time it matters if your airline is a participating airline is when you are leaving your resort to return to MCO.

All airlines participate for incoming flights, just make sure you are registered with ME and put the yellow tags on your luggage. Head to the ME bus and your luggage will magically show up in your room.

It's the return to the airport that you need a participating airline to check your luggage at the resort. If it's not a participating airline, you can get your boarding passes at the resort, but you must take your luggage with you on the bus and then check it with a skycap or at the airline check-in.

Does this make sense to you...... :goodvibes

If you took the time to read the post I linked to you wouldn't have posted wrong information twice in the same thread.Y
:confused3

You're off base in posting information that's 100% wrong.

OFF BASE! DME will pick up any and all airlines' luggage at MCO... participating or not!

EQUALLY OFF BASE! No matter what airline you fly when you get to MCO you do NOT have to pick up your bags.

hope that helps clear up any confusion...

We are leaving from NYC to MCO from jet blue and i think it's pretty cheap. its $84 going and $ 84 coming back during sept- oct. We booked ours 2 1/2 months ago and got it for $79 going and $79 coming back.

I wasn't trying to misinform again. I was trying to clarify what I stated previously and asked for someone to tell me if I was right or wrong. Sorry, but although the link you posted might have been clear to you, it wasn't clear to me. That's why I asked again.

Perhaps it was the way I was reading it, but your statement didn't seem very nice.

Sorry, I guess I could have been nicer but I still can't believe you looked at Tyler's post which I linked to. You continued to post 100% wrong information. That post begins by saying:

"PARTICIPATING AIRLINE" ONLY REFERS TO THE RESORT AIRLINE CHECK IN DESK.

IT DOES NOT REFER TO GROUND TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM THE AIRPORT, OR INBOUND LUGGAGE TRANSFERS.

Anyone who flies into Orlando International Airport with a Disney resort reservation can take advantage of Disney's Magical Express ground transfers, along with luggage transfers.

I don't know how it could have been any clearer. The main point is in large type and in red. :confused3

I linked to official information to eliminate any doubt. You didn't say you didn't understand the post I linked to, you ignorned it and continued to post wrong information.

Welcome to NY :wave2:
I booked JetBlue today from NY (JFK) to Orlando 9/28 ($84 oneway) returning 10/5 ($84 oneway) Total RT $168.
My dates for WDW were originally to leave on Fri 9/29 but they wanted like $154 one way per person, so I started fiddling around w/ different dates; the month of Oct was pretty high except for weekend around 10/12 or 10/13 I think the fare was around $99 ow, but that may have gone up since I last checked. Also, check Jet Blue leaving from LaGuardia - when i checked flights from LaGuardia on 9/29 they were $119 ow as opposed to JFK that listed $154 ow. The drawback in using Jet Blue from LaGuardia you won't have as many flight options, for e.g., on 9/29 they only had two flights going to Orlando (one late morning, and one evening) and on return date 10/6 they only had one flight.

Thanks. That was the type if fare I was hoping for from jet blue. Unfortunately, my days are pretty set (going 10/7 returning 10/14) because I stay at DVC --fiddling around with dates once the reservations are made is pretty difficult (especially this close).

What makes me the most mad at myself is that the tickets on JB were 275 in the morning. By 4pm (as I debated) almost all options on those dates were over 340.

I saw another post about a lot of people finding ticket prices for OCtober kinda high. at least maybe its not just NY.

Lewissc, I did read the link, a couple of times, in fact. I admit though that I can confuse myself when I try to read things too carefully. Maybe that's why I shouldn't be a lawyer. :rotfl2:

I suppose what I was misunderstanding was reference to "luggage transfers." I see now that this is to mean ME picks up the luggage and transports it. However, there have been so many posts on the board lately about picking up your luggage first. So I guess a few neurons crossfired and I ended up thinking luggage transfers referred to either 1) DME transferring your luggage or 2) if you didn't fly in on a participating airline, you can still "transfer" your luggage via ME when you ride on it. Hence, all guests can "transfer" their luggage by ME, participating or not. See where I was coming from? If so, great! If not, oh well, I'll just openly admit I'm crazy.

Anyway, I don't want to beat this topic to a pulp. Just want to clarify what I said and why I said it, and probably did a poor job of it. In short, the intention was NOT to misinform anyone, honestly thought I was helping. I'll defer to the other DISboard gods from here on out.

VB,
We are Dvc Members also and if you book JetBlue as soon as you book your DVC stay you should do well. We have flown them for years now out of JFK and find the prices to be reasonable most of the time. All the airlines have increased fares due to the fuel costs as we all know but with JB if you watch their fares even after you book the credit you receive is good for one year and since DVC members usually go to WDW at least once a year the credit usually won't have time to expire. You need to book with the credit within the year, not fly within that time. If you join TrueBlue you can receive more points to your account by online booking. We usually make up the difference for a free flight by adding our Membership Miles from AMEX to whatever point total we each have. We did that last Thanksgiving when the flights were $224 each way. Make sure you take the time to join TrueBlue for each family member. It is worth it.

I'm not sure where you are in the NYC area, but we are traveling in August from Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY on Allegiant Air. We were able to get flights for $79.00 each way on non-stop flights. The only thing is they only fly to Sanford, so if you are using Magical Express they are not an option. Allegiant Air is definitely a no-frills airline but it's such a short flight for us I'm not really worried about the lack of amenities. I have heard good things about flying in and out of both airports so I hope we won't be disappointed.
