Fantasyland Expansion "Downsizing"

Thanks!:)

I knew construction had started on both of those, but was "concerned" they might turn into "Pop Century-The Legendary Years Part 2"!LOL:)Thanks for confirming that they will definitely be built.:)

Do you have any info on the other previously announced parts of FLE?Thanks.:)
Yes, I do. Alas ... it is not yet able to be shared. :3dglasses

are the fairies really that popular? :confused3
They do nothing for me. Their features are those of a fetal alcohol child. They are shapped oddly and quite frankly not very princessy looking to me. But I am not a 6 yr old girl anymore so maybe that audience finds them attractive.

Rather than a ton of meet and greet spots which this makeover seems to be, i wish they would add some more typical animatronic rides..no video movie rides.
maybe a water ride similar to POTC and Maelstrom..did Princess Tiana have a river storyline? I didnt see that movie yet, but that could be a perfect setting for a nice river ride. at the end of the ride to the side they could have her meet and greet

Well, given that Belle are Ariel are just NOW getting their attractions, I think Tiana is going to have to wait a while. Although what you describe sounds very cool, and an awful lot like parts of the POTC ride at DL!

And given that Princess & the Frog was a boxoffice disappointment, I don't see that happening.

Although any other themed water and/or animatronic ride would be great!

Then again ... they're not SUPPOSED to be princessy. They're fairies! :cutie:

And yes, they really are that popular. Not as popular as the marketing folks hoped they'd be, but clearly popular. But it's a "different strokes for different folks" thing. Some people would stand in line forever to get a photo with Jack Sparrow or Jack Skellington. I wouldn't stand in line for either. But put Stitch or Bolt out there, and I'll stand in the rain, sleet and sun!

Do you mean in addition to the Little Mermaid ride already under construction? I don't see them doing TWO water / animatronic rides in the same area at the same time.

How about catering to young MALES for a blessed change.

Gender Non-Specific.

Princesses on the other hand.
What, then, would you consider as something that caters SPECIFICALLY to boys?

Superheros, pirates, cowboys & Indians, racecars, scary stuff ... all of those things can be seen as gender non-specific.

By adding pirate, Jedi and CARS-type elements, Disney is trying to cater to boys, but it seems that little girls like all that stuff too. What would you consider to be boy-specific? What is the boy equivalent of princesses?

:earsboy:

1- Correct.

2- The rumblings are that far more than that would not be built.

It's still only rumor and speculation on any plans.

I agree. Everything that was announced to be included in Phase 1 is still proceeding as planned.

As for TDO, I'm sick and tired of them being blamed for EVERYTHING when the truth is is that they really don't have as much power as a lot of the folks on these forums like to assume.

I personally would be quite disappointed if they don't do Pixie Hollow as planned. My daughter LOVES Tinkerbell. I mean they must be popular if the line to see her and the other fairies is always ridiculously long!! At least most of the other princesses you can see at a character meal. If they would add a Tink and fairies character meal, I would be less disappointed if they didn't build the entire thing.

It's not just that princesses or pixies are girl-centric items. This can be overcome with a good ride/show. This is why no one is complaining about the Little Mermaid ride. Boys, girls, everyone is going to ride it.

Cars is the current closest equivalent for boys, but since it's getting a major ride at DCA it's not seen as overtly boy centric.

But if instead it was a Tow-Mater autoshop experience taking up all that space where guests could get up-to-their-elbows in oil and figure out what's causing that pinging sound with Lightning then most guests would be questioning it just as much as these ridiculous princess and pixie experiences.

As much as my dd6 loves the fairies (and I do mean LOVES them, obsessed might be a better word) I would honestly prefer that they do a really wonderful meet n' greet area and nix the plans for a playground, using the space instead for something that a greater number of guests would enjoy.

My understanding of the marketing of the Fairies was to have something for girls 5-ish and up when they ditch the princess phase and before they get to the HSM/Hannah Montana/etc. phase. If that's the case I don't think a large play area (as shown on FLE plans) would make much sense....I don't think boys would be too jazzed about a Pixie Hollow and I think the target audience is generally too old for the recommended ages for play in those types of areas.

According to Disney, almost every change they have ever made has been due to "guest feedback". Apparently there are a lot of people out there who wanted more generic food offerings, more generic merchandise, less stuff to do at night, etc.

I don't know who these people are. I never met them.

If you do meet up with these people, please punch them in the nose for me.

I agree.. Have a nice meet and greet and use the proposed play area for something that has broader appeal.

Well ... ridiculous to you. Magical to many many others. That's the thing. Princesses and fairies are making tons of money; Cars is not. I mean, Cars is doing well, but not at any level approaching princesses and fairies. Disney is going to put it's money where it's money is. Look at something like Pirates League -- an experience that Disney designed specifically to cater to boys. More girls go in there for pirate make-overs than boys do. Just as many girls want to be Jedi knights and participate in Pirate Tutorial as boys. If there was a Tow-Mater interactive auto shop, my guess is that there would be more little girls in there than boys. Little boys just aren't consumers at the same level. Until they are, the ridiculous princess and pixie experiences will continue.

You will have to go to DCA for that and enjoy CARS-LAND.

I wonder if the people in California are complaining about a whole Cars-land for boys and nothing for the girls?

Or maybe they should just sell video games in the parks. That seems to be the only thing little boys want to consume these days! :rotfl2:
