Fantasy Western April 28, 2012

Bumpin' it up to help any new additions locate this cruise thread. :sail:

Hopefully we'll start getting more cruisers on the thread as we're getting to the year earmark. In the meantime, it's fun to speculate on what the changes on the Fantasy will be. Since the steel and such were already being cut as the Dream was being built, it's not likely to be structural changes.

However, I wonder what themes they'll go with? Names of restaurants? I hope they do something similar to the Enchanted Garden with the lighting and the panels that change from day into night.

Any thoughts on what some of the changes and themes will be?

My guess is that Animator's Palate and Enchanted Garden will be the same as on the Dream. Also Palo and Remy the same. The different restaurant will be the one off the Atrium. Instead of Royal Palace it will be something else. And maybe Cabanas will be different too?

As to themes, it has to be something beautiful and elegant, but no clue what it will be :confused3

We loved the Dream, so I'm looking forward to comparing the two ships!

DCL's website already lists Animator's Palate, Cabanas, Enchanted Garden, Palo and Remy as the restaurants. Yes, the only one to speculate about would be what will take the place of Royal Palace. It's also possible that they could change the show in Animator's a bit since the description is vague, referring to "Disney characters" but not Crush specifically.

Nightclubs and lounges are listed as Bon Voyage, Cove Cafe, Currents, Meridian, Vista Cafe and Waves. They do NOT list 687, District Lounge, Evolution, Pink or Skyline. I'm guessing that THOSE may be different on the Fantasy.

Gives us something to look forward to finding out what the changes will be.

Shari - hope you are surviving the weather over your way. It passed us a little while ago and it was nasty! Gotta love Florida...

Yes - I'm hoping some of the clubs will be exciting. ;)

You know me. I'm still hoping for an ICE bar like the Epic has. Have to cool those hot flashes! LOL

The weather IS wild here. It's been going on since before daylight. Rain still pounding down. Typical Florida! Those who don't know: I'm a former and native Southern Californian. Florida weather is something I am rarely pleased with after more than eight years here. Heat, humidity, hurricanes, bugs, and SO much RAIN! But WDW and DCL being here makes up for it all! :beach:

We actually got a recorded message phone call from the county telling us a tornado had been spotted. This was after it died down (although it's picking up again).

I'm from NH originally, so I'm definitely not used to the long periods of heat and humidity and torrential rain. I DO enjoy living near WDW and near to the port, it makes it easier to bear.

An ice bar would be fun! Wouldn't it be fun if WE could design some of the elements on the ship?

So, tomorrow they are going to be announcing locations and itinerarys till the end of 2012!!! Rumor has it that they may give some info about the fantasy!!! Maybe the atrium statue or the main dining restaurant. We'll know tomorrow!!! Also, if any of you guys want to see a photo of the fantasy, you can go to the Meyer weft's website and view their webcam, it's coming along very quickly. Almost at the one year mark!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

So no new news on the fantasy:confused: we were hoping they were going to announce a cruise to Hawaii. Of course there is only one that's takes place tiihe day after our leaves!!!

OK...so I'm at the beach for spring break and may I just say that it is making me sooo ready for our cruise?? We are staying with a friend in their condo, and the back window overlooks the surf. You walk out the door and you're on the beach. <sigh> a whole year until this cruise...AGH, how will I ever make it???

We'll all be happy when it's this time next year - frantically figuring out what we're going to pack and being all excited about actually going!

Gahhhh!! We just booked yesterday :yay: and I've been scoping out this thread for a few weeks now. But, it's official, so I wanted to drop in! I'm kind of a closet lurker; I come back to post randomly around our vacations, but then end up leaving for awhile because it gets too depressing. :rotfl:

Anyway, our family of 4 will be joining in the fun in just over 1 year (seems os far away when you say it like that!). My husband & I did a land/sea package for our honeymoon in 2005, so this is our 2nd DCL cruise. With us will be our DD and DS (4 and almost 2 at time of sailing). Oh, and we're from a north suburb of Chicago....

I've read about the fish extenders on a few other threads, that seems like a really fun idea! Although I must confess, I'm not very creative, so I don't know just yet if we'd be participating (or even if we could cram everything in our luggage--I'm a compulsive overpacker ).

I'm so excited--I can't wait to see the changes between the Fantasy and the "classic" ships. My one concern is that I read the first few sailings on the Dream were a little rocky due to working kinks out (as to be expected). I just hope by that time, "new" sailings will be old hat to them, so we will have minimal, if any, disruptions. Ah well, we'll still be cruising, right??? :thumbsup2

Here's to a fantastic cruise!!

Welcome aboard! :goodvibes

Ah....packing. I'm going to learn to pack lighter by utilizing packing cubes. I hope anyway. Here's an article someone on the DIS wrote: http://www.ehow.com/how_5248194_pack-light-avoid-airline-fees.html

I know rolling the clothes can really make a difference. I went on a retreat one with a bunch of women. Most of us had two very large suitcases. Well, this one woman shows up with one of those small carry-on suitcases. Would you believe she had MORE clothes in there than we did?! :rotfl:

My friend Shari who is on this thread is a packing champion. I hope to emulate her abilities. :worship:

When we were on the Dream's Maiden Voyage, we did the Fish Extender for the first time. Brought a whole suitcase just with FE gifts :sad2: Of course it was nice to have all that room for the gifts we received :lmao: We plan on going a lot smaller this time around - of course, I expect a smaller FE group this time too!!!!

The packing challenge for me is the dressy clothes :confused3 Can't really roll or cube them - unless I can find the right dresses. Got a whole year left to shop :rotfl:

Some suitcases have a built-in section that is like a garment bag. I'm not totally sure what I will do about how to pack dressy clothes, but have a year to figure it out. I could possibly do a very lightweight garment bag. Last time I cruised I had two large bags and a carry-on. I'm hoping with packing correctly I can get that down to one suitcase (with the same amount of clothes) and a small carry-on. That way if I needed a garment bag - I could get a very lightweight one and it'd not be a hassle. (or take up too much room in Shari's car...:lmao:)

Yes our first cruise we brought a garment bag for my dresses and DH's jacket. That seems to be the best option! But if I could find "dressy" clothes that didn't need that treatment it would cut down on luggage!

We just put our dressy clothes in our regular suitcase...then, when we get there we send them out to be pressed. It is a minimal expense, and for us it's one of the "luxuries" that we build into our budget. It's 1/2 the cost of having them cleaned...I think last time it cost us around $15 or so total.

At the risk of sounding completely like a complete newbie, can someone run the theme nights by me? The first cruise we went on was a 4 night, so we didn't get the "full" cruising experience. I know there's a pirate night, and a "formal" night, but I don't really know much else. Do most people dress up in pirate attire, or in formal wear, for the theme nights? :confused3

TIA!!!

Packing: I am currently in Las Vegas. Packed for 6 days with nothing but a small wheeled carry-on designed to carry a laptop and minimal clothing (did not bring laptop as am using my smartphone), plus a small shoulder purse. No problem. Less is more and it's such a pleasure to travel light!

Theme nights: Formal & semi-formal night and Pirate night are about it. The other nights are "cruise casual," although I am someone who always dresses up for dinner in something I would not wear during the day on the cruise. Keep in mind that since the Fantasy is not sailing yet, theme nights and other things may not be the same. It's best to hold off any serious planning until DCL releases more info about the onboard experiences for the Fantasy.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if there was anything else. Of course we won't be doing any "serious" planning until we get closer, but that doesn't stop my mind from planning & packing theoretically  As for your packing light to Vegas -- :worship: I'd bring your bags for a weekend/overnight trip, but 6 days! Kudos to you....

It will be interesting to see what Fantasy-specific details will be released, if any, or if they will keep things similar to the Dream.
