The Walking Thread

Love bugs have been bad this year but they’re mostly annoying and harmless…unless you get a ton caked up on your car.
I had to look them up, and...ewww. I expected something like cute little ladybugs. But I'd jump if one of these landed on me! I'm rather glad we don't have them up here.

My parents came up with a fun but off-color name for them back when I lived in FL that I cannot share on here. To me, they look a lot like lightning bugs/fireflies...but without the fun illumination feature. I try to ignore them since I've heard that killing them can release more pheromones and attract more. Not sure of the truth behind that, but I did notice fewer last week when the kids near us stopped swatting them.

Great reading about the experiences.

r.e. bold -- been in SW FL since 1986 and the LB's are back but not in full intimacy  mode yet. DW came back from Sarasota yesterday and a warm hose to front of car was priority followed by Rain-X application.

Next week is some surgery on DW's left knee then likely followed with right knee and hoping that with my Cho-Pat Dual Action Knee Straps on both knees (bone on bone a long time) we can get back to walking and eventually 5K's to half marathon for us and also full M for me. The 2010 WDW Marathon Weekend 5K was our first venture into walking events and as Senior Walker's we got hooked.

Good Healthy FUN Walking to all.

If it ain't FUN it's work and us soon to be 76yo geezers don't work any more

Happy Thursday!!!

So, I guess it was later Tuesday night when I got the fun realization that I'm not sluggish because of race recovery. No...I picked up whatever crud has been making the rounds through DD17s school softball team. I hit the gym Tuesday night, right on schedule, but I could feel the early makings of a sore throat. I was very flat in my elliptical efforts and by the time I hit the circuit for lifting, I was feeling drained. I cut my weights and machines...eventually just giving up and heading home. Yesterday, I woke up early to walk but chose sleep. I got in a short walk in the evening on the gym treadmill. I went 2 miles before feeling like I was ready to rip my hair out with the monotony of it all. I followed it with eight machines for lifting but still cut back on amount being lifted. This morning, I had an early start and did get in 4 miles, but I changed/cut my route because I didn't want to be too far from home if I started feeling bad. It was a pretty boring route, as well as being dark, misty and webby. Still, with the way all of the biting insects have been coming out at sunrise, I'll take it! I did come home to a very angry whistling duck up in one of our trees.

Well...... according to inside edition video.... you would be a decathlon athlete.... they were swarming on folks...no mono to mono challenge

TiggerTigger, I commend you for your efforts! I agree that the treadmill is boring and monotonous. I have an elliptical and it is the same.
I have finally regained my strength, but the weather has been terrible. It has turned to rain and cold, temp highs in the 40s. 😩 Ugh. I am so ready for summer.

What's funny is that I'm not like that with the elliptical. Although, I rarely do that for more than 30 minutes and it's usually more of a challenge as to how far/fast I can go withing that prescribed timespan. It's odd because it's another thing I do at the gym, but the time on there flies for me compared to a treadmill.

Speaking of which, I have not walked YET today and it may be treadmill and elliptical later. I put out clothes in hopes of going out in the rain, but it all hinged on whether or not the weather was severe. We were already under flood watch, so I knew it could be risky. Sometime between 3 and 4 am, I was woken up by thunder which was later followed by the sounds of high wind and hail. While the rain never let up (and still hasn't...and probably won't for most of the day- expecting nearly 3" for the rest of the day) the next round of t-storms came through right when I'd be walking. Due to the flood advisory, I wasn't going to go out to the gym either...not to mention that I'd get drenched just trying to open our driveway gate and go to and from my vehicle. DD17 had to go to school around 7, so I just hung out to make sure she's good. Her truck sits higher than all of ours with the highest engine air intake as well. So, I wasn't too worried if it was just minor street flooding...which I don't think it's even that bad. Nonetheless, this is the current radar for the north side of the Houston area...so, I'm staying put for a while.

DD is supposed to have a softball game tonight, but I'm pretty certain it's going to be postponed. We're one of the few teams that didn't bump up games to Wednesday/Thursday in anticipation of this weather. I suspect it's due in part to the other team relying solely on their senior pitcher, who pitched three games last week and our coach wanting the pressure of prom to get to their team. Their prom is tomorrow night, most of the girls have already done their tanning and have hair and makeup Saturday. So, the urgency to get to that could easily get in their heads. Strategy! Our prom was several weeks ago. Either way, I don't think we're playing today which means long gym time tonight and maybe even a splish splashy walk if the severe stuff subsides. Tomorrow's walk distance will hinge on game time. Supposed to be 10am but may be delayed for the sun to better dry things out. It's going to be low 50s in the morning, which is extremely cold for May for us. Heck, we're not getting out of the 60s today...when it's been around 90 all week!
