Fantasy Western April 28, 2012

Not that it does not sound like a great idea but with 3 kids and 3 adults, it is going to be enough to know I have packed right...lol

I will use the knowledge and maybe explain it to the kids and use it for the next cruise (hoping to continue the tradition!!). ;)

Thank you for the reply..it helps me understand a bit more of what is going on!

We'll be on the cruise and can't wait! Just 3 months from today, woo hoo.
The two of us Brian (40), Marsha (42) and our son Duffy (18 months) ;), stateroom unknown at this time :(

Hi Sherri

Thank you for the invite. I see you're sailing Jan, 26, 2013. We were going on that one until today, we switched that cruise over to the Mediterranean cruise. We'll see you in April though!

What port adventures are people thinking about doing?

In Grand Cayman I would highly recommend getting to stringray city. I did Stringray city when I was younger on a HAL cruise and it was the most amazing experience ever. We did the stingray adventure at CC and for me having done stingray city before, it was the biggest disappointment ever but my friends loved it because they had never been to Grand Cayman before. I'm excited for them to have a real stingray experience!

In Cozumel, the geology minor in me would love to do the caverns but my Dad took me for my first dive in Cozumel and being sentimental since he is no longer with us, I thought it would be neat to do this dive location with my DH who became PADI certified on our honeymoon so that we could dive together.

I am also hoping there will be diving in Costa Maya. My husband has heard of my infamous "Costa Maya Thanksgiving Day '05 Dive" incident since the day he met my family and is hoping I will re-live some of it for him, which will never happen since I am no longer a 21 yo who can drink like a champion fish. I wish we were here longer than four hours. Last time I was here it was for 8 hours and we still almost missed the boat. I haven't been to this port since hurricane Dean did it's major damage in '07 and I would like to see the changes.

And finally I am hoping to go parasailing at CC and I'm hoping I can talk the DH into going with me. He doesn't skydive so I am hoping this is a nice compromise. But since a certain supercruiser420 told him it was to scary for him to go through with it, he is now scared. Maybe the wives can hit the skies and leave the boys on the beach!

Anyother divers out there?

I have read different things about the dress code at dinners. Some people stay casual the whole week and others go all out for the semi and formal nights. Do any cruising regulars know how many people participate in dressing up?

Please let me know how you like the Hawaii cruise! I wanted to book that, but this being our first cruise and we don't know how much we're going to like it, my husband doesn't want to book. Do you book your next cruise while on board, to get discounts?

This is THE most CONTROVERSIAL topic on the Dis, bar none! The OFFICIAL word from DISNEY CRUISE LINE is HERE on our cruise website. I and some others I know adhere to DCL's requested "dress code" out of respect for their request and for other guests who choose to do so. Seeing people (including the servers) dressed up in an elegant dining room atmosphere (except the more casual Animator's) contributes to a more special experience for those of us who do "dress for dinner."

BUT the most popular opinion here on the Dis SEEMS to be: "This is my vacation and I'll wear what I like!" It is entirely up to you whether to dress up or go casual. There is no way to predict "how many" will be one way or the other. It depends on who happens to be sailing. ;)

Honestly, I don't really recall what people outside of our cruise group wear for dinners. I feel it is more important for your group to be wearing the same dress code than it is for the rest of the ship. Everyone in our group enjoys getting dressed up and I know every male in our group owns a tux. My husband will wear at least a jacket and tie every night. The only time I allow him to wear his disney novelty ties are on the ship and he takes full advantage of it! I personally enjoy taking photos of everyone dressed up. My 8 yo nephew is the only one who complains about getting dressed up and its out of pure laziness and the kids won't be joining us on the trip. I think it comes down to what you want to make out of your dinners. I was raised in a formal family and getting dressed for dinners was normal for us and I still enjoy it. I personally would rather be overdressed than under!

:thumbsup2 Me too! Ever since moving to Florida, I don't often have much opportunity to dress up as this state seems even more casual than Southern California (where I'm from). So I really enjoy doing so on the ship. :goodvibes

Hello everyone! Just checking in again. I'm glad to see that my friend Emily (WVUrunner) is starting to post!!! I'm converting all my friends to Disney nerds!!! I think I finally figured out the theme of the fish extender gifts and how I want to do them...I think it's pretty cool, but all you guys will be the judge. It's so cool to see the ship finally moving around!! Can't wait to see her for the first time! The shows looks amazing. There are a couple of videos on YouTube showing off the new Disney's wishes show. The music is amazing and I'm glad their using characters that haven't been seen in a while...just 3 months to go!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Hi, I think dressing up is very important! It's part of the whole experience. When do you get a chance to get dressed up like that so many times in one weeks and take photos together as a group or family?? I get very excited when I have the chance to wear one of my good suits and especially my tux....and any day I get to wear a Disney novelty tie is a good day....kind of like WVUrunner, my wife limits my Mickey tie use to the cruise and to California grill!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

What port adventures are people thinking about doing?

We are dividing our excursions between my anthropology minor interests and my Biologist husband's. In Grand Cayman we hope to book the Discover Native Cayman and Saltwater Forest. The chance to see a mangrove forest is irresistible. The Chacchoben Maya Ruins excursion in Costa Maya is our first choice for this port. It is a given that we will visit an archeological site on this cruise. In Cozumel, we aren't quite sure, but are leaning toward the Atlantis Submarine Expedition. My DH finds viewing the underwater environment to be very appealing.

That or when she joined her husband challenged her to try and post more than Jon does! The competitor in me can never turn down a challenge. And remember, in order for me to count as one of your Disney nerd friend converts, I would have to be your friend first! Just because you text me more than your wife does, doesn't mean we are friends. Hope this helps your clinical low self esteem we discussing earlier.

Well, I thought about doing the "Mysticism of 2012 through a Temascal Ceremony" until I got to the part in the description where it said, "Experience a sensation of heat, humidity and total relaxation."

If I wanted THAT, I'd stay home! :rotfl2:

kind of like WVUrunner, my wife limits my Mickey tie use to the cruise and to California grill!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Because your wife and I have style! And we are forced to patrol what the two of you wear because if we don’t and aren’t there when you get dressed, the two of you show up in matching Disney shirts. Michael was counting how many matching shirts the two of you had the other day. Maybe if I borrow Jamie’s bridesmaid dress for the cruise, Corinne, Sam and I can all match on Formal night! And I am well aware the two of them informed me that they wouldn’t be caught dead in the dress again, even though Corinne picked it out…..

I don't know, I have this amazing friend that takes care off all that stuff for me! I just give him the CC # and show up. Our ressies are linked, correct?

Do you have my fish extender thingy from the last cruise I was on? And our message boards?

Also, you missed the oppertunity to point out an error in one of my posts. I'm so disappointed in you..

I'm glad to hear people are dressing up. With young-ish kids, we don't get this opportunity very much any more!

I agree with the above poster.. when do we get a chance that often to dress up...especially with little kids! We go the middle route tho... on formal nights we do slacks and dress shirts for the boys and dresses for the girls. Semi-formal nites we do polos and khaki's for the boys and skirts for the girls. The girls actually love the whole getting dressed again for dinner routine.
