Fantasy Vibration Issues Fixed?

The issue I saw was on the St. Thomas to CC segment, it occurred all the time they were going 21/22 knots. In the Buena Vista theater panels were rattling, in The Tube the TV screens were shaking, in the rear elevator lobby the light fixture was shaking.
So this appears to be an issue with the rear of the ship. Is it noticeable mid-ship or towards the front?

We just spent 8 nights in aft stateroom 9172. We haven’t cruised in the aft before, so not sure how bad the vibration was before. Our first night was pretty rough. Lots of things rattling in the room. And strong vibrations in the cabin when sailing around 20 knots.

Maintenance added weather stripping to stop the rattles. We ended up liking the constant vibration - made for excellent sleeping.
Funny, we had a forward cabin on this cruise and it was probably the smoothest cruise we’ve ever had. So much so that we actually missed the ship movement rocking us to sleep 😂
We did notice the vibration in Animators and in Palo, though.

Has anyone recently been in the aft section of the Fantasy? I read that the bad vibration issues were supposedly fixed during the 2020 dry dock, but haven't seen any 2021 reports from people staying in the aft rooms confirm/deny!

I tentatively am staying in Fantasy 8674 2023 and it's basically the butt of the ship, and I worry about the horrible things I've read about the vibration issues on here o_O

Thank youuuu~
Hi Lilias,
We are cruising in cabin 8674 for a 7 night Western Caribbean and wondered if you did cruise in that cabin ( you mentioned tentatively). I was curious if you felt the vibrations and also curious about the inside cabins if their doors were across from this cabin or down a separate hallway.
any info would be greatly appreciated…Tim

This is an older thread so you may not get a response from the person you quoted.

I have sailed the Fantasy five times and will again in Dec. Since our experience before it was supposedly fixed, we had an aft cabin with severe and prolonged vibrations.

I’ve read recent reports of aft cabins with vibrations and I’m not taking a chance. I’ve made sure that we’re anywhere except in the aft section.

You may be one of the lucky people that can sleep through it, we’re not. We’re paying top dollar and shouldn’t have to accept a flawed cabin.

Thanks for the info Fastpasser. Yeah I figured since it was old I might not but hoped that since they were cruising 2023 they might still be on the boards and could shed some light. We booked a few weeks ago so our choices were very limited and had the choice of a 5th deck forward above the performance theatre and last time we had that the practicing to the wee hours with the loud music, mainly the bass, kept us up, or this 8th deck room. we can sleep pretty soundly (we travel with a sound machine) and hoping being on 8th deck the vibrations will be minimal compared to lower deck. I keep checking every day to see what else opens up in our price range.
thanks again

I know it’s not aft, it’s midship, but I was in 8584 3 weeks ago and I felt vibrations when I was in bed, I couldn’t lean back against the headboard or my body vibrated, I managed to sleep through it but I’m not sure I’d actively choose that room again

We always bring quality ear plugs so I can block out sound but not body shaking vibrations.

Good strategy, the further away the better.

On our cruise earlier this year we went to the Meridian and Palo on deck 12 and we felt moderate vibrations even there. Probably sleepable.

Wow, that’s surprising considering you were that far forward.

We were on a 7 night cruise in October 2022 on the Fantasy. We stayed in an aft cabin that was almost mid-ship (on deck 7? I think). I remember thinking since I was taking a first-time cruiser with me, I wanted as close to the middle as I could get and I was pretty satisfied with the veranda guarantee cabin we got assigned to.

The vibrating was so bad it woke him up while he was sleeping. In restaurants, in lounges, while walking, in the cabin, daytime, nighttime - we couldn't escape it. It's worth noting that we were often in the adults area of the ship, which happens to be aft. It was especially awful even high up in Palo and Remy, which totally ruins the mood.

Anyways, it was bad enough that I'm not going on the Fantasy again. I actively avoid the ship when shopping around.

I just avoid the aft section on the Fantasy and now the Dream.

If you avoid DCL ships that vibrate as much as the Fantasy you’ll have to add the Dream. I found out the hard way a few weeks ago, lost 1-1/2 out 7 nights sleep.

Oh no!!! The dream as well?! That's heart breaking to me, I was really hoping to do more on the dream when craving that bigger ship feel but not wanting to splurge on the Wish!

Now that the Dream is doing longer itineraries that require traveling at higher speeds between ports that are further apart than was the case when it was only cruising the Bahamas for three- and four-night cruises, aft end vibration issues might be more apparent. We noticed them in the aft restaurants on a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise in April.

When they put the pedal to the metal, we got the vibrations. The Wish was fine.

Exactly!

We sailed on the Dream in March and had an extended balcony aft (like by the flag and right above the word “Dream“ so we were as far aft as you can be). While the balcony was great with great views the vibration was significant when pulling into ports and the last night booking it back to Miami. 2/5 nights on our cruise it woke us up, and the last night we could not go back to sleep from 1 am onward. It seriously was like a mini earthquake with stuff rattling around. Though DD slept through it fine!

The Wish has a totally different type of engine, doesn't it? And the new-ness on its side. If the Wish stated showing up with the same kind of vibration issues I would be canceling reservations.

Hmmm... so Fantasy vibrations still an issue. Now it's also an issue for the Dream. I saw another older thread talking about the Wonder having the sand kind of issues. What about the Magic?

It's such a hard thing to explain without being on the ship. I know the ships rumble and vibrate. The Fantasy was so much worse than any of the other ships in my experience. That's the level of rumbling and vibrations I want to avoid.

😔 now getting increasingly nervous about the Magic itinerary we have booked next July

Yes, the Wish uses Azipods instead of the conventional shaft and propeller system. The new system is said to be less susceptible to producing vibrations.

I didn’t notice any vibrations on the Wish but I don’t recall where our cabin was located.

We were in 9648 in March and it was exactly the same. We could sleep through it, but it really irritated my wife at times. Particularly when just trying to sit in bed before sleeping. It was pretty strong. It reminded me of driving on a washed out dirt road at times and was even distracting when eating in the aft. But it wasn't consistent. I would avoid an aft room if possible in the future, but wouldn't let it prevent me from cruising on the Fantasy if that was my only option.

We were somewhat aft on the Magic last year and it was nothing at all like the vibrations in the Fantasty, for what it is worth. Not even close.

I was very aft on the Wish (7192) and only noticed vibration when they were presumably using the stabilizers (like pulling into port). No vibration when just cruising along (though, as others have commented, the Wish does short trips so doesn't have to move at as high of speeds as the Fantasy [and now Dream] do, so it's not a 100% apples to apples comparsion.
