Today was a bitter sweet day - on the one hand we had to get off the ship we had come to love over the past week but on the other hand we were going to be spending the next 4 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which we also love.

We got up at 7:00 and after a final check around the room went down to Enchanted Garden for breakfast at 8:00. After breakfast we said goodbye to our table mates and to Noel and Jelena and by 8:45 we were off of the ship.

We found our cases easily enough, got through customs quickly and a Budget shuttle arrived just as we got outside. We waited until a few more people got on and then we were on our way to the Budget rental office at Port Canaveral.

Once again I went to take out the credit card, which I thought I had put with my driving licence but it wasn’t there. I couldn’t find it again so I took Dad's and went into the office. When I got to the desk I was asked how many of us there were and how many bags we had - unfortunately we had too many bags as the lady was going to upgrade us to a Mustang free of charge, but there was no way we would have fitted everything in so we settled for a Nissan Versa which was parked outside. I suddenly realised that I might have put the slippery credit card in my planning folder and when I checked it was indeed in there and were on our way - but it wasn’t the last time we would be at that office - more about that later.

By 10:45 we were passing under the arch and within a few more minutes we had arrived at Animal Kingdom Villas. I knew that I would need to show photo ID to check in so I went to take out my driving licence but it wasn't in the envelope with the paper counterpart. I couldn't find it anywhere so I used my passport instead and decided to check my bag properly once we got to the room. We checked in and were assigned room 5131, which I was surprised to find was all ready for us to go to. We had left the cases in the car so we just went up to the room to make sure everything was OK and then, although we had planned to go to EPCOT we just went downstairs for a drink and decided to do Wal-Mart and Downtown Disney this afternoon and then go to EPCOT after dinner.

After having a drink we went and got the bags from the car and took them upstairs. I searched all through my hand luggage bag but my driving licence wasn't in there so I decided that I must have left it at the Budget office. We went off to Downtown Disney and had a wander around World of Disney, the Christmas shop and Art of Disney and then went off to Wal-Mart to get our supplies for the next few days.

We were back at the room at around 3:30 and I phoned Budget who confirmed that I had dropped my licence in the parking lot and somebody had handed it in so I made arrangements to go and collect it tomorrow - this holiday was not going well at all!

One of our traditions is to eat at Sweet Tomatoes on our first full day in Orlando, so at 5:30 we went back out and drove up to the one on International Drive, which I prefer to the new one at Crossroads. We filled up on salad, soup, pasta and brownies and then came back down to WDW and in to EPCOT, arriving at 7:30.

We had a quick wander around Mousegear and then went round to our usual spot for Illuminations, the peninsula between UK and France.

I've seen Illuminations so many times now but it never gets old and I still get goosebumps at the end. There was something different about it tonight though - the flame barge wasn't working and the globe was already out before the show started and didn't move.

After Illuminations we went back to the room and off to bed ready to go and pick up my driving licence and go on to Animal Kingdom tomorrow.

Day 11

Oh dear. I think you need to invest in a man bag for your next trip so you can hopefully keep everything safe. Thank goodness you didn't disembark at Miami :rotfl2:

Hi David

Really enjoying your trip report. Can I ask whether it is cheaper to buy from budget and then rehire after the cruise?

David, you are becoming a bit of a liability. You definitely should have taken me with you, I would have gotten you organised ;)

What view did you have at AKV? We really loved it when we stayed there - in fact, I'm thinking of going back next October before our cruise. It will depend whether Grand Floridian DVC is open by then and whether we could get in there instead.

Hi David

It was for us. I knew we would only need a basic car for the pre-cruise so I booked a compact which worked out to about £20. For the after cruise I wanted something bigger so I went for an intermediate, which was £150. I think an intermediate for the two weeks worked out to £200-odd, plus there would have been parking on top. I'm not sure how it would work out if you were doing a 3 or 4 day cruise in the middle of a stay.

I don't know what was wrong with me on this trip Joh, I'm not normally that disorganised. The ladies behind the desk had already been laughing at me for managing to 'lose' the car keys so goodness knows what they thought about me losing my licence - they were very nice about it to my face though. ;)

We only had a value studio because of a lack of points so it was a car park view, but that was fine for a few nights. Out of choice I would normally go for a savannah view.

Another great day David, love your pics from the Flower & Garden Festival. I never tire of IllumiNations either ::yes::

Oh David what a nightmare you've had with your license, keys etc!!!! it must of been all the excitement :rotfl2:

I love Illuminations & dont think you can ever see it too many times ::yes::

poor you, leaving your licence behind.
we all have moments like that :goodvibes

You keep having these senior moments :rotfl2: what a fab room at AKL

Oh dear David, at least you stay calm when you mis place things, I would be a nightmare in a total panic!! Great photos at Epcot:)
