We are on the Fantasy that leaves port at 3:45. We have early dinner seating. My question is what time will the sail away party end. I believe our seating is at 5:30. First DCL cruise and we don't want to miss anything. Thanks! :wave2:

When we sailed we had plenty of time for the party and to get ready for dinner..

Unless your cruise is different. Typically all aboard is 3:45 and the ships sails at 5:00
The lifeboat drill will be at 4:00

Weedy, I just went back to our documents and it does departure 3:45. I thought that was a strange time also.

That's interesting. What time is all aboard listed? I wonder if they will do the sail away party when you "sail away". If so that would give you plenty of time before dinner

... sail away pastry ....

They prefer to have the Sail Away Pastry before the Sail Away Party usually.

:lmao: :p

ETA; This cruise indicates all aboard at 3:45 fwiw. Sail Away will be around 5pm like all the others IMO.

Oops it's hard typing on the phone. Stupid spell check.

Pastry sound really good right now. LOL. I don't know what time the all aboard is. I will check. Let's guess it sails at 5:00. How long will the sail away party last? Our dinner is early.

So if you are first seating you basically have to choose between the Sail-away Party or making the MDR? Also does DCL free or discounted drinks during the SAP? First Disney cruise on the fantasy in 109 days!

All aboard is 3:45pm
Muster drill is at 4pm, lasting max 30 minutes, due to the no shows/late comers.
Sail Away Party begins at 4:30 generally and last 45 minutes or so.
You normally have time to muster, mad dash to sail away party for position, see ship start moving and sail down channel at 5:00- 5:30 generally.
Then dash to cabin to change clothes for dinner if desired.
Then begin journey to your assigned MDR for dinner at 5:45

A bit busy and active, but easily doable. The only issue is if there is a delay leaving port. Then you could miss something, but it won't be muster. ;)
Odds are it will be seeing the vessel travel the channel out to sea from the upper decks.

HTH

Thanks Bear3412, that's just what I wanted to know. I went to the DCL site and it does say depart at 5:00. Our docs say 3:45. So excited, our first cruise with DCL. We are on the April 2015 sail. :cool1:

we have had time to shower between the sail away party and dinner. Yep, we don't spend a lot of time up on deck 10 watching us leave port and sail down the channel, but we do get to watch from our porthole on deck 2. And that is with 3 or 4 adults. The females know that there's no time to dilly dally!! -- get in, get showered, blow dry & brush, quick makeup --- you look fine!! and make it to dinner.

Just a heads up......

Onboard means something completely different than sail away time.

On board is when they stop letting people on the ship (345). When you actually leave port (sail away) will be 5pm.

4pm will be your lifeboat drill (which usually takes about 20-30 mins depending on how rowdy people are and if no one is trying to hide from the CMs

The Sail away party will start around 430 and usually is about 35-40 mins.

The ship will actually start pulling away right around 5pm. This is dependent on the weather, the other ships in port getting out on time, Port Authority finishing any inspections, etc.

Most people will attend the sail away, watch leave port (takes about 10-15mins) and still have time to get to their rooms and get ready.

We usually try and get into our room before the lifeboat drill so that we can unpack a bit and get our clothes laid out. Sometimes I will even start getting ready then (i.e. get makeup on or get dressed). that way there is no rushing

***Just remember the first night is cruise causal. You don't have to have your formals on. Go with a cute sundress and your hair in a cute ponytail. That is our go to.

ITA. We get onboard early (11:30), hit the pool area until the room is open (1:30), then go change, rest on the verandah and get ready for dinner. Do the drill at 4 then head down to the sail away party. We have never been rushed to head to dinner as we are already ready for dinner. After the sail away party we have time to meander around, take pictures, etc.

Also, dinner is at 5:45 which means you can get there at 5:50 and walk straight in. There is absolutely no need to stand in line or get there early- you already have assigned seating. I never understood the people that get there 15 mins early and stand there and wait.

Yep your lifeboat drill will be at 4 and you will not sail until after that is completed.

Also does DCL free or discounted drinks during the SAP?

Alcoholic? Nope, nothing free. There is the drink of the day which is about a buck off but you can get that every day. If you buy the special glass (it's plastic) you can have it refilled at the regular price but it holds slightly more beverage. If you don't want the special glass make sure you ask for the drink of the day without the glass. Go to the bar and buy it rather than taking it from the servers circling the decks. (Have seen complaints on here from passengers who took the drinks from servers thinking they were free and did not like getting hit with a bill - which included both the drink and the special glass)

You get some free drinks at the captain's reception on formal night. If you're DVC you can get them at the DVC gathering.

I don't have little kids anymore ... but I am still usually down on the Goofy Pool dancing like no ones watching (trying to keep up with the cruise staff -yea right-) -- but everyone around me knows that I am (thud, Thud, THUD!!) Even in cooler temperature times of the year, I work up a good sweat so a shower after the party is a must.
