**Fantasy Becomes Reality** Group--5/19/2012 (INDEX/ROLE CALL, PAGE 1--ENTRY 1)

Glad to hear the trip was a success. Hopefully, Sabrina will adjust quickly to the braces.

We plan on shopping this weekend for clothes for the cruise. I need a formal dress and my DH needs a suit. My boys will be going to the kids club for dinner, but now Matthew (my 8 yr) has decided he wants to dress up and go to the formal dinner with us, so he needs something to wear too.

Thanks! It is amazing how quickly the change has become a new "norm". It doesn't hurt that we are paying her to wear the daytime brace :scared1: (the nighttime brace was a given).

So - reading your last statement - your kids are eating in the club every night except formal? Have you done that before? Since I am traveling without my husband (but with such great friends like all of you), I think I am keeping them with me but would love to know how that works so I know it is an option. :rolleyes1

Funny you ask. I had asked our TA to make our ADR at Ohana, and she discouraged us because of our kids (youngest 11). This was back in December, but my memory is that she said the food was eclectic... We chose Tusker House on our own, hopefully will fit the family better.

What is Tusker House? Am thinking I will cancel Ohana. If Sabrina were the price of a child, would keep it but having trouble spending $35 on her meal if she won't eat anything but chicken finger type food.

"Officially" got the stuff to make our FE gifts!!! Started out one way, but decided on a totally different route. Someone on our last FE did these really cute Christmas tree ornaments with our cruise info and I was going to try to do something similar. Apparently I missed the memo that I am NOT quite that artistically gifted ;) So-- it's off to plan B :)

The other adventure for today? We bought construction paper to make our cruise countdown paper chain! I wasn't going to start it with about 500 links... 77 seems MUCH more reasonable! Time to go get "artsy," haha :)

Ha Ha :rotfl: You sound like me AND given that, I intend to make my first "mock" FE this week to see if it will work. If not, then, um, yes, back to the drawing board as I am also not quite so crafty. :goodvibes

I should really make a link! Maybe I will have Kai do that today!!!

Hey!

I hate to do this to you, but I needed to add a celebration to our spreadsheet :) We are celebrating Alex's birthday on Friday (the 25th). His birthday is actually the next week (if I'm totally honest) but he gets so excited about everyone's birthday and trying to make it special I wanted to try to surprise him. Alex has mild Asperger's and he's had a pretty rough year of it in school this year (rough teacher ;)) so I'm trying to make this trip as big of an "end of the year,""we made it," "yay it's summer," "you have LOTS to celebrate this birthday!" kind of trip :cheer2: If you have a chance to add it, that would be great. If not, it's ok :)

Thanks!

Woo hoo! Celebrations are fun!!! :cool1:

I don't know if it was the christening, the fact the Fantasy is on its way to PC, or the fact that our cruise is just around the corner - but I am starting to get SO PUMPED-UP for the cruise!!! :donald::donald::donald:

I booked on opening day (silver), and it was easy to not think about it, because it was SO FAR AWAY (October, 2010). But now, I am officially at the point of

I have been scouring the boards for each new piece of info the fantasy - I cant wait for the first few cruises to get back & cruisers start posting about their experiences.

On the down side, I'm pretty sure my productivity level will be in the toilet for the next "two months, two weeks, and two days" according to my ticker! :donald::donald::donald:

I agree - hard to think we booked this cruise back in October 2010. Even more amazing is how few folks have dropped out. I wonder how many on our list are no longer joining but also no longer active on the board?

Ok - beautiful weather and really should get outside today so pulling away from TRs and the Cruise Forum board.

Happy Sunday everyone!!!

Actually was thinking how horrible I am with names versus DIS IDs.

I know there are many here who would prefer to be known by only the DIS name but for those of you out there who are looking to meet up during the cruise and are comfortable, could you start using your real name after your comment? It would help to know who is who.

I know Tony and Sue! Otherwise, have to go look things up - yes, am officially that old now.

Thanks!

Mati :hippie:

On our cruise last year, our kids enjoyed the dining rooms, especially Animator's Palate. They had no problem with dressing up and were entertained by servers and everything around them. We had the late dining, so after they were done around 9:15 pm, the CM's would take them to the club/lab. It worked out great for our family and that's our plan for this cruise. They had fun ordering their food and desserts!
I'd be interested to know how food in the club works also.:)

We would like to meet everyone during the cruise and maybe even before, in the terminal!
We are happy to hear that Sabrina is adjusting to her new braces!!! Ashley is very excited and ready to try WordsWithFriends. We will take a look at it tonight.:yay:

Mati - my boys usually eat in the club except Pirate night and Animator's Palette. They have more fun in the kids' club and DH and I get to have a nice dinner. On our last cruise we were with another family of 4 and all 4 of the kids (ours and theirs) were in the club for dinner. Just worked out for us that we had a great time with another couple. Although seeing the cups with our kids names on them that first night was a little disheartening. We always made sure the boys had dinner before going to the club, just in case they missed the dinner call in the club.

I like the idea of signing the posts-- I'm going to have a lot of studying to do on that first page. I'm going to apologize now-- I am HORRIBLE with names!!!! Absolutely horrible, so I'm sorry!!!!!

For those interested in a "meet..." Whenever we do get to do it (I don't know what good times are b/c I know there are a lot of people doing the allears group too), would anyone be interested in a hometown exchange? On our last cruise, anyone who wanted to brought a little something from home (I think the limit was $15 or something) and put it in a pile and got their name in the drawing when they turned in a gift. Everyone who brings something gets something from somewhere else. It was fun :) It would also give people who aren't in the FE a chance to join in on a "mini" exchange :) Anyone interested?

Well-- the boys and I (emphasis on "I" as their attention span was not so vast) made our cruise countdown chain! It's pretty long, but it's a fun reminder of how close we're getting! So exciting!!!!

See ya real soon!

We did a countdown chain last year, the boys loved it! Thanks for reminding me.

Good luck to all who get to book excursions, Palo etc. tonight. Hopefully everyone will be able to get what they want.

Kim

Thanks so much for the heads-up info!!!! Pullin' the late night check-in right now!!!! SO excited!!! I've got RedBull, Mickey Ears, my computer and lots of good advice...now all I need is for the clock to MOVE IT!!!!

We did a Countdown chain this year!! We atarted it at our 100 Day party! We have a Giant Mickey head at the top with red and yellow chains with a number for each day! Each morning the boys can't wait to rip off another piece!!! We are going to put the Mickey head on our door when we get on OUR (tee hee) Fantasy!! Man, I am so excited an wound up tonight!! I'm like the little kid in the Disney commercials!!!!! :woohoo::cool1::banana::cheer2::yay:

Jen princess:

I would really be interested in a Mini exchange...just need ideas on what to do.....the only reason we didn't to the FE was because I felt really uncreative and thought I might not have enough time. Since this is our 1st Disney cruise, I wasn't sure what to do/bring/buy/make etc.....we have done a lot of other cruise meets on Cruise Critic...but I didn't want to let down other cruisers with our lousy FE gifts.....If we did a mini exchange- or maybe this is what the FE is....I would love to bring some cool stuff that we get down here like Crab boil, hot sauce, tabasco candies, bug spray (lol)..... you know, southern stuff! (I'm sure that's what you just ment by the home town exchange....:scared: uugghhhh...yeah I know..foot in mouth, hello me!)

I am really, really, really bad with names too! Once I have seen someone face to face I remember them...but names ohhhh no!

I would be interested in an on-board meet too...although not to sure if hubby would want to...he's very quiet and shy....but I am sure the boys and I can give him some nap time and we can meet everyone! Lord help you all!!

ok, well I am sure I have annoyed most of you now with my rantings......I'll try to behave, but I really can't promise anything! Sorry! :rolleyes1 So glad we have such a great group!! I'll be sending pictures of my Wacky family to be posted soon, so you can put a face to the craziness...that way you will know who to walk away from on the cruise!!! Better safe than sorry!!!:thumbsup2

Do you know what days they do the cooking classes? Or what they are called in the newsletter? My DH is a Chef and my youngest DS just did a cooking class party for his B-day...a very nice CM at Disney told me about the classes but didn't have many more details other than that they are usually before a meal once or twice during the cruise...any info you have would be great! Thanks so much!

Definitely have to make sure we celebrate Alex's birthday! I have a 19 year old nephew with Asperger's so I have seen the challenges they face, especially at school.

Well-- my inner Mickey clock woke me up at a quarter-til-midnight. I, of course, took that as a sign that I should at least *try* for a coveted brunch spot. No go. Here's hoping that one of our FBR-ers got one (if they even opened any :confused3)

Barb

Thanks Barb-- he'll be so excited :) He asked me awhile back if we could change our cruise to the next week so he could have his b-day on the ship and was pretty disappointed that this wasn't an option ;) He's mild so it's not a huge deal on the surface, but its to the point where a lot of people just write him off as "the bad kid." We started this awesome counselor last summer and we're trying some new things out with him (sensory fun, GF diet, lots of social stories and situation planning...). He just tested for ADHD and goes to see the doc on Tuesday, so we're hoping to be able to figure out additional ways help him feel a little less overwhelmed and frustrated when it comes to fitting in as he's now at that stage where he, and his classmates, are feeling the little differences. Kids can be SO mean these days and he's just now noticing that. This cruise couldn't come at a better time for him. Well, it *could* be NOW, but it would need to last to the end of the year! For now, it gives him that "light at the end of the tunnel," and I couldn't ask for more as a mom :)

Hi Mati :) ~ I'm Kathy. I think you "may" already know my name and those of my crazy travel companions .

 Yes, I know you Kathy  Considering you will be my next door cabin neighbor AND I am dining with you and your crew, I better know you! :goodvibes Now, can't wait to see you again in person!

Grazyna

Hi Grazyna! Glad to hear - my kids were ok but then Kai was only 4 on our last cruise and it was a bit too much for him to sit still. :scared1: I think they will be much easer to handle this time at 7 and 10! :goodvibes At least I hope so considering I don't have my DH to back me up. I do have some pretty good alternate male Grandpa/Fatherly types on this ship I can rely on so that will help! I love the DIS boards and the friendships made here! :grouphug: Can't wait to meet you all!! (yes, a little bit hyper now!) :dance3:

We would like to meet everyone during the cruise and maybe even before, in the terminal!
We are happy to hear that Sabrina is adjusting to her new braces!!! Ashley is very excited and ready to try WordsWithFriends. We will take a look at it tonight.

Grazyna

Thanks Grazyna! I told Sabrina about Ashley and she is very excited to meet her. We are staying at the Hyatt at MCO the night before (arrive around 7pm) in case you guys are around there. Then DCL transport to the port hopefully first thing in the morning. Not sure what we are wearing yet but most likely something Disney! :rotfl:

Hi Kim! Nice to know I have the option. I think Palo is booked late enough I can still take them to the main dining room that night and as of right now, not going to Remy (although that is still a maybe :rolleyes1) so should be able to bring them. If they become a pain  will definitely ship them to the club, but then again, no, not my kids....of course not! :rolleyes1

Hi Jen!!

I am horrible with names too - so this really helps. We have 75 days to get this down! :yay:

Am all for the idea of a hometown exchange but need to still figure out FE gifts. Keep me posted if it happens and will do my best to come up with some good Texas Beef Jerky, Hot Sauce and a burnt orange something or other :rolleyes1

Hi Jaymepops (Jayme?)! My husband was not the joiner last time which is why he is not coming this time! It did work out though - he got some alone time. Unfortunately Kai did not take to the kids club like Sabrina so he also got a lot of 4 year old time -- didn't help ease the stress! I think we will just be three kids this time around! pirate:

No ranting - love to read it! Please rant all you can, I need the work distraction -- BADLY!!!

Definitely have to make sure we celebrate Alex's birthday! I have a 19 year old nephew with Asperger's so I have seen the challenges they face, especially at school.

Two of my close friend's sons have Asperger's. My kids are used to any kind of different behavior but then, my kids, well, not exactly normal! :rotfl:

Jen, I think there was NOTHING left -- very very sad. We were trying for a tea or brunch, something and no luck. I am still going to try - hoping as a single for brunch I can get in. I do have a reservation for tea thanks to a very special family :cloud9: who I am planning on having adopt me for the cruise. Of course, tea and Palo dinner on same day, that had better be a gym day!!! :scared1:

As for kids, can totally relate. Sabrina had to wear a Boston (full torso) hard brace to school for about 9 months and got teased quite a bit even though it wasn't so obvious under her clothes (you could feel it or see it if she was in certain positions). Now, she is growing up and dealing with acne, stringy hair, etc -- kids can be very mean. She is good about shrugging it off but not his Mama! :)

Ok my friends - off to another day at the job. Struggling these days with work for many reasons but have to keep my eye on the ball --> need the pay check for this cruise!!!

Happy Monday!
Mati

:dance3::dance3:
All checked in, port arrival time of 11:30.

Wanted the St. John's Island Tour but it was sold out. :sad2: Booked the Eco Hike. Logged back in this morning to add passport info. and double check everything and the Island Tour was showing availability. Woohoo, so excited! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Now, on to working on FE stuff. I like the idea of meet and greet with something from your town as well.

-Debbie

Bought some FE presents over the weekend. Now to dig out the stuff I bought last spring to try to make something.... :yay: :yay: :yay:

I'm not too great with names either - and it is nicer to call everyone by their real name too. :cloud9::cool2:. although mine isn't far from my board name it's Elaine, my husband is Bryan and my daughter Hannah.

We'd also be interested in joining a meet and hometown exchange. Can' t wait to meet you all.

Elaine:dance3::flower3:

Yay! Glad to hear some people are interested in the hometown exchange :) I'll bring some paper sheets for the drawing :) I might have some name tags for the meet lying around here too. Like I said before, I don't want to pick a time b/c I don't know when the allears group is doing their stuff. Maybe someone who is doing both can give us a couple of "open" times so that we don't double book people? The next decision is where to meet :confused3 We did ours on the second level of the atrium last time. That way we were right by the stairs for the big picture ;)

Now... I wonder if moonshine would be a good WV gift...

Hi everyone!

We will come to a group meet if one is planned since we (I) have been posting on the thread since last year. I would say meeting on the top deck (with the new ship, I don't know what deck number is for the top deck - so much to learn! :)) is ideal, though other options are fine with us, too. There is plenty of space there, and we can enjoy the gorgeous weather we are sure to have! :) I'd suggest maybe Sunday for a meet? It's a sea day, so that gives everyone time to roam the ship on Saturday, wait for luggage to arrive, make their way to the shows/restaurants/shops/etc. On my last cruise, we had a meet on the first day onboard, which worked out just fine, but I wasn't sure if everyone wanted to commit to that day since it's a new ship that none of us will have explored before.

We're part of the AllEars group, so we want to be careful not to overcommit to group plans with either group; we do, of course, want some downtime for just our family to enjoy Caribbean laziness! We do want to meet you all, so we'll attend the meet if we can! Jen (JRandAJsMom), the AllEars group hasn't posted their schedule yet. My TA wasn't sure when that would happen, but as soon as we're made aware, I can post with that information so we can make final plans about the FBR meet. Sound like a plan?

As for the mini exchange, we won't be participating in that. We're doing the FE exchange, and it would be too much stress (and financial investment) to do the mini swap, too. I hope those of you who participate in that have a grand time!

Jenny :)
