Fantasy 9-night Southern Caribbean + Covid

Agreed, at trivia the first day, the crew member running it commented on how small the number of children was (under 1000) for a summer cruise. I did encounter regularly a teenage boy group I took to calling the "hooligans", but didn't have issues with children otherwise. Compared to past summer cruises on the Fantasy, it definitely felt like there were fewer kids (pools less crowded, AquaDuck lines shorter, etc).
Yes, we called them “the stairway gang”. My kids are about the same age as that group and steered clear of them.

An interesting web site, as it pertains to on-board infections.

Apparently the CDC is still tracking cases on board. This web site scrapes the data and presents it per ship/sailing date.

Very interesting indeed. I noticed a positive spike on the day my son tested positive, night 6, and another 2 days later.

Thanks for sharing that- very interesting, although it's hard to reconcile the very low positivity data for, say, the wish with the reports we have gotten even through the Dis crew. Based on the test numbers, seems like this is not all tests?

I think the DIS crew was specifically talking about the people who had to test for the B2B cruises. I think they said 25% tested positive; however, the number of people doing the B2B could have been fairly small.

There was a specific number, which was ~100 out of 400 back to back cruisers being unable to cruise. In any case, these reported numbers don't appear to be capturing pre-trip tests, so the pattern in the number of reported tests by date seems really weird

Where are the numbers coming from..? Are these folks the ones that are being tested by the medical crew onboard? @soniam did Disney do anything for your son after his positive test? I had heard folks on the Maiden that were unable to board their B2B were isolated at a hotel for 10 days but its hearsay...

My impression is that the numbers are being culled from the CDC. The positive tests are reported by DCL to the CDC. They come from people testing positive on the ship. I don't know if the B2B tests or pre-cruise at port tests are counted.

They gave him some daytime/nighttime cough cold medicine and called everyday to make sure he was OK.

They don't force you to isolate in a hotel but offer it. We had already booked a rental car before the cruise in case this happened. We decided to drive back to Texas. DCL provided us transportation to MCO to pick it up. There were 2 other buses for transporting the infected. I know they provided transportation to hotels for people to isolate. They will cover the cost of our rental car, hotel, gas, and food. I think they were going to cover the costs of the isolation hotel for people too. If someone drove themselves to the port, they were allowed to just drive themselves.

I hadn't heard 100 out of 400. I thought the podcast only said 25%, but I could have misheard. Did you hear that from the podcast or somewhere else? It's possible that they are not including port testing in their numbers. They don't report people who tested positive after getting off our cruise. Of course, DCL doesn't have access to those numbers. There seems to be a decent number of them from our social media group though.

I thought it was the podcast, but it may have been elsewhere, and just lined up with the podcast %-wise.

Looks like the CDC has stopped updating and has removed the dashboard that was used to source the data.

The CDC has apparently removed the dashboard completely. The last update was August 1, 2022.
