Yesterday, DD changed her mind and asked that I request we be seated alone for our upcoming cruise. So, 9 days out, I called the CC # to ask if I could add the request. The DCL CM checked our reservation and we have already been assigned to a 4-top. The CM and I had a nice chat about the odds of being the only two at the table and he shared his personal experiences. The odds appear to be in our favor, but, we'll check the Navigator and stop by the Dining Seating Assignment location upon embarkation. I had thought seating assignments were completed closer to the sail date so I thought I would share in case anyone else had been thinking of making seating requests.

It seems like there is still a lot of availability on our cruise. So, fingers are crossed that it remains the way you want it!

Me too! DD has had 50-60 hour work weeks and she just wants to relax and not talk about work with anyone at all!

We're on the same cruise and had my TA make the same request last week. I figured since we have main seating where there are more kids, we wanted the quiet time.

Good luck to you too! I guess your TA or you can always call to see if you have been assigned to a 4-top. If the CM tells you a 6-top or 8-top then you will know you need to stop by to request a change.

Since thre are no 2 top tables...being assigned to a 4 top is normal....you may not have other guests yet assigned to your table but if you do, just go to dining changes venue and you request will most likely be granted.

Thanks! I knew the CC CM couldn't check to see if others were assigned to our table but he felt very strongly that it was just us two. We will definitely check when we get onboard.

We have been seated at a 2 top on Dream as well as the Magic and the Wonder. So they do exists. There are not many of them, however. There is a good chance that they will seat 2 at a 4 top table.

OK....25+ cruises on DCL and I've never seen a 2 top outside of Palo/REmy. They do set only 2 places at a table intended for 4. This is common if there are only 2 assigned to that table, and we have had this many times. It is actually nice to have the extra room--the tables for 4 seem really small with 4 people seated. They are much nicer with only 2. Not sure if you had a 4 top for the 2 of you or if there really are a few 2 tops.

They only set the number needed for the people assigned to that table; we've also been at a table intended for 8 with 7 places set.

Dining assignments are made about 2 weeks before embarkation, but can be altered easily on embarkation day. Well, "easy" is relative. If there are 2 of you, it is easy; if you are dealing with 18 people, not so much.

I have never seen a 2 top either. That is interesting. I have seen 4 tops with 2 people seated at them. I am going to look next week now!

Never saw a 2 top in 28 DCL cruises.....as mentioned have seen 2 people at a 4 top but non of the small 2 top tables.

Not saying they don't exist (possibly on Dream/Fantasy) but never saw them. Would love a pic if anyone sees them. Curious on the size.

I'll check and report back. The last three cruises DH and I took were on other lines with freestyle/anytime dining and we were always seated at a 2-top next to a window. I'll check the size of the table vs a 4-top.

If you get stuck with talkative table mates and are doing first seating, switch to our table and I promise to ignore you so you guys can be virtually alone :rotfl2:

:rotfl: Sounds like a plan; not awkward at all! :lmao:
We are late seating as we thought there may be less kids and I run on CA time even on vacation. Plus, it would be very difficult not to talk to you because my DH is a die-hard Mets fan! When our daughters were first learning to talk, he taught them "Let's Go, Mets Go!" :)

That's trouble right there. I'm a hard-core Yankee fan ;)

That's the one down-side to doing the main seating, since there are more families at the earlier seating. But Judy cannot eat that late or else she'd never get to sleep.

There are NOT more people at the main seating--DCL keeps them balanced. They do not fill main first and then late--again, they balance it at booking. If you request main and are the next family to go into that slot, you get it. If it is the turn to book someone into late, they will waitlist you for main. Then, at some point, they just cut off the main option and put all new bookings into late, moving one family to main for each late booking made.

There are more kids at main, but not more people or families...until they do the onboard shuffle of trying to put as many as possible of those who board and go to "dining changes" into what they want.

I'm happy to let all of you have main. We request late each time. Yes, it is sometimes later than I'd like, but it is more relaxed for guests and servers, and usually more quiet.

Great to know! :thumbsup2 You always clarify very nicely! DD booked at 60 days out and Main dining was still an option, but, we both agreed on late.

I didn't say more people, I said more families, meaning with kids. Personally, I'd rather have late too, but must keep DW happy.
