Just returned from our first time on the Fantasy. Fun ship, loved the adults only activities, but I was ready to be so WOWED I'd never be able to sail the smaller ships again. Turns out I missed the Wonder, as did a couple of my kids. Hubby loved it, and he who pays, plays where ever he wants :)
We had 3 rooms. Our first verandah, and that WOW I didn't get from the ship itself I did get from my verandah. No more 10A's for me!! for the same price we could either have booked another verandah or the deluxe family ocean view. At first we had two verandah's with DH, me and our 2 daughters in one room, my dad and 2 of our sons in the other.( The 3rd room is another son and his DW.) Then my oldest son decided he wanted to join us again this year, and since Disney no longer has the queen bed that breaks into 2 twins we pretty much only had the option of the Deluxe Family room. I was told when we switched that the would be the queen bed, a murphy bed, the couch that converts to a bed and an upper berth pull down.
Long story short, once onboard that didn't happen. Yes there was a queen and murphy, but no pull down berth. I had my first bad experience with Disney customer service :( It was sad, but you know, I was on the Fantasy, so how sad could it have been, right? Guest Service CM gave me one choice- pay $750 more to upgrade to a room with a pull down. I was told that cat 8D doesn't sleep 5, and I had been given bad info when we booked. I'm a mean mommy and didn't pay. The 16 year old slept on the floor the whole week, which sucked, but again, it sucked on the Fantasy, so he can get over it.
I know there are 2 kinds of people who respond to posts: the kind who are helpful and awesome and the kind who want to poke holes in your post and make you feel bad. For the second kind, I'm sure you're thinking "there were 3 beds, why sleep on the floor?" Queen bed had grandpa, who eats beans, a lot. And snores, a lot. And kicks randomly, a lot. Murphy bed slept the 24 year old 6'1" 230lb son, couch slept 6'1" 18 yr old son. 5'11" inch 16 year old was trumped to the floor. Also, yes we had a 3rd room, with our Son and DIL, who paid for the room themselves and were not sharing.
So, just for my own peace of mind, 8D means only 3 separate beds? How do you know which 8's have 4? I cannot find any concrete info. All DCL websites says is "some have the pull down" "Most have a murphy".
Thanks for any help

The only way to know for sure whether a specific room will sleep 4 (have "space" for 4) is to do a dummy booking for 4 people and see if you can select that room. The website won't let you book 4 people in a 3 person room.

To sleep 4 people in separate beds, you'd have to look for a room that sleeps 5. Queen bed sleeps 2. Sofa, pull down bunk, and murphy each sleep 1.

wow. that is too bad. I am really shocked that DCL didn't just move you, esp. if there was an open room. Those rooms are usually booked up pretty quickly, as they sleep 5, so I'm surprised there was even one left. I would give your 16 yr old a special treat for sleeping on the floor. I have a 15 yr old son, and he gets the floor a lot too b/c of the bed situations. On many family vacations, we even travel with an air mattress for him. he never complains.

I am booked with my mom and step-dad and niece (so not my normal travel party of 3) next April and we are in a 4B or 4D I think and I understand exactly what you mean about the sleeping part. My niece will be 6 so she really needs the sleeper sofa and I personally don't want to be on the top bunk either (but I'd take it if I had to) and my mom/step-dad get the real bed so ideally we wanted a room with the murphy bed. I read and understood the best way was to call and ask DCL and truth be told I choose a specific cabin number that wasn't showing available online (that's another DCL website issue) and wanted to be sure it was technically a room that slept 5 even though there are only 4 of us and I confirmed it had the murphy bed. The c/m stated she had never knew how to look this up before but after I was finished with her she said she was most grateful and she said she learned something new. I'm truly sorry you were given wrong information!

Messing around on the website and putting in 5 people is ideal if you aren't trying to get a specific cabin location that is not showing on the website (like my situation). Usually with my family of 3 I don't have to worry about any of this :)

I'm shocked that in this day and age someone in the IT department can't figure out a way to list the number of beds for the DCL reservation agents to see while they are booking guests. That is basic info that they should have access to.

For the $750, was that an upgrade to higher category cabin or was it just charging an additional $750 for the same category room that sleeps 5?

Thanks every one for staying positive in your help :)
The guest service officer (she was in the white officers uniform) at first said that there were no rooms on the ship that had both the bunk and Murphy. I showed her pictures then she relented and said that those rooms do exist, but not in cat 8d, so if we wanted a room like that we would have to pay to upgrade. There were a few available. I was told she would not simply move us because another cabin might decide to pay to move. Not anyone specific, just another cabin. It was the first time on any vacation I literally felt like a dollar sign, a replaceable dollar sign. I'm the last person to feel "entitled", just the opposite- I'm always surprised and delighted just to be on cruise! Still, this wasn't handled correctly. For the 1st time in 7 years we're not vacationing with Disney next year :(
Btw- this was the infamous broken engine 1/30/16 cruise. I Actully loved the extra sea day, we were moving so slow I didn't take Dramamine the last 2 days!
