I am going to mgm in January and want to see the Fantasmic fireworks show. I was wondering how necessary it is to book a dinner package before the show this time of year?

I have never had a problem getting a seat at Fantasmic. The only time it was super crowded was one of the holiday weekends, maybe labor day weekend... we arrived 5 minutes prior to show time and had to sit on the lawn. All the others time we've had no problem getting a seat, especially in Jan when it's cold and some people won't even do Fatasmic because of this (the theatre is on water). It's up to you, does the price justify the ease of seating to you? I would just suggest showing up 20-25 minutes before the show... if on a weekday. I once showed up an hour early and regreted it, no one came in and half the show was empty ... this was the first week of December. Are there other days in your trip that you can go see Fantasmic or is it a one day thing?

The cost of the meal is a concern. The seats for the dinner package also did not seem that great. I have some PS arranged at Mama Melrose's but I still have tons of time to cancel them. I also was considering going to the 50's Prime Time Cafe for dinner.

As far as restaunts are concerned I can not comment on that because since MGM closes so early most nights we ussually go offsite for dinner (Jungle Jim's, etc). You can find menus at www.wdwig.com for the sit downs in MGM. If price is a concern I wouldn't bother with the package. We have always other than once sat in the center and mid way down without a ressie or having to arrive extremly early. We ussually get snacks or hotdogs and watch the show. There are food carts in the stadium. BTW, you wouldn't want to sit near the bottom in Jan, because you might get sprayed with water if it's windy and it may still be pretty chilly.

We went to Fantasmic about 30 minutes before the show and got seats comparable to the ones you would get with the dinner package. I don't think you will have any problem.

As long as you get there at least 45 mins before showtime, you should be fine :)

I was wondering about these questions, too. We are arriving at DW on the 25th of January and that is the last day for Fantasmic before it closes for the week. They have booked two shows, one at 6:30 and one at 8:00. I'm thinking the 6:30 one would be warmer but more packed than the 8:00 one. We would probably like the 6:30 show so we could get the kids off to bed somewhat early after the long drive south.

Which food places (not necessarily sit down) are close to the Fantasmic show? I've never been there.

We won't be arriving at Disney until probably early afternoon. I was thinking we would eatlunch while we are driving there (so our tummies aren't too full for the rides), and then head off to MGM for a little while until the show. We would grab some supper to take with us into the show and eat it while we are waiting.

Any good eateries right by there?

I think that you'll be fine just getting there approx. 30-45 minutes before and seating should not be a problem.
