With four young children (10, 8, 6, 3), I highly recommend seeing Fantasmic at 9:00pm, and then staying in place to watch the fireworks.
Trying to see the fireworks from Main Street (after seeing the 9:00pm Fantasmic) is a very bad idea. Believe me, I once tried to do it, and I learned the lesson the hard way.
Fantasmic is returning on May 28, after a 5-month hiatus, so it will likely be very crowded. Like HydroGuy mentioned in another thread (
link), you'll want to start looking for a good spot at around 5:00pm. Take a blanket and leave a person there at all times to hold the spot. We did this last summer and it worked out well. I brought back some food from the Stage Door Cafe. We sat front and center, and the CMs closed off the section before it got too crowded. We wandered off a few times -- to ride Pirates (PotC), Haunted Mansion, and use FPs for BTMRR. That could also be a good time to use FPs for Splash Mountain (if you can stay dry).
After the Fantasmic show, we stayed in place and we watched the Magical fireworks, and the view was pretty good.
