Does anyone know if Fantasmic will run in the rain? I have reservations for the dinner package for Sunday, and it is forecasting rain. If the show is cancelled, I would rather cancel my package and eat elsewhere. Any suggestions?

I am pretty sure that if it rains they will cancel the show, especially if thunder and lightening are involved. it is an outdoor show. Florida is always forcasting rain...I would keep the reservation if i were you.

Ditto to this, for SURE.

Never pay attention to a weather forecast.
They are notriously inaccurate.

A forecast for "Orlando" means nothing for the exact area in WDW where you HAPPEN to BE.
(There could be a down-pour at MK and only scattered clouds at MGM.)

There is always a chance for rain.
There is always a CHANCE for rain.
There IS always a CHANCE for rain.
There is ALWAYS a CHANCE for rain.

Meaning, regardless of what the forecast says, the weather can do something else.

Fantasmic! WILL cancel for lightning.
It will NOT automatically cancel for a "forecast" of lightning.
Disney will only make that decision within a VERY short time before scheduled showtime. (People already filling the theater, most times.)

We have been to the Fantasmic! theater and waited for a rain-delay (they held the start of the show for 30 minutes and THEN cancelled!)

And we have been seated in the theater while a shower was dripping on us but, when it stopped, Fantasmic! began.

If you're going to plan something that is OUTSIDE, you must be "flexible".

I will end this post the the profound statement, "NOBODY can predict the weather."

I was told by a CM that they rarely cancel for rain if there is no lightning. They are more likely to cancel for wind, because the wind blows out the fire effects, blows the water effects all over the audience, and makes the firework effects just plain dangerous.

We were there one year when it cancelled twice in one week due to heavy rain. The CMs said it wasn't safe for Mickey to be up on the rocks. It made the other shows very crowded that week.

Not likely, as the show is not really weather "dependent".
And once the fireworks are "loaded" into the mortars, they really need to be FIRED to dispose of them.

There COULD be some really severe weather that would prevent the CMs from even LOADING the show, and that would cancel it for sure.

The same is true of Fantamic!
If the show is cancelled, they still need to dispose of the loaded fireworks.
There is/was a "show" that they created (if the FULL show was cancelled) called "Fantasmic-LIGHT" which was ONLY the fireworks from the show, being fired-off with a musical accompaniment.
I've not been to MGM in inclement weather lately, so I don't know if they still "perform" the "Fantasmic-LIGHT" show when needed... but they DO still have to fire-off the fireworks after a show gets cancelled.

That's right. Once the pyro is loaded it HAS to be fired. One example is Cinderellabration- if the show is canceled in the middle due to rain, you can hear them shooting off the pyro. Wishes always goes off in the rain (except that Tink won't fly). I think the only way that Wishes would be canceled would be due to really bad winds. Once last year they even had to clear out all of Fantasyland because of the winds. And as for Fantasmic, they will do the show in the rain. Once when I was there it was pouring rain for a lot of the day. There were CMs not letting people into the arena. Finally, they did about 30 minutes before the show (which they eventually did show Fantasmic). I would assume that they would cancel for really heavy rain right before the show, thunder and lightning.

All I know is that on one of our trips. We tried to see Fantasmic all week and it kept getting canceled due to weather. We finally saw it once. Great Show!

Back in November, I was at Fantasmic, sitting in the bleachers waiting for the show to start. Then the rain started, and got heavier and heavier. Many people starting quickly leaving the theater but I stayed, drenched. Finally they made the announcement that Fantasmic was cancelled, but then they did the "Fantasmic-Light" mini-show. It was maybe about 3 minutes long, and had music - one song was the April Showers song frm Bambi. They shot off some fireworks, and had the dancing fountains on in colors. I was happy that they showed something - I wished I could videotape the mini-show, but the rain was too torential!

Short of a downpour (which will result in a delay) or lightning, the show will go on. If there's lightning in the area, the show may be delayed or cancelled
