I booked an ADR at Hollywood & Vine for the Fantasmic show but now I'm reading a few posts where parents said the show was too scary for their little kids. I have a 4 year old daughter and 10 year old son. I'm sure he would enjoy the show but I don't want to scare the pants off my little girl! Would it be better to do the character lunch at H&V?

Thanks!!

Is the dragon working on Fantasmic, last time we were there it wasn't

Thanks

My daughter has loved it since she was not quite 1 years old.

If you are worried, let her watch it on youtube first and ask her if she wants to see it. My daughter BEGGED us to do tower of terror and I didn't think she would like it, AND she didn't. She hated it.

But, she wants to do it again next time we go back.

My DD was 4 when we saw fantasmic and she loved it. She still says it was one of her favorite things at Disney.

My kids (3 and 7 on our last trip) don't scare easily.

Fantasmic scared the crap out of both of them. Plus, it's confusing so the whole thing just wasn't a fun experience.

Every kid is different, as this post shows. I didn't expect my kids to be so scared of it, but it is what it is. I didn't like it all that much, so I'm happy that we'll now have that time to do other things while half the park is watching the show!

I've been looking for first-hand experiences too. My niece and nephew will be 3.5 and 2 and are generally scaredy-cats (I mean, afraid of all strangers and just about any noise that startles them). Their parents will be disney first timers and don't seem to want to take my advice on skipping this show (or anything!) they seem like they'll want to stick together with the extended family at ALL times, even though our kids are older and we all have different interests.

Since this show sounds likely to be frightening AND keep them out way past bedtime, im looking for more "evidence" to convince them our Fantasmic! Package at H&V really isn't something they'll want to do with the group!

My 5 year old daughter was not scared at all when we saw it for the first time. We enjoyed it, but have not made an effort to go back. I know some people love it and do it every trip, but it just was not that special for us. I'm glad we did it once.

My 3.5 year old daughter slept through some of it so I don't think it's all that high octane but your mileage may vary. She did ride tower of terror twice and liked it. Although now she doesn't want too because grandma has been making a big deal about how scary it is.

My DD is 5 and before our last trip we watched it on YouTube to see if she would want to go. We didn't make it very far before she told me it was too scary. I have seen it before and remember it being pretty dark and loud in person, so I'm glad she opted out of it because I think it would have upset her.

Our kids were 4 and 9 the first time we saw it and neither was scared. We did let our daughter watch it on YouTube first bc I also had read reviews of parents saying how scary it was. I think a lot has to do with how you react. I don't know about other people's kids, but mine feed off my reactions. We just acted like it was all so amazing and they went along with it. Now they request to see it every time. It's always completely packed when we see it, and I've never seen kids crying or anything. All kids are different though. The video would be a great way to guage how she'll react.

All but the most sensitive kids should like it just fine.

The scariest content is basically

1. a sudden canon blast that happens

2. a video montage of several disney villians laughing ominously

3. Micky mouse briefly faces off against a dragon (he's initially frightened but of course Micky finds his courage and wins)

I'd think most children would find the show thrilling and enjoyable. My son (very sound sensitive kid) was perfectly fine, both at 1 1/2 and at 3 yrs old. Whatever fear of sound he has, the enjoyability and spectacle of the show won out.

My six-year-old cried her eyes out and, covered her face and ears through the whole thing. If we could have left safely, we would have. She's good with thrill rides, but draws the line at "creepy", and there are large parts of Fantasmic that are full-on creepy.

FWIW, nobody else in the family liked it either. The whole show is basically Mickey on a bad acid trip.

My 2 1/2 year old pretty much wanted to climb over us to get the heck out of there during the Malificient part of Fantasmic, but she is perfectly cool with the Malificent float in the FOF parade (she calls it a dinosaur.) She isn't usually spooked easily, she rides Barnstormer, and POTC and Haunted Mansion, but Malificient (the witch) in the Dream along with Mickey show scares her, as does Captian Hook.

FWIW, my husband aren't very fond of the show either. It's personally not worth it for us to keep her up late to see it. I much prefer other evening entertainment at other parks.

OMG, yes! We didn't go to it until our 4th trip, and we all left thinking, "THAT'S what all the fuss is about?" I must be missing that Disney gene because it seems like an overhyped waste of time to me.

Thanks for all the input. I think out time will be better served at the H&V character lunch and just catch some fireworks somewhere else. She's super into the Disney Jr characters so I'm sure we'll all love it.

Now to find something fun for my son! :)

If he's into Star Wars, sign him up for the Jedi Training Academy! It's loads of fun, he gets to duel with Darth Vader, and there's no additional cost associated with it!
