Can someone please clarify for me.

I have been told that if you eat at mama melrose as part of the fantasmic package, even if on the (1 CS, 1TS, 1 Snack) free ddp you are allowed a starter as well?

Also I am sure that someone said you can even have the starter if it says for two?

Can you confirm this please.

Also if they do let you have the starter for two - do they just reduce the portion size down to one person?

Many thanks :goodvibes

The last time we ate at Mama Melrose with the Fantasmic package the DDP included appetizers so I can't tell you for sure. BUT I can tell you that last year we did the Hollywood Brown Derby with the Fantasmic Package and they did offer you an appetizer with that even with DDP. So I can assume that Mama Melrose will be the same?

I think if the appetizer serves two they still count it as one appetizer and they do not cut down the size of the appetizer.

Yes, if you book the F! dinner package at Mama Melrose, you can choose any appetizer on the menu, even if it is listed for two. You will get an appetizer for the package on the DDP or paying out of pocket.

We ordered the calamari, which was for two. It was huge. The server said it was the regular size - all four of us enjoyed plenty of it!

I knew I had read this before...but I can tell you that we just got back from a trip last week and this was NOT the case! We had the Fantasmic! Dinner package and had lunch at Mama Melrose. As stated, this is an appetizer, main course, drink and dessert. When one of our party wanted to order the calamari (which is for two) they were told the only way they could get it was if they split it with somebody else...in other words, unless somebody else wanted the same appetizer we could not get it on the package.

I was pretty shocked but didn't argue so we all (we had a total of 6 adults) ended up splitting two appetizers for two and then getting two more appetizers instead of getting 6 total as expected. It definitely meant compromise and it was kind of unfair as what if we didn't have anybody there who wanted to split?

Just curious if other people have had this happen...and if was resolved differently? Not that we can do anything about it now that we are home.

Of course, to top it all off, Fantasmic! ended up being cancelled that night due to weather! :sad2::sad2:

We already reserved dinner reservations in late Sept. at Mama Melrose using the DDP. Is there a way to convert this to a F! package without having to rebook the dining reservation? Does it cost any extra?

Thanks,
Dan

You cannot convert a regular reservation to a F! package. You will have to start all over and make a new reservation specifically as a F! dining package, then cancel your regular reservation. You will have to give a credit card number as a "no show" guarantee. It costs 1 credit at MM or H&V, but 2 credits at HBD. If paying OOP, it is a set price.

OT - But how is the calamari at MM? I can't decide between that and the field greens salad with pear and blue cheese. Both sound really good.

Feb 2011 - we paid OOP for Fantasmic package and WERE NOT allowed the appetizer for two. October 2010 - on DDP we were NOT allowed the appetizer for two.

I really don't understand why people are upset about the appetizer FOR TWO not being allowed if only ordered by one person. Whether you are paying the F Package with DDP orOOP, you are still in a prix fixe dining situation which only allows 1 appetizer. An appetizer for 2 would therefore be 2 appetizers.

Now if you are not on the F. package, and paying OOP, I'm sure they would be delighted to serve you as many of these as you would care to pay for!

YMMV on that answer.

Previously....we were allowed any appetizer, including those "for 2" for the F! pkg on the DDP. This year we were told those would be considered 2 appetizers. We had 4 "adults" on the plan and the 2 kids weren't going to order any in the first place, so we got 2 regular and 1 "for 2" and my mom and I sampled them all. But this is different than we experienced in the past as well.
I don't believe people are being greedy at all, simply stating it is (was) allowed for some people, but not others. I have no problem with rules either........just tell me what they are and don't change them day by day. :thumbsup2

and I split the calamari and my wife had the field green salad. I liked the calamari. It's not the best I ever had but I would order it again without hesitation. My son, who had never had calamari before, liked it also. I had a bite of my wife's salad and it was one of the better salads I have had recently. I'm a big fan of gorgonzola and I thought it added a lot too the salad. The mozzarella I have gotten in WDW has been wretched so I was really surprised by the gorgonzola.

AGREED! My other issue is just that some appetizers are only offerred as "for two" like the calamari...so if you really want it and you don't want to share it...you can't even get it. It would be nice for them to be able to split the portion size, which would be easy enough for the calamari, to a "for one" version. They are a restaurant after all and most Disney restaurants are known to be some of the best at catering to different tastes, food allergies, etc. so why not portions? I can order a meal and request no sides...why can't I order an appetizer and request a smaller portion? I'm sure there will be others chiming in as to why this is NOT reasonable though. ;) I don't expect to cheat the system...would just like to have more options especially now that the menus have gotten SO much smaller and more limited since the dining plan became so much the "NORM" for people.

As a solo diner I would love if they did that. There are a lot of the "for two" appetizers I would choose if I could, but it's really hit or miss on when it's allowed or not, and even when it is, I cetainly don't need that much food.
