I haven't read recent posts, so I don't know if this is already being discussed, but we have been here since Saturday, and we have caught the second half of Fantasmic three times, and Murphy the Dragon has been MIA each time. Does anyone know what's going on with that?

Murphy malfunctions rather frequently, often for up to a week at a time. The CM playing Maleficent gets to break out his additional choreography in that case!

I'm just really glad that I know his name is Murphy now. I feel like this will be really great insider info for my 5 yo if he is operating when we are there in November.

I heard that the dragon's name is Murphy after "Murphy's Law" - anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Kinda sad but fitting since he is MIA quite a bit.

edit: This is a fan made name, not an official name from Disney

Just a little extra insider info for your 5 year old :)

The dragon sorta fits with Big Thunder, Space Mt, Matterhorn, Indy, etc. Always breaking down. You would think Disney would have some bypass/redundancy system to keep it functioning.

The name "Murphy" is a fan name for him; I was at Disney with some imagineers and they had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned Murphy! But I like it...

The current Plan B is projection on the water screens (not the live action anymore - they do have Malificent growing, but that's always there, she just doesn't remain there anymore even if the dragon isn't working). So, the flames still go up, and it looks like Mickey is battling him.

We were there this week, had River Bell upgraded seating. Scored seats front and center right on the railing. No dragon :( First world problems!

The dragon was dubbed "Murphy" (after said Law) by loving-but-frustrated-fans when she malfunctioned and broke during her big debut on Media Night. A portent, indeed...

I realize he's down a lot, but I've seen him more regularly on other trips. After three tries this past week, I was glad that I hadn't spent any money (or much time) on seeing Fantasmic. I feel bad for people who do, though. The dragon is the highlight of the show, in my opinion.
