We ate dinner at Hollywood and Vine in December and really enjoyed the buffet. Plenty of choice and very tasty :)

Jodie, it really depends on what sort of meal you are looking for I guess.

We had the most fantastic meal at the Hollywood Brown Derby. It is the most expensive ooption though, so if you just want to use it to re-fuel and reserve a space for Fantasmic another option may be better.

The food was cooked and presented to perfection; the flavours, texture and choice of ingredients were just incredible. The restaurant felt like an oasis of calm in the middle of MGM (in fact, you would not have known you were in a theme park restaurant). Our server was very attentive yet friendly and I enjoyed the slightly formal atmosphere (not THAT formal, everyone was in park gear but relatively so LOL)

I have LOTS of photos of our meal, please let me know if you would like me to post some :)

I imagine this would be a nice place for a cosy meal for two, though we had the children with us so it wasn't too romantic for us :teeth: )

It would be great if you could post a couple of pics Karen, My main concern here is it may be a tad 'fancy' for me & DF. We really are plain food people and not keen on lots of sauces etc.

:)

WE did Brown Derby as well, and although the food is very good, I would not say it was all in sauces etc. I had a great filet steak and OH had seared tuna. We also treated it as a nice meal.

mama Melrose gets good reviews. I did H&V one year, and was not that struck on it, the biuffet seemed to have less choice than some others, but have been debating if it is worth trying agian next time.

We did H&V last Oct and it was super. We would eat there again. It was certainly the best buffet we had in Florida and reasonable value too.

The main reason we did this was to be certain of a seat at Fantasmic without worrying about having to get there too early.

As it happened, we didn't need to do this...Fantasmic didn't fill to capacity that day in Oct. Now, I don't know if Oct is always like that, but even 10 minutes before the show there were plenty of seats available all around.

Still, if you're going to eat at MGM anyway, and going to Fantasmic anyway, then book a dinner.

I have eaten at both Hollywood and Vine as well as Mama Melrose's with the Fantasmic dining package. Mama Melrose's is a little bit more expensive, but it is worth it. I prefer it to H&V. I'll be at H&V this year since MM was all booked up when I called for our Fantasmic package. I have never been to Fantasmic without the package, and I don't think I would go if I didn't get the package. Both times we got there about 15-20 minutes before the show and were seated without any problems. I couldn't imagine waiting the length of time that some people will wait without the package. I could go on Tower of Terror one more time than wait in that line. I would have chosen Brown Derby this year, but I am traveling with 6 people and have to keep the spending to a frugal level (for them, not me).

I did H&V at thanksgiving, admittedly there were massive queues and we were very late to our table, but off hand I remember there being lovely grilled salmon steaks, pasta dishes, plenty of roast meats, cold salads and meatballs, meatloaf etc. there were lovely desserts too

We are doing the Fantasmic dinner package for the first time this year and have booked Hollywood & Vine.

If it was just DH and myself we would go for Brown Derby, as we are both foodies and love long leisurely lunches and dinners. However, since we are taking my family this time (ages ranging from 11 to 60) I went with H&V - at least everyone should be able to find something they like from the buffet. :)

Here are some photos Jodie, I did not make notes of exactly what all the meals are so I have tried to describe from memory and the picture, but may not be quite right with some of them :)

.... How much my DDs liked it here...... (lots!)

We went to Hollywood and Vine last time and really enjoyed it. The staff were great. The beef was too rare for my taste and the chef put some on the griddle and incinerated it perfectly for me!

I loved the spoon corn bread (or whatever it is called) I couldn't get enough of it. The mini desserts were fab too, but I was pretty full by then.

We have booked it again for our upcoming trip.

We do like Mama Melrose too. Have never tried Brown Derby.

I think all of the options are great!

depending what 'kind' of vegetarian you are, WDW can be friendly or unfriendly...
however as a rule, you should avoid the family style dinners as they are the most expensive for little bang for your buck....they'll bring you something special for vegetarian but it's usually pretty awful...
stick with either regular serve restaurants or buffets...

regarding the original question, for our fantasmic package we ate at the Brown Derby.....we thought it was great, but that was many years ago so i don't know if that's still true or not...
