Fantasmic dinner package worth it?

We have a 4 yr old and a will-be 6 month old. I'm considering if reserving the dinner package w preferred seating is worth the $. We've never seen fantasmic before so don't know if you need to have seating to really be able to see it.
Is it different from Wishes or Illuminations where you obviously don't need special seating to see well?
If I book it, it really won't be for the food per se, more the seats. (I'm assuming)
but which restaurant would you suggest? Brown Derby,Mama Melrose's or Hollywood and Vine?

With two little ones, I would personally do the dining package. I've never had to wait in a line to get into the theater where as with standby, you need to be lined up at least 45 minutes to one hour early. Probably not something you want to do with the kids. This is what we are doing in December with our DS 5 months.

We've always done Mama Melrose's in the past and their food is pretty good. The only thing they have available in December in Brown Derby and that will be our first time trying that.

The Fantasmic dining package does not guarantee you the best seats in the house. What it does guarantee is that you will have a reserved seat and that you will not have to stand in line for up to an hour before the start of the show. Robo's maps of the amphitheatre show that the F. seats are on the right side, not in the centre section. However there are really no bad seats in the amphithreatre. And a bonus of this location is that it is very close to the exit, so you can hopefully be at or near the head of the crowd as everyone heads to the busses at the end of the performance. You also have the option, once in the theatre, of sitting anywhere else that has vacant seats, if you so choose.

ADRs for the F. package are very hard to get, so I'd just go with whatever you can find. Once you've got something, then you can keep trying for the one you really want. I managed to get lucky and snag a Mama Melrose lunch about a month ago. It tends to book up the fastest. Brown Derby is the most expensive of the 3, but I like the food there. Hollywood and Vine does not have the best reputation for its lunch and dinner buffets.

With 2 little ones, I'd recommend the F. package to avoid the waiting in line.

We love Fantasmic!

Full of Disney characters, music, film clips, elaborate live "movie stunts," and amazing over-the-top special effects, performed right before your eyes.

The show runs nearly 30 minutes and there is somethong new to see the entire time.
-------------------------------------------

No one can predict exactly how large the crowds will be or how early you should go to find a seat for Fantasmic! on any given day.
It has totally to do with the whim of the crowd at DHS on that day, and the general crowd LEVELS.
How much time you wish to "invest" in waiting is a personal decision. We have never done the formal Dinner Package, and have always seen the show (dozens of times).

(Take all of these as "average" numbers, sometimes the crowd will be MUCH greater and the theater can fill up much sooner.)

VERY Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 75-120 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
45-60 minutes before: Good seats
20-40 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests.

Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 50-60 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
40 minutes before: Good seats
25-35 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests. (The crowd of "last-minute" arrivals can be slow to get seated before show-time.)

Off-Season (not busy days):
You should be OK to enter by 10-20 minutes before, but you'll likely be seated to the outer edges, and/or way at the back.

If you do the Fantasmic! Dinner Pkg. you still SHOULD enter by AT LEAST 35 minutes (much "safer" at 45 minutes) before show-time and still be guaranteed "pretty good" seats (not my "first choice" area, but fine), regardless of crowd-levels. Remember, the DP is only valid for the first show of the evening, if there are 2 or more. If you do have DP and you spy some seats outside the DP "reserved" area, you are free to choose to sit anywhere outside that area you like, no problem.

If there are TWO Fantasmic! shows in one evening, the second one will have lower crowd level than the first one. You can arrive a bit later and still find a seat.

Be aware that the second show waiting area will LOOK like the show is "too crowded".
That's because they HOLD the 2nd crowd outside the theater while the CMs CLEAN it after the first crowd has exited.

Then, they will let those waiting together in that big group IN... all at once, and there will be PLENTY of room.

(The theater seats over 7,000 guests.)

When you enter the theater, there will be CMs along the way directing the flow of traffic, but you may (if you are early enough to have a choice) simply choose any open seats in the theater to be your own.
If you want to exit more quickly, choose a seat farther back and to towards audience-right.
If you want to be immersed in the show (and sometimes, immersed in water-mist, if the wind is blowing "in") choose a seat towards the front.

We like to eat our evening meal while waiting for Fantasmic! to start.
You can bring in items from the counter-service places in DHS, or they DO have concession stands at the rear of the theater serving "baseball stadium-type" food and drinks. Yes, even beer, sold strictly ONE-at-a-time, one-only-to-a-person, so a single person can't go and buy beer for other members of a group... all guests wanting to buy a beer must be present in-person at the counter.
We have a hot dog, maybe a pretzel, later some popcorn or cotton candy (Disney Health Food).

Ok, trying to figure out what to do still. Thanks for the replies so far. I have a disability and some days I'm fine, others not so fine. Our kids are little, so the priority for the week we're there will be MK. If I'm feeling up to it we'll do HS or at least a couple hours-there aren't that many attractions there for them anyway, really.
I just don't know if I should book the dinner package-if I'm not well and we skip HS entirely we just threw $ away. You can't cancel this, right?
But if I don't book it and we end up going not sure I'll be able to handle an hour long wait standing in line. (standing is my main limitation)
Can a family member stand in line for your group while say me and the kids wait seated somewhere?

I would book it. You can cancel it but it has to be 48 hours in advance. I would take it easy in the morning and then head to HS in the late afternoon do some exploring, have your meal, and then see Fantasmic. I had never booked it before because I the restaurants we wanted weren't on the plan. And after waiting in line for an hour and then sitting for an hour w/ a toddler wasn't fun. So on our last trip we had 6 kids w/ us. 2-10yo, 2-1yo, & 2-infants. We booked MM FP. OMG first the food was wonderful everyone had a GREAT time there. And then walking into Fantasmic 30 min before the show and having a seat. FABULOUS. This time around it's just my family (3 kids) and we decided to try out H&V. If you want to see fantasmic this is the best way for a family w/ kids!!! Good Luck!
Also you didn't say when you were going. I it's during a peak time definatley do the package!!!!

The dinner package is sold out for the days we're there. And I have some walking/standing limitations so I guess we won't be seeing it this trip. Maybe next time!

Personally, I vote against the package unless you are there at a very busy time. The last 2 times I went to F!, (the most recent being three weeks ago), we walked right in 15 minutes before the show and got a side seat directly in front of one of the water projectors. Plenty good viewing and a fine trade for an hour of my life that I didn't have to wait in line. The problem that I have with the package when you have young children is that they don't seat you in your reserved section 10 minutes before the show. They put you there 45 minutes before the show. That is a long time to sit on uncomfortable benches with restless kids. So you have to balance the value of a "guaranteed seat" on the side that comes with a 45 minute wait on aluminum benches versus a 15 or so minute wait with a non-guaranteed side seat. And that doesn't include the additional wait time in the "holding area" before the show. With the package, that adds more time. If you walk up 15 minutes before the show, there is no additional wait time. Granted, walking up 15-20 minutes before the show isn't going to work the week of Thanksgiving. But in the third week of August when the crowd was big enough to create 75 minute waits at ToT and RnR, it worked like a charm. It's not like it was a "light" day. It was an "8" according to TP.

I would keep checking to see if something opens up. I was able to get a reservation for Mama Melrose's for the date we wanted after checking back each day. Good luck!

Disnay also opened new dates for the dinner packages. We just got ours booked for our trip in less than 3 weeks.

Yes yes yes! Fantasmic is a great show and the dinner package takes a lot of the hassle and anxiety out of attending esp with young children in tow.

Good luck on snagging a reservation!

How much do these dinner packages cost for the Italian rest.? Thanks!
