Fantasmic Dinner Package - is it worth it?

Has anyone done the Fantasmic Dinner Package? My DH and I are going in January and were thinking of doing this. We are on the Dining Plan and trying to decided where to eat, Mama Melrose or Hollywood & Vine. (We do not want to use 2 TS for the Brown Derby.) But, the reviews for both restaurants do not seem to be that good. Should we skip this and eat somewhere else? Any suggestions?

we've eaten at both of those places and have been very happy w/our meals each time...

personally, depending on when you are going and how much you like preshow waiting it's a toss up... we've gone w/the FDP and without... for our shorter trips when we are commando'ing, the half hour to an hour of waiting that the FDP saves is worth it... for longer trips when we're moving at a much more leisurely pace, it's not... of course, the time you take to eat vs. the time you wait could be considered a trade-off for some, but since we eat a lot of TS meals anyway, it wasn't for us...

all that plus, there are not that many other great choices (imo) in MGM anyway, so why not go for the FDP...

We will be on the free DDP and made ADRs for H&V Fantasmic package (for 9/4). I was considering cancelling and eating somewhere else and waiting since I heard you don't really need the Fanatasmic package in Sept. But we decided to go ahead and keep it. There aren't that many great places for us (with the two ) anyway and with the sell out of all these TS it might be safer!!!

During busy times, it's worth it, IMHO, if only to avoid standing in the line at Fantasmics main entrance for 30 min to an hour before the show (thereby letting you do other things). During less busy times...just not worth it.

We really like Mama Melrose. I have done the package three times. We have only dined at Mama Melrose. We are going back again this Jan. Although I don't think we will need the package in Jan, for my DH it offers him peace of mind. We have seen Fantasmic without the package and once we got seats and the other time we had to stand.

If you are traveling with kids, it might be worth it to do the package.

We ate at H&V on 8/18. Meal was great as was our server!! When we exited the BaTB show around 7pm the line was already growing for Fantasmic! We entered by Oscar's around 8:15, got great seats and watched the crowds grow!! The reserved seating also made it possible to make a quick exit. We were back to the WL by 9:50!!
