You get to eat in either hollywood and vine, mama melrose or brown derby and you get a slip which gives you seats in a reserved area for the show. It also saves you queueing for over an hour. Both times iv done it we have gone 20 mins before the show started and walked straight in and sat near the front.
I think they are now doing lunch and dinner packages but dont quote me on that one.
Depending on your dates I would try and book early.I tried from my openeing window (april) and couldnt get in for any of the dates 26th-6th october.
You must call to reserve though and specify that you want to have the fantasmic dinner package, otherwise you won't get the ticket for the show.
From what I've read on the dining board and from when I booked the other day, they only seem to have early times available, the latest time I could get was 3.30 for dinner
If your on the dining plan, the Hollywood Brown Derby takes up 2 of your credit, whereas the others are only 1.
I have done the FDP three times - once at each restaurant. all were good and IMO worth doing as the lines for F! were huge each time.
If doing the DDP I think MM is the best value if paying out of pocket I like HBD as it felt so calm and refined in there .
Little ones would undoubtedly prefer H&V though so its a good selection with something for all types of visitor.
The plus side of eating early is that all the food on the H&V buffet is lovely and fresh as they close after lunch to clean up and start the dinner session (if you can call 3:30 dinner!) with an empty restaurant.
I read many reviews on H&V before I ate there in 2008 as part of the F! package and was dreading it.
On a positive note, we really liked it and thought the food was fine! We ate plenty and our server was really good. We ate again there this May with other people too and they were quite happy with it also. Granted, our server wasn't as good this time, but you can't have everything can you?
Do mention you're on the plan and you'll be given your VIP access pass, which you then follow signs to the arena for. You'll go in the back entrance to the VIP section and should get a seat no problem (we still got there an hour before show time!)
I suppose you could treat it as a late lunch and pick up some snacks and things for while you are waiting for Fantasmic to start (and call that dinner )
One thing to be aware of is that the TIW discount cannot be applied to meals at those DHS restaurants if you take the Fantasmic package but it can be if you just eat there normally.
I had also heard this, so a few weeks ago I called Disney to see if they had any availability for a later reservation (ours was 4:00pm).
I was told that the Fantasmic Dining package was still only available between 3:00pm and 4:55pm (no doubt to fill up that slack period between lunch and dinner). Some people are saying they have booked it earlier/later, but it may be that they have booked one of the three participating restaurants on a Fantasmic day and have assumed they have the package.
